BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ With COVID-19 shuttering film fests worldwide, YouTube has stepped in to launch a 10-day digital film festival this spring with 20 partners — and it will stream free to cinema fans everywhere. “We Are One: A Global Film Festival” will feature programming from 20 top film festivals including Cannes, The Toronto International Film Festival, Sundance, Berlin, Tribeca and Venice Film Festivals. The online event is set to run from May 29-June 7 on YouTube.

★ Despite the coronavirus pandemic, NBC will have some new programming to air this summer. The network has announced that “America’s Got Talent” and “World of Dance” will premiere their new seasons in May. It is not clear how “America’s Got Talent” will handle the live shows that come later in the season, but both series will premiere on May 26. Sofia Vergara will make her debut on the “AGT” judging panel, joining Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel and host Terry Crews.

★ Original cast members from the hit ’90s show “Melrose Place” reunited for Tuesday’s “Stars In the House” YouTube series. The cast reminisced on their time filming the series, which aired on Fox for seven seasons from 1992 until 1999. The reunion supported The Actors Fund’s relief efforts for the novel coronavirus pandemic. Viewers were able to donate while they watched, as well as ask questions and interact with the cast in real time.

★ Paris Hilton says she has trademarked a new word — “sliving”. It’s apparently the new, “That’s hot”. According to her, sliving is a combination of ‘slaying’ and ‘living your best life’ in one word. Hilton, who has already registered her ”That’s hot” catchphrase as a trademark, has admitted she actually stole the phrase from her sister Nicky.
-ContactMusic
★ “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” will begin streaming on Disney+ on May the 4th. Makes sense. The conclusion of the Skywalker saga will premiere on Disney+ two months earlier than scheduled in order to celebrate the date that is affectionately known by fans around the world as “Star Wars Day” due to the similarity with the saying from the sci-fi franchise ”May The Force be with you”.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Daft Punk – are working on the soundtrack to a film by legendary Italian director Dario Argento. Argenrto says that the duo called to say they were fans of his work and wanted to contribute to the movie. “Occhiali Neri” is the first film score Daft Punk have worked on since 2010’s “Tron: Legacy”.
• BTS — Not only are they working on a new album, Suga is also joining forces with IU to collaborate on her forthcoming comeback single ‘Eight”, expected on May 6.
• Post Malone – His makeshift virtual Nirvana tribute concert on Friday raised $4.3 million and counting for the United Nations Foundation’s Covid-19 Solitary Response Fund for The World Health Organization. Fans can still donate on the YouTube page of the performance.
• Poison — A decision about the fate of their scheduled “Stadium Tour” this summer with Mötley Crüe and Def Leppard has not yet been made, according to singer Bret Michaels. According to him, it’s a decision that all the bands must make together, because “health is number one.”
• Grimes – says she once looked into having surgery to change her eye color. A year ago, the Canadian singer-songwriter, who’s expecting her first child with SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, claimed she surgically removed the color blue from her vision to help her cope with seasonal depression.
• Chris Young – teamed up with Cracker Barrel restaurants to help give back to medical staff. Her performed an at-home concert on Sunday and shared that Cracker Barrel is donating 5,000 meals to professionals on the frontlines in the fight against COVID-19.
• Shania Twain – was among the stars participating in a six-hour telethon Monday. The “Mondays Dark” live event raised money to assist entertainers who have been struggling to obtain employment due to COVID-19. Olivia-Newton-John, Deana Martin, Joey Fatone, Debbie Gibson and Blue Man Group also made appearances.

MATERIAL WORLD:

Wearing a mask can be an important part of the strategy to stop the spread coronavirus. We think. And these days, with surgical and N-92 masks being kept for medical personnel, many are buying or making cloth masks. The people at Smart Air have released the results of their research on DIY facemasks after testing over 30 different materials – including bra pads, coffee filters, pillow cases, electrostatic cloths, cotton T-shirts, wool, polyester, bandanas and more ― for their effectiveness in filtering coronavirus-sized microparticles, as well as their breathability. What is the best material to make your facemask out of? Denim, canvas, bed sheets, paper towels and shop towels all finished in the top 5. And by the way, it is no longer recommended to make your mask out of coffee filters because while they were found to be very effective at filtering microparticles, they scored poorly on the breathability scale. Scarves scored low in their ability to capture tiny particles.
(I guess if you’re making your mask out of paper towel, there’s no fear of you trying to use it twice!)
(Now, what about a Lone Ranger mask? Asking for a friend.)
(And to the guy who I saw wearing a mask BELOW his nose – exactly how do you think that’s going to help you?

PURR-PLEXED ABOUT PETS:
If you think your dog or cat is acting weirder than usual during the coronavirus pandemic, you just might be right. As the quarantine period advised by public health experts stretches to nearly two months for some, pet owners are reporting that their furry companions are leaving old habits in the dust. Some pets are growing clingy. Others are pouncing on exercise equipment, gliding across countertops, or hiding in corners and shooting their owners concerned stares. A Florida woman says her cat has started running into walls and bouncing off them. A man in Italy who usually spends a lot of time traveling says that the family dog spends much of the day on the couch giving him suspicious looks. Why the strange behavior? It could be the sudden spike in foot traffic outside their homes as people walk their pets more is raising their alarms – or it could just be that with people home more, they’re finally noticing strange tics in their pets’ behavior that always existed. Or, pets may be internalizing some of the anxious signals that their owners are sending out in these uncertain times.
(If you think it’s bad now, wait until you see what they get up to once they’re alone all day again!)
(It’s not like I didn’t already know that my cat was insane!)
(My dog’s just glad that someone is home all day. And that there is food going around at lunchtime now, too!)

TRASHY PHOTOS:
The weekly excursion to the curb to take out the trash isn’t usually something that people look forward to – but like many things, the pandemic has changed that. Social media users around the world have helped make garbage day an unexpected source of entertainment. A group of Australians created the “Bin Isolation Outing” Facebook group – a page for people to post pics of themselves getting all dressed up to – you guessed it – take out the trash. Danielle Askew was inspired to create the page after a conversation with a friend about how now she is excited to take the garbage to the curb because it is her only chance to go outside these days. She and her friends made a pact to dress up for the occasion and post pictures. Within weeks, the page grew to include more than a million members around the world, posting shots of themselves on garbage day, dressed in formal wear, Halloween costumes, superhero outfits, or whatever other outrageous idea they’ve been able to come up with.

SPRING CLEANING MYTHS:
➢ If it Smells Clean, it is Clean:  Sometimes a fragrance can mask a problem. Check to see if it feels clean. If it still feels dirty or has residue, it may need more cleaning.
➢ You Should Wash Everything in Cold Water:  While it’s true that washing laundry in cold water can save on energy bills, sometimes hot water is better for things like bedding and towels, to kill bacteria and mold.
➢ Gutters Only Need Cleaning in the Fall:  No matter what the season, clogged gutters can lead to damage since they cannot drain properly – and debris can build up quickly. (Especially if things froze up before you got to it last fall!)
➢ Bleach is a Great Cleaner:  It will certainly kill bacteria and remove some stains, but it should be used as a disinfectant, not a cleaner. To get rid of residue, you’ll need a cleaning product. (And just as a reminder, to get rid of COVID-19, we’ll need a vaccine!)
➢ Use Newspaper for Cleaning Windows:  It’s true that they won’t leave any lint on windows, but they can leave smeared ink. Instead, use a squeegee and microfiber cloth. (I have about the same chance of finding a microfiber cloth at my house as I do of finding a newspaper!)

DID YOU KNOW?

Research from the University of California shows that playing “Tetris” has a remarkable effect on a person’s mental health and performance. During times of immense stress, such as undergoing final exams and considering future careers, students were instructed to play the video game before measuring their relative levels of perceived anxiety. Overworked individuals often experienced a significant reduction in stress and anxiety and an influx in positive emotions after playing Tetris.
