NET: http://www.thebamboozle.com
• Beale Street Music Festival (Memphis TN) – The 35th annual weekend bash includes shows by BoB, Cee Lo Green, Ke$ha, Mumford & Sons, and Stone Temple Pilots. It’s part of the month-long “Memphis in May” celebration, which includes the ‘World BBQ Championship’.
• “New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival” (LA) – The first of a 2-weekend event. Performers include Jamey Johnson, Kid Rock, Jimmy Buffett, John Mellencamp, Willie Nelson.
• Rock & Rebuild Concert (Sydney, Australia) – Sunday “Live Aid” organizer Bob Geldof stages a benefit show to aid victims of the Australian floods, the New Zealand earthquake, and the earthquake/tsunami in Japan.
• Stagecoach Country Music Festival begins (Indio CA) – Saturday-Sunday the 5th annual includes performances by Carrie Underwood, Darius Rucker, Easton Corbin, Josh Turner, Kenny Chesney, Rascal Flatts, and oodles more. Kris Kristofferson replaces legendary country queen Loretta Lynn, who’s recuperating from recent knee surgery.

BS MUSIC NOTES:

• Joe Nichols – Tonight he kicks off his “The Shape I’m In” tour in Toowoomba, Australia. It’s his 3rd tour Down Under.
• Keith Urban – Saturday he & John Mayer perform at the annual Tiger Woods Foundation fund-raiser in Las Vegas. Over 13 years, the event’s raised over $12 million for educational charities.
• Miley Cyrus – After nearly 2-year break from touring, she kicks off an international tour tonight in Quito, Ecuador followed by a show in Lima, Peru Sunday.
• Spice Girls – 35-year-old Mel B is set to become a judge on the Australian version of Simon Cowell’s “X Factor” singing competition. Production begins just weeks after she’s due to give birth in June.

TODAY’S MOVIE OPENINGS:

• “Fast Five”: The 5th film in the “Fast & The Furious” franchise introduces Dwayne Johnson as a federal agent hunting street-racing speedsters Vin Diesel and Paul Walker.
• “Prom”: Teenagers at a crossroad during a climatic high school dance.

THE GRANDPARENT GAP:

Harvard University psychiatrist Robert Coles says grandparents are having less and less
interaction with their families. Many are reduced to nothing more than ‘holiday visitors’, Coles claims, and are not getting the opportunity to pass on their wisdom or make a difference in their grandchildren’s lives. (C’mon people, who’s gonna spoil the crap out of your offspring to make them unlivable for a month afterward?)

THE SECRET OF SLEEP:

If you have trouble sleeping, you should never read, eat, work, surf the ‘net, or watch TV in bed. It’s all a matter of association, according to Medical College of Virginia researchers. They contend that bedtime should be associated only with sleep. (After 20 years of marriage, that’s about all it brings to mind!)
– AP

POWERLESS LUNCH:

The old school ‘power lunch’ is dead. According to a recent poll, most working people wolf down lunch in a quarter-hour or less. Researchers have found that 56% actually bolt their food in LESS than 15 minutes. 42% eat lunch at their desks or on their go. (It’s no accident the French are happier and more stress-free than most. To be deemed worthwhile, lunch lasts as long as 2 hours in France, every morsel and moment savored.)
– “Working Woman”

BS AMAZING FACTS ABOUT PRINCE WILLS & KATE MIDDLETON:
A few things you likely didn’t know about today’s royal wedding couple …

• Royal acquaintances who aren’t attending are calling themselves ‘NFIs’ (Not Flippin’ Invited).
• 6 of William & Kate’s exes are invited to the wedding: 4 of his, 2 of hers.
• Hard to believe, but by all accounts there is no prenup agreement.
• William’s nickname for Kate is ‘Babykins’; she calls him ‘Big Willy’.

• “Adult Public Skipping Day”, a day for adults to skip in public to feel like a child again. Hopscotch, anyone?
• “Hairball Awareness Day”. Any cat owner who’s ever stepped on a fresh wet one is already well aware! The usual cat hairball isn’t round but tubular, approximately 1 cm (half-inch) in diameter and about 4 cm (1.5 in) long. Too much information?

• “International Dance Day”, introduced in 1982 by UNESCO to increase awareness of the importance of dance in societies, as well as to persuade governments worldwide to provide a proper place for dance in all systems of education, from primary to higher.
• “Zipper Day” celebrating the 1913 date when Swedish-American inventor Gideon Sundback, who developed the manufacturing machine for zippers, patented the ‘Separable Fastener’ which became the 1st all-purpose zipper. In 1937 the zipper replaced buttons as the ‘fly’ in most trousers.

SATURDAY –
• “Canada Revenue Agency Tax Filing Deadline”. Tonight at midnight is the deadline for filing your 2010 income tax return either electronically or via snail mail.
• “Hairstylist Appreciation Day”, honoring the great contribution snippers and coiffeurs make to our self-esteem. Back in 1994, salon owner Anne Camilleri of San Carlos CA came up with the idea to recognize her employees. So don’t forget to say ‘thanks for the good hair day!’
• “Honesty Day”, to celebrate those who are honorable in all their dealings. Observed annually on the anniversary of George Washington being inaugurated as first US president in 1789.
• “Sense of Smell Day”, the 18th annual sponsored by the Sense of Smell Institute on the last Saturday of April at children’s museums and science centers to focus on the important role the ability to smell has in our daily lives. What’s the absolute best smell? And worst?
• “Spank Out Day”, focusing on alternative methods of disciplining children other than corporal punishment.
• “Walpurgis Night” In many parts of Northern Europe where, according to legend, witches ride on broomsticks to revel with the devil. The tradition is celebrated by university students in particular. In Sweden it’s known as the “Feast of Valborg”; in Switzerland it’s called simply “May Day Eve”.
• “World Tai Chi Day”, celebrated annually on the last Saturday of April to create awareness for the slow-motion martial art that’s now touted as a great way to relieve stress.

SUNDAY –
• “Couple Appreciation Day”, a day to tell a duo how cool you think they are together. Something to do with encouraging a marriage.
• “Homebrew Day”, a celebration of the joys of making beer in the basement that began in 1988.
NET: http://www.beertown.org/events/bigbrew/index.html
• “Lei Day”, the 83rd annual in Hawaii. Observed since 1928, it’s when people give one another the gift of a kiss and a lei. Hey, you gotta like that!
• “May Day”, officially observed in some 66 countries. The tradition of rallying ‘round the Maypole began in ancient times. An old legend says freckles will disappear if washed with morning dew on this day. Another piece of folklore says that if you look into a well on “May Day”, an image of your future mate will appear. (Uh, aren’t you going to see your own ugly mug?)
• “Mother Goose Day”, which actually honors many different writers. The term was first used in the title of the nursery rhyme collection “Mother Goose’s Melody” about 1765. Nursery rhymes have been attributed to ‘Mother Goose’ ever since. What’s the most violent nursery rhyme?
NET: http://www.librarysupport.net/mothergoosesociety/tips.html
• “UNmothers Day”, an annual event a week before “Mothers Day” to honor women who’ve consciously chosen not to be mothers. It’s also “Single Mother’s Day”, celebrating those who do the work of 2 parents all by themselves, as well as “Stepmothers Day”.
• “World Laughter Day”, initiated on the 1st Sunday of May by practitioners of ‘laughter yoga’. The movement begun by Indian physician Madan Kataria in 1995 now has over 6,000 clubs in 65 countries. The idea is that 20 minutes of laughter per day promotes overall wellness.
