If the Sheet Fits, Buy It!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Floyd Mayweather is accused of hiring an interior designer to redesign his new Beverly Hills mansion, only to stiff them out of the $650,000 he owes them for the project. Palumbo Design says they held up their end of the deal by completing work on the home. The company says Mayweather paid over $1 million for their work on the project, but then stopped paying and ignored their repeated demands for further payment on the remaining $650,000 owed.
($650,000….what’s that….about 45 seconds in the ring?)

★ Even after allegations surfaced of Aziz Ansari’s supposed sexual assault, Netflix is still willing to work with him for another season of “Master Of None”. An exec says the company is “happy to make another season of Master Of None” whenever Aziz is ready to start filming. Ansari acts, writes, and directs the hit production. The series has won a number of Emmy Awards.

★ Andrew Lincoln has revealed his reason for leaving “The Walking Dead” after its upcoming ninth season. It’s because he misses home. Lincoln lives in England and “The Walking Dead” shoots for over half the year in Georgia, keeping him away from his wife and two young children for long periods of time. He says that the kids become “less portable as they get older. It was that simple. It was time for me to come home.”
(I “fear” The Walking Dead might be pretty much done!)

★ After lutzing into our hearts during the Olympics and dominating last season of “Dancing With the Stars”, Adam Rippon is taking over the judging panel for the dancing show. Rippon will be a judge for the Junior edition of the show this fall and will sit on the panel alongside “La La Land” choreographer Mandy Moore (not that Mandy) and DWTS alum and dancer Valentin Chmerkovskiy.
-Cosmopolitan
★ Alex Trebek’s contract with “Jeopardy!” expires in 2020 and the question on everyone’s mind is who will be his replacement if he steps down? Trebek has suggested Alex Faust, the 28-year-old LA Kings hockey play-by-play announcer. Trebek has been the face of “Jeopardy!” for 34 years, ever since it was revived in 1984, and is closely involved in the show’s production.

LAVASTORY:
Sometimes you visit a public washroom and you’re presented with a choice: Paper or hand dryer? You may have washed your hands to a shine, but if you immediately re-contaminate your hands, it sort of defeats the purpose. Researchers at the University of Connecticut’s School of Medicine carried out a series of experiments in which they collected bacteria samples from 36 men’s and women’s washrooms. You might not like the sound of this, but they found that bacteria in the bathroom air are actually drawn into the dryer and then shoot out the nozzle. So an electric hand dryer basically concentrates the bacteria, and blows it back onto your hands after you just washed them off. Dryers equipped with HEPA (high efficiency particulate air) filters significantly reduced the amount of bacteria passing through the machines, but some microbes remained, which could develop into bacteria. The experts’ take on all of this? Whenever possible, use paper towel.
(Did they look into the ‘pants’ method at all?)
(And when they’re out of paper towel, should we turn to the dryer….or to T.P.?)

MAID ME HAPPY:
It’s what mankind has searched for since the dawn of civilized society. Or earlier. What is the key to happiness? And a new study has found the answer. Buy more takeout and hire a maid. That’s the takeaway of a study, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, where they found that spending money to save time may reduce stress about the limited time you have in a day, thereby improving happiness. It didn’t matter whether the test subjects were rich or poor – people’s levels of happiness benefitted from ‘buying time’. As one of the authors of the study pointed out, “If there’s some task that just thinking about it fills you with dread, then it’s probably worth considering whether you can afford to buy your way out of it.”
(Although, if you were a maid, you’d look kinda funny hiring a maid!)
(My problem is that I’m cheap AND lazy…so I never get anything done!)
(So it’s better to spend money to save time than to spend time to save money?)

THINGS WE DID BEFORE CELL PHONES THAT SEEM WEIRD NOW:
➠ Used actual cameras: And that was always handy…..not.
➠ Asked for directions: You could either go to the gas station or ask a random stranger on the street. (If they were laughing as you pulled away, you knew you might be in trouble…)
➠ Checked email on the computer only: Remember going through that 6-minute computer boot-up process to see if that one important email had arrived?
➠ Used the ATM to check a bank balance: Online banking wasn’t really a thing yet. You either had to manage your checkbook like a hawk or stand in line at the bank machine to find out that you were broke.
➠ Used real taxis: Before cellphones, hailing a random person to give you a ride was called hitchhiking.
➠ Used an answering machine: Remember, there was no texting, so if you weren’t around when someone called, this handy gadget was a lifesaver.
➠ Memorized phone numbers: Quick, what are your two closest friends’ phone numbers? Don’t know? Back then, you probably had about 10 peoples’ numbers memorized.
➠ Made eye contact: That used to be a thing. Apparently….
