Don’t Take Any Sheet, Unless It’s Pure Bull!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ British actor Dominic Cooper (“Mamma Mia!”) has been cast as ‘Rev Jesse Custer’ in the upcoming TV series adaptation of the controversial comic book “Preacher”. Based on Garth Ennis & Steve Dillon’s violent but darkly funny 1990s Vertigo comic, the story revolves around a no-nonsense Texas preacher who embarks on a mission to track ‘God’ down and hold him accountable for abandoning mankind. Also in the cast: Elizabeth Perkins (“Weeds”);  Lucy Griffiths (“True Blood”); and Ruth Negga (“Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD”). Executive producer Seth Rogen says filming should start soon. The pilot is expected to premiere sometime in 2016.

★ Acting couple Emma Stone & Andrew Garfield are apparently kaput. They were said to be taking a break from their 3-year relationship earlier this month but an insider now says the 26-year-old “Birdman” actress has quit for good and moved back to LA. One reason for the split is said to be the 31-year-old actor being ‘in a dark place’ for months getting into his role as a 17th century Jesuit in “Silence”, which began shooting in Taiwan this January. He lost 40 lbs (18 kg) to play the part. Another source notes that this time last year they were privately discussing marriage, but it didn’t happen because they’re both slaves to their schedules.

★ And “Girls” creator/actress Lena Dunham, who recently began filming Season 5 of HBO’s Golden Globe-winning series, has suggested the show’s 6th season could be its last. While she waits to learn if the show will be renewed again, she’s already making plans to end it on a high note as she doesn’t want to push the show past its due date. Dunham also says she can imagine reuniting the cast for a reboot … in a couple of decades. Quote: “I have fantasies of us all coming back when we’re 40. We’d want to wait long enough for something to have really gone down.”

• Reba McEntire – The country veteran has come out squarely in favor of gay rights, including gay marriage. In a story on the gay issue website Pride Source, she says equality and same sex marriage are ‘very important’. Reba has enjoyed support from the LGBT community in past.
• St Vincent – She’s apparently split with rumored girlfriend Cara Delevingne after dating since February. The 32-year-old singer (real name Annie Clark) is said to have ended things with the 22-year-old Brit model due to their busy schedules. Cara split from actress Michelle Rodriguez last May after 4 months.

COMING ATTRACTIONS:
A BS selection of movies in the making …
• “Beauty & The Beast” – Ewan McGregor is in negotiations to play the role of ‘Lumiere’ in Disney’s upcoming live-action adaptation, meaning he could have one of the movie’s most memorable songs if “Be Our Guest” returns from the 1991 animated film. The cast already includes Emma Watson & Luke Evans. Filming begins in May; the film’s due in 2017.
• “The Big Short” – Marisa Tomei has just joined Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling, and Steve Carell in director Adam McKay’s Wall Street drama now shooting in New Orleans LA. It’s an adaptation of Michael Lewis’ best-seller “The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine”. Brad Pitt, who is producing the pic, is also appearing onscreen in a supporting role.
• “The Other Half” – “Orphan Black” star Tatiana Maslany & real-life boyfriend, “Downton Abbey” actor Tom Cullen, have been cast in writer-director Joey Klein’s debut feature. The story centers on a bipolar woman who falls in love with a grief-stricken man, with whom she struggles to forge a simple life. The Canadian indie film begins shooting in Toronto ON this July.
• “Rogue One” – More details have been revealed about the upcoming “Star Wars” spin-off movie, which will star actress Felicity Jones (“The Theory of Everything”). The film, set between the events of “Revenge Of the Sith” and “A New Hope”, centers around a band of resistance fighters on a daring mission to steal ‘Death Star’ plans. It’s due for release December 16, 2016.
• “Target Churchill” – 74-year-old Michael Gambon (‘Dumbledore’ in “Harry Potter” films) has landed the role of Britain’s legendary WW2 prime minister. The film follows a fictionalized plot whereby Soviet leader Joseph Stalin attempts to have Winston Churchill assassinated before he can make his famous ‘Iron Curtain’ speech in 1946. The project is still in development.

HYBRID SCHMYBRID:
Owners of gas-electric hybrids and battery electric vehicles are becoming less likely to trade for another one, according to new data from auto research site Edmunds.com. Even more surprising … they are increasingly opting to shift to SUVs. The disenchantment with clean-air fuel savers appears to be the result mainly of relatively low fuel prices, though there also seems to be a decline in the vehicles being seen as ‘special’. In other words, they no longer have snob appeal as being cutting edge. To avoid a backlog, GM recently cut the prices of its Spark EV and Cadillac ELR, and temporarily halted production of its Chevrolet Volt plug-in car. 22% of people who’ve traded in their hybrids and EVs so far this year have bought new SUVs. That’s close to double the rate of 3 years ago. (When Gulf War 3 hits, you’ll be sorry!)

MORE HEALTH MYTHS YOUR MOM TOLD YOU, FACT-CHECKED:
• “It’s unhealthy to eat standing up.” – Mostly false. Some studies have shown it may cause you to eat more than when sitting, but it causes no greater risk for indigestion or other issues.
• “Reading in dim light will ruin your eyes.” – False. Your eyesight can worsen over time due to a wide variety of factors, but reading in low lighting isn’t one of them.
• “If you go outside without a coat, you’ll catch a cold.” – Mostly false. Colds and pneumonia come from viruses, not a strong breeze. However, some research has suggested that getting chilled may make us more vulnerable if we already have a virus in our system.
• “You lose 75% of your body heat through your head!” – False. The reality is that we only lose 7-to-10% of body heat through our heads. Bare hands also feel cold … not to mention bare feet.
• “Wait an hour after eating to swim, or you’ll cramp up.” – False. In fact, the exact opposite is true. In order to swim, you need energy. So how else are you going to get it?

BS AMAZING FOOD FACTS:
• Croissants are not from Paris. They’re not even from France. They came originally from Vienna, Austria.
• Oreo cookies are actually a rip-off of Hydrox cookies which came first (1908). Unfortunately for Hydrox, people eventually began to think that Oreos (1912) were the original.
