Here’s More Bull Roar!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Forget Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp autographs — how about an official Super Bowl 56 ball signed by the big game’s halftime performers? A pigskin that Eminem, Dr. Dre, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar and Anderson .Paak all autographed after their epic show at the event in L.A. has just hit the block at Heritage Auctions. And according to experts, it could go for a bargain basement price of around $1,500. In addition to signatures from the 5 big-name artists in bold, black ink, the ball features the Super Bowl LVI logo and other Wilson markings, and comes with letters of authenticity. Bidding closes in mid-May.

★ Johnny Depp’s defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard is in full swing, but buried in reports about his inflammatory texts and accusations of physical and mental abuse was his admission that we’ll probably never see Depp play ‘Jack Sparrow’ again. During a cross-examination, Heard’s attorney, Ben Rottenborn, questioned if he’d ever return to his biggest role, asking: “if Disney came to you with $300 million and a million alpacas, nothing on this earth would get you to go back and work with Disney on a Pirates of the Caribbean film? Correct?” Depp’s reply: “That is true, Mr. Rottenborn.”
-Uproxx
★ In his new comedy “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent”, Nicolas Cage plays a fictionalized version of himself who’s always seeking the next role to put himself back on the map. As a result, he’s not the most attentive dad to his daughter (played by Lily Sheen). But in an interview with People, Cage said that in real life, he has always put his work second to family matters. Quote: “I turned down (roles in) “Lord of the Rings” and I turned down “Matrix” because I didn’t want to go to New Zealand or Australia for 3 years because I needed to be home with my son Weston, that’s a fact.” His point? “There is a huge disparity between that Nick Cage in Massive Talent and the Nick Cage sitting in front of you.” Cage’s son Weston is now 31, and he’s also dad to 16-year-old son Kal-El – and he and wife Riko Shibata are expecting a baby later this year.
-People
★ Chris Rock’s mom, Rose, is standing up for her son. The motivational speaker shared her reaction to Will Smith infamously slapping her son during the Oscars. In a TV interview, Rose Rock said: “When Will slapped Chris, he slapped all of us, but he really slapped me. Because when you hurt my child, you hurt me.” The 77-year-old said she initially believed that it was a staged event “until he started with the obscenities.” Rose said that she has “no idea” what she would say to Smith if given the chance, except: “What in the world were you thinking?”

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Rihanna — always thought she would raise her children in her native Barbados, but now says that’s unlikely. She has homes in California, Barbados and London, so at this point, she’s unsure where she will raise her first child with rapper A$AP Rocky.
• Ed Sheeran — has pledged to donate the royalties from his ‘2step’ music video to a Ukraine relief appeal. Friday, he released the video for his latest single, a collaboration with Lil Baby, revealing in the opening text that it was filmed in Ukraine’s capital Kyiv before Russian forces invaded the country in February. LINK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_MvkyuOJgk
• Sean “Diddy” Combs — will host and executive produce the 2022 Billboard Music Awards. The hosting duties come exactly 25 years after Combs took home his first BBMA for his “No Way Out” album. Of the May 15 event, airing live on NBC from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, he said: “I’m bringing the love and setting the frequency at an all-time high.”
• Alice Cooper – when asked what is still on his career “to-do” list, he said he’d like to make a move into musical theatre, and see his “Welcome to My Nightmare” album adapted for the stage, and performed on Broadway or in London’s West End.
• Mick Jagger – says Machine Gun Kelly and Yungblud are keeping the spirit of rock music alive. In an interview, Jagger, one of the greatest frontmen in music history, said: “In rock music you need energy and there have not been a lot of new rock singers around…You have Yungblud and Machine Gun Kelly. That kind of post-punk vibe makes me think there is still a bit of life in rock and roll.”
• Brothers Osborne — T.J. Osborne has been named Grand Marshal of the 2022 Nashville Pride Parade (alongside actor Leslie Jordan, Greg Cason and Alberta Hardison). It is set for Saturday, June 25, part of the 2-day Nashville Pride Festival. The Grand Marshals are also winners of the festival’s Equality Award.
• Kenny Chesney – broke his own record at his “Hear and Now” tour kickoff at Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium. Saturday night, he played to the 5-times extended capacity crowd of 58,369 people – surpassing his own 2018 venue record of 55,292, by over 3,000.
• Runaway June — Jennifer Wayne is a new mom! She shared on Instagram that she and her husband Austin Moody welcomed baby girl Lily Maria Moody on April 18. Congratulations were quick to pour in, including from Jessie James Decker, who wrote: “She’s perfect. love you”. Jana Kramer added: “Aw momma congrats”. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/3ucb99vv

SHOOTING THE BULL

BeREAL – FOR REAL:
Scroll to the side, Facebook and Instagram. There’s a newer photo-sharing app out there – with an interesting twist. The BeReal social media app is enjoying a surge in popularity among young people, which might be surprising – given the fact that it prohibits edited photos. BeReal (get it?) encourages users to share a slice of their life in real time – with a focus on authenticity. Users are invited once a day that it’s time to ‘BeReal’ and share a photo of what they’re doing at that moment, giving friends and others a candid glimpse into their life. There are no filters or edit buttons, so if your hair is a mess, or your only view is of your kid’s spit-up on the carpet, that’s what people will see. Once you receive the notification (which can happen at any time during the day, you have 2 minutes to snap and post a photo of what you’re doing, no matter how mundane. Some users point out that social media was originally intended to allow friends and family to keep up with your life, and BeReal does that more effectively than most other social media platforms.
(I’ve got a feeling we’ll never see the Kardashians on this one!)
(The funny thing is – I’m so technically inept, I’ve never edited a photo in my life anyway!)

BANANAS FOR BANANAS:
If you’re one of the many who, in light of soaring prices, are trying to stretch their grocery dollars these days, here’s something to keep in mind. According to a dietician, bananas are the #1 fruit to eat when you’re on a budget. Why? A number of reasons. Among them: They’re inexpensive (what other fruit can you snack on for a week, for a buck or 2?), they’re nutritious (carbs, fiber and potassium, and they improve gut health, help with blood sugar control and promote healthy weight management). Bananas are versatile (they’re not just a portable, delicious snack – they can be made extra-filling when paired with nut butter or yogurt, they also make a great topping for toast, an excellent addition to smoothies and can, of course, be mashed into baked goods). It’s a little-known fact, but you can also eat banana peels, either fresh or frozen.
(I’d only eat them frozen – because it’d have to be cold day in hell…)
(All that – plus the daiquiri thing. Is there anything bananas CAN’T do?)

FINGER-POINTING:
Sure, long fingernails may make a fashion statement, but the longer they are, the more likely it is they contain microorganisms that can cause infections, according to a new report. American University researchers say studies have found 32 different bacteria and 28 different fungi underneath fingernails. And that goes for artificial nails, long natural nails, gel nails, acrylic nails, and even nail polish. All these increase the probability that microorganisms lurk underneath them, which also makes it more difficult to wash off with simple handwashing. One study found a resistant bacterium in half of fingernail samples, which could lead to an infection. Fingernail bacteria can be transmitted to one’s system via scratching, nail-biting, nose-picking and finger-sucking, according to a biology professor. The bacteria and fungi underneath long nails can also lead to a nail infection, which could leave the fingernails disfigured.
(Quick! Someone call an ambulance for Megan Thee Stallion!)

CELEBS WHO SAID, “NAH, I’M GOOD”:
Everyone knows that classy Dolly Parton has asked to have her name withdrawn from consideration for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. But did you know . . .
➠ David Bowie:  Turned down honors from the Queen not once, but twice. He said “nope” to a CBE in 2000, and in 2003, when offered a knighthood, he told the press: “I seriously don’t know what it’s for. It’s not what I spent my life working for.”
➠ John Lennon:  He, along with the other Beatles, accepted an MBE in 1965…and he gave it right back in 1969. In a letter to the Queen, he said he was returning it “in protest against Britain’s involvement in the Nigeria-Biafra thing, against our support of America in Vietnam, and against ‘Cold Turkey’ slipping down the charts.”
➠ Sinéad O’Connor:  When nominated for 4 Grammys in 1991, she pre-emptively refused to accept any she might receive, due to the “false and destructive materialistic values” of the music industry. She still won a Grammy.
➠ Marlon Brando:  When he won the Best Actor Oscar for his role in “The Godfather”, he famously sent a Native American woman named Sacheen Littlefeather to turn down the award in his place. She said from the stage that Brando would not accept the “very generous award” because of the “treatment of American Indians today by the film industry.”
➠ Drake:  In December 2021, withdrew both of his 2022 Grammy nominations. While he never explained why, following The Weeknd’s snub in 2020, Drake wrote: “I think we should stop allowing ourselves to be shocked every year by the disconnect between impactful music and these awards.”
➠ Dolly Parton:  Also turned down the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Twice.  Once because her husband was ill, and once because she couldn’t travel due to COVID. Quote: “I’m not sure that I even deserve it. But it’s a nice compliment for people to think I might deserve it.”

DID YOU KNOW?
The European Parliament has approved plans to require mobile phone companies to use the same charger for their products. Under the plan, which could be in effect by 2026, companies will be required to adopt USB-C ports on all devices, allowing for more interoperability and healthier competition between brands, as well as cutting waste. The rule would only apply to countries within the European Union, but given the impact it’d have on production lines, it is expected other countries would conform.

BS CHRONOMETER 04.26.22

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .

• “Kids & Pets Day”, a celebration of the magical connection between children and animals. (Mainly because kids are the likeliest family members to drop food from the table…)
• “Pretzel Day”, honoring the world’s oldest snack food. They were made as early as 610 A.D. by monks in France & Italy, using dough scraps formed to represent a child’s arms folded in prayer.
• “Get Organized Day”, Do you find yourself lost in an absolute sea of clutter? Is your filing cabinet more of a 3-story garbage can? Does your desk require an archaeological team to find? Get Organized Day just may be your salvation. (I may need a month…)
• “Audubon Day”, saluting John James Audubon, born on this day in 1785. He’s best known for his wonderful bird portraits. What is often forgotten is that he painted them using stuffed models, captured in the wild. (But at least he died with no egrets!)

• “Richter Scale Day”, celebrating the 1900 birth of Charles F. Richter, who invented the Richter Scale in 1935. It calculates the energy released by an earthquake by measuring its magnitude, or seismic waves on a scale from 0 to 9. (9 being a moody teenager stomping to their bedroom…)
• “World Intellectual Property Day”, established by WIPO in 2000 to celebrate content creators, and to raise awareness of how patents, copyright, and trademarks impact our daily lives. (So we have them to blame for Jake Paul?)
