BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ The woman behind the petition demanding James Corden kill his ‘Spill Your Guts’ segment on the “Late Late Show” says she’s facing tons of backlash, including threats to her life. Kim Saira, who started the petition that now has more than 45,000 signatures, says despite tons of support, she’s also been flooded with hate mail, with the angriest critics going so far as to send her death threats. She is asking Corden to help put an end to the hate coming her way. He has already said changes will be made to the segment, where celebs must answer personal questions or eat “disgusting foods,” according to the show’s own description. The criticism is that traditionally Asian foods are mocked, and that’s culturally offensive.
-Yahoo, TMZ
★ Ewan McGregor and Mary Elizabeth Winstead have welcomed their first child together. The “stealth birth” was announced by his daughters Clara and Esther McGregor, who shared photos of the baby boy, named Laurie. McGregor and Winstead never publicly announced the pregnancy — nor have they officially announced the birth, at this point. Baby Laurie is McGregor’s first son. He shares 2 daughters with his ex-wife Eve Mavrakis: 20-year-old Jamyan, and 10-year-old Anouk.
-Yahoo
★ An Irish composer plans to stage an opera about the Harvey Weinstein scandal this fall in Belfast — and wants to take the production to New York, where Weinstein was tried and convicted last year of rape and a forcible sexual act. According to Conor Mitchell, “It’s not a representation of the court case, but a piece of art that responds to [the women’s] statements.” The composer/director says that one of the “big theatrical experiments” is what happens when Weinstein’s self impact statement is sung by the women who are impacted by his behavior.”
-TheWrap
★ “Hellboy” star Ron Perlman will lend his voice to the next “Transformers” movie. The 71-year-old has been tapped to voice ‘Optimus Primal’ in the “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts”. Optimus Primal is the fearless leader of the Maximals and Perlman previously voiced the character in the animated series “Transformers: Power of the Primes”. The film will be set in 1994 and takes place in New York and Machu Pichu, even though the central characters are based in Brooklyn. The film is scheduled for release next year.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Kanye West – His legal team has a lot more work to do if they want to rid the online market of imitation Yeezys. After West’s Yeezy Foam RNNRs took the market by storm, copycats quickly tried to capitalize. While Walmart halted sales on its site after Kanye and Yeezy filed a lawsuit, hundreds of other knockoffs are still available elsewhere.
• Ed Sheeran – He and Kylie Minogue have joined forces on the upcoming song ‘Visiting Hours’. They came to team up after Sheeran jetted to Australia in March to perform at a memorial for his late pal, music executive Michael Gudinski. He joined Minogue on stage for 2 songs, and he also performed ‘Visiting Hours’, which he penned Down Under as a tribute to his friend.
• David Bowie – That painting by him that was purchased for $5 at a North Ontario thrift store sold for $108,000 at auction. The work, entitled D Head XLVI, sold to a private collector for considerably more than the initial auction estimate of $9-$12K.
• Foreigner, REO Speedwagon and Sammy Hagar & The Circle — will perform at CNN’s “The Fourth In America” special on July 4. Also performing: The Beach Boys with John Stamos, Bebe Rexha, Billy Ray Cyrus, Black Eyed Peas, Blues Traveler, Brad Paisley, Chicago, Flo Rida, Kool & the Gang, Nelly, Susanna Hoffs, Tasha Cobbs Leonard, Trisha Yearwood and more.
• Elton John – says that his songs would all be about sex if he was in charge of songwriting. In a new interview, he said that he simply “can’t write lyrics” and when he tries, he usually ends up with crude ditties, “and there’s just not a market for that!”
• Alan Jackson and Mickey Guyton – For the 2nd time this year, they will both take the stage in the name of patriotism. Both performed during the National Memorial Day Concert, and both will also sing at A Capital Fourth, PBS’ annual 4th of July TV special. Vanessa Williams will host.
• Brad Paisley – will be a big part of Discovery Channel’s “Shark Week” this year. Included in the festivities, which begin July 11, will be “Brad Paisley’s Shark Country,” in which he will pair with comedian JB Smoove to decide whether Paisley’s guitar sounds attract or repel sharks.
• The Highwomen – were joined by Brittney Spencer and Madeline Edwards on their newly-released cover of Lady Gaga’s ‘Highway Unicorn (Road to Love)’. It’s one of the songs from Gaga’s “Born This Way: The 10th Anniversary”, a deluxe re-release of her landmark album. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2mwdbwnu

SHOOTING THE BULL

GREYTE NEWS:
A new study not only confirms that stress can turn your hair grey, it found that it might be reversable. A research team from Columbia University say they were surprised to discover that hair color can be restored when stressors are removed. They say this adds to a growing body of data showing that human aging is not a linear, fixed biological process, and it may be possible to at least partly halt or temporarily reverse it. Most people notice their first grey hairs in their 30s or late 20s, and it seems this period is when the process is the most reversible. Those who already have a full head of grey hair are likely be out of luck no matter how much psychological stress they reduce in their lives. The scientists say their research could provide new insights on how human aging is influenced by stress.
(Quick! Get the kids out of the basement before it’s too late!)
(Well, that explains why hot Mrs. Lipnicky down the street turned blonde the minute she kicked her husband out!)
(Vicious circle. 90% of my stress is CAUSED by my grey hair!)

BARBECUED RESTAURANTS:
The record-breaking temperatures in the Canadian West and US Northwest have definitely made things hazardous for those working outdoors. But what about indoor workers…in places that don’t have air conditioning? The heat forced many schools and businesses in BC, Washington and Oregon to close to protect workers and guests, including places like outdoor pools and ice cream shops where people seek relief from the heat. Seattle even had to close an INDOOR pool after the air became too hot. And many restaurants have been forced to close up shop for a few days as temperatures rose to unprecedented levels. Covid-19 testing sites and mobile vaccination units were out of service as well. While for air-conditioned operations, it was business as usual, many homes and businesses on the west coast don’t have that luxury, owing to its usually moderate climate. Canada has recorded its all-time heat record, with Lytton, BC seeing a high of 47.5° C (117.5°F) on Monday, and, as one meteorologist pointed out: “It is only June. Annual highest temperature is normally in late July!”
(You know the saying: “If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen”. So, the cooks did exactly that!)
(I’m guessing no one there these days is complaining that their food is “cold”?)
(And yes, there have already been several videos posted of people frying an egg on the sidewalk, so don’t bother…)

HOW MUCH SLEEP YOU NEED, BASED ON AGE:
(according to the Sleep Foundation…)
Getting a good night’s sleep can help you do well in school, at work and in sports. Sleep can also help with quickness and memory, which can help you with things like singing or playing a musical instrument.
0-3 months:  15-17 hours
4-11 months:  12-15 hours
1-2 years:  11-14 hours
2-5 years:  10-13 hours
6-13 years:  9-11 hours
14-17 years:  8-10 hours
18-64 years:  7-9 hours
over 64 years:  7-8 hours
(So it turns out that not only do I have the BODY of a 13-year-old, I also have the BRAIN of one!)

HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU CHANGE IT?
⇒ Sheets:  You shed 500 million cells daily. Your bed is also subject to sweat, pollen, pet dander, fungi and mold. Bedding should be washed at least once every 2 weeks, more often if you sweat a lot at night, or if you’ve been sick. (I’m going to be sick NOW!)
⇒ Pillow:  It absorbs body oil, dead skin cells and hair. Wash it every 6 months and add a protective case between the pillow and cover. But it should still be replaced every 1-2 years.
⇒ Toothbrush (or the brush head on your electric toothbrush):  Should be replaced every 3-4 months, sooner if the bristles look worn out. (or if you share it with someone…)
⇒ Kitchen sponge:  Every week (!!) Bacteria that can cause foodborne disease stay on dish sponges and scrubbers even if they’ve been cleaned in the microwave or in boiling water. (In our house, we call our teenager the “Kitchen Sponge”!)
⇒ Towel:  You should wash or switch your bath towel at least once a week. Dish towels – pretty much after every use.
⇒ Makeup brush:  You should be buying new ones about every 3 months to replace worn-out ones. Signs it’s time to replace them include lost bristles, discoloration or unusual smells. (Or the cat has knocked it to an unreachable spot under the vanity!)
⇒ Reusable water bottle:  To know when to replace it, look out for any foul smells you just can’t get rid of despite washing, a buildup of gunk around the mouthpiece or lid, or cracks in the plastic.
⇒ Yoga mat:  Good news! You don’t necessarily have to replace it regularly — cleaning it properly will do just fine. Cleaning it after every use by wiping it down with a disinfectant is your best bet for proper hygiene. (Or do what my wife does…spill wine on it!)

DID YOU KNOW?
The pandemic has normalized working from home, and many people would like to see it stick. A poll has found that 4 in 5 Canadians don’t want to go back to their pre-pandemic schedule, with 35%, who are still working from home also saying they’d quit their job if their employer forced them to work on-site. The poll, by market researcher Leger in collaboration with the Association for Canadian Studies, also found that 82% of Canadians give their working-at-home experience a positive review, and 40% say they’d prefer a mix of days at home and in the office. (Working from home also gives you a bit of free time to participate in polls and stuff, apparently…)

• “National Organization For Women Day”, marking the date in 1966 that ‘NOW’ was founded in Washington DC by delegates at the National Conference of State Commissions on the Status of Women.
• “National OOTD Day, short for “National Outfit of the Day Day”, it’s all about self-love and personal style. Today, you’re encouraged to develop your own personal style and celebrate what makes you feel good about yourself. (For [***Co-host***], this could also be called “National Whatever Outfit is on Top in His Dresser Day”!)
• “Parchment Day”, parchment paper may first have been made from animals and used for writing, but for the past few centuries, it has also been made from plant-derived cellulose and used for cooking, going by names such as culinary parchment, kitchen parchment, baking paper, and bakery paper.

✓ The only joint in the human body that can rotate 360 degrees is the shoulder.
✓ Caffeine affects men more strongly than women, and women metabolize it about 25% faster.

BS CANADIAN SLANG TERMS THAT CONFUSE OTHERS:
☞ Caesar – It’s not a salad. It’s a drink similar to the Bloody Mary, but better because it includes Clamato juice (rather than tomato juice), along with vodka, horseradish, Worcestershire and celery salt.
☞ KD – It’s short for Kraft dinner, the classic Mac & Cheese in a box.
☞ Hydro bill – Where others call it their “electric bill”, Canadians pay hydro bills. It comes from where many Canadians’ power is created, hydroelectric generators.
☞ Toboggan – While most countries with snow go “sledding”, Canadians prefer “tobogganing”.
☞ Serviette — Why use a napkin when you can use something as fancy-sounding as a serviette?
☞ Pencil crayons – A distinctly Canadian term for colored pencils.
☞ Eavestroughs — Sounds a lot more extravagant than rain gutters, eh?
☞ Chocolate bar — Others call it a candy bar, but when you get right down to it, what is it made of…candy or chocolate?
☞ Stag — A bachelor party. The female equivalent: stagette.
☞ Humidex — The measurement used to gauge the combined effect of heat and humidity. (None of this “real feel” business for Canadians…)
☞ Gitch or Gotch — A very classy term for men’s underwear.
☞ Dinged — In the U.S., cars get dinged. In Canada, it’s our wallets, as in, “I got dinged 110 bucks for that speeding ticket.”
☞ Housecoat — The item of clothing that others refer to as a “bathrobe” or (if they’re classy) a “dressing gown” is known to Canadians by its true name: the “housecoat”.
☞ Gong show:  To most, “Gong Show” is an intentionally awful TV talent show. For Canadians, the term “gong show” (sometimes shortened to “gonger”) is slang for anything that goes off the rails, a wild, crazy or just plain chaotic event. (Used in reference to politics more often than it should need to be!)

TODAY’S SCOOP OF BS:
➠ That record-breaking heatwave has hit California. (It’s been so hot, smug celebrities are so busy buying $5,000 Versace swimsuits, they barely have time to tell the rest of the country what to think!)
➠ According to a study, people who watch “CSI” and “Law & Order” are more likely to help crime victims in real life. (Unfortunately, they never run into any crime victims because they’re on the freakin’ couch watching TV all the time…)
➠ A picture of an egg has surpassed a Kendall Jenner post, and is now the most-liked Instagram photo ever. (…Particularly among terrorists looking for a reminder of why they hate us)
➠ A bank accidentally deposited $50 billion into a Louisiana woman’s checking account. She stated, “I’ve never seen that many zeros”. (In fact, the last time anyone from Louisiana saw that many zeros, they were at a family reunion.)
➠ According to a poll, about half of women under 25 would rather have bigger breasts than a higher IQ. (Well duh, I mean they want to get ahead in the workplace, right?)
