BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ The stars of “Game of Thrones” are at ‘war’ with production execs after they were banned from taking home props as mementoes of the show. Veterans of the HBO epic — which reportedly earns the studio $1 billion a year –had planned to take souvenirs from their time on the set. And despite the ban, some are allegedly still planning to take their most beloved on-screen possessions home. They believe they deserve them after spending years shooting the hit show in freezing weather and other difficult conditions.
(Better leave them there….for the inevitable reboot!)

★ Legendary actor Robert Redford has confirmed he is retiring from his 58-year acting career following his upcoming movie, “The Old Man & The Gun”. The 81-year old said, “Never say never, but I pretty well concluded that this would be it for me…and why not go out with something that’s very upbeat and positive?” The film stars Redford as infamous criminal Forrest Tucker, a man who robbed banks for over 60 years and who was best known for breaking out of prison multiple times. It will be released Sept. 28.

★ The organizers behind Farrah Abraham’s upcoming boxing match are opening their wallets wide in hopes that a huge star will sign on, and they’ve got their sights set on Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan. Investors have agreed to pay either Paris or Lindsay $250,000 for 3, 2-minute round matches with the former “Teen Mom.” On top of the payment there would also be a $100,000 payment to a charity of their choice, if they choose to participate.

★ HGTV has announced that they are the the mysterious buyers of the famous “Brady Bunch” house who swooped in and swiped it from the clutches of Lance Bass. The sale was the stuff controversy over the weekend when the *NSYNC singer announced on Saturday that he won the bidding war for the home … only to declare that he, in fact, had been outbid.

• Demi Lovato – has checked out of Cedar-Sinai and is headed for “an in-patient rehab facility.” She broke her silence on Sunday in an open letter to her fans, saying, “I want to thank God for keeping me alive and well. To my fans, I am forever grateful for all of your love and support…Your positive thoughts and prayers have helped me navigate through this difficult time.”
• Pink – has been unable to shake the bug she caught while Down Under, and at last report was recovering in hospital after being diagnosed with a nasty gastric virus.
• Prince – A vinyl copy of his fabled 1987 LP known as “The Black Album” has sold for $27,500, making it the most expensive record ever sold on online music marketplace Discogs. The album was withheld from release by Prince, who told Rolling Stone in 1991: “I suddenly realized that we can die at any moment, and we’d be judged by the last thing we left behind. I didn’t want that angry, bitter thing to be the last thing.”
• Guns N’ Roses – Slash has commented on the possibility of new music from the band as they enjoy a break from their “Not In This Lifetime” tour. He says: “It’s been talked about. I think everybody wants to do it, and we’ll just see what happens. We’ve been busy doing this running around the planet.”
• Sinead O’Connor – has released ‘Milestones’, her first song in four years, under the alias of Magda Davitt. The lyrics touch on her mental health struggles. She told Dr. Phil last year that she was changing her name to be “free of parental curses.”
• Robbie Williams – the new “X Factor judge is reportedly also set to appear in an upcoming documentary entitled “Hunt For The Skinwalke”, which is about the hunt for alien life. The film probes strange events that have occurred on the Skinwalker Ranch in Utah. Williams is expected to open up about his own experiences with extra-terrestrials.
• Garth Brooks – reveals in his new book “The Anthology Part 1″ that he originally wanted George Strait to record what became Garth’s signature song, ‘Friends in Low Places’. Brooks writes that he’s not sure whether or not Strait heard the song, or if someone else from his team decided it wasn’t right for him.
• Keith Urban – will serve as advisor for Team Blake in the Season 15 of “The Voice”. Thomas Rhett will assist Team Kelly. The Voice Season 15 premieres Sept. 24.

FAMILIARITY BREEDS CONTENT:
Some people seem like they’re always on the go. Bouncing around from work to the gym, and fitting in a busy social calendar, plus all those appointments and events with the kids. But it turns out, they, just like you and I, spend the majority of their time at the same set of places. Twenty-five of them, to be exact. A study which tracked people over a period of two years found that most of us spend the bulk of our time in roughly 25 places that we return to repeatedly. Researchers believe that in general, people are constantly trying to toe the line between curiosity and laziness, discovery and familiarity, and visiting 25 places on a regular basis seems to ease them into a happy medium.

TEACH THE WORLD TO SING:
We all know that music has therapeutic value. But a new study finds that actually singing can be very good for you as well…both physically and mentally. A study published in Evolution & Human Behavior found that choral singing calms the heart, boosts endorphin levels, improves lung function, expands pain thresholds, and decreases reliance on pain medication. Choral singing (singing with a group of people) was also found to elicit feelings of inclusion, connectivity and positivity, and fosters social closeness in a group. That’s a lot of benefits. A psychologist agrees, saying that music is a powerful way to encourage large groups to bond, such as when a stadium crowd sings the national anthem, or when religious groups sing together. What’s more, another study found that attending live music concerts can improve well-being. It claims that attending a concert bi-weekly could extend your life expectancy by up to nine years.
(If I went to a concert every two weeks, I couldn’t afford to live nine more years!)
(Yes, but my singing doesn’t necessarily make OTHERS happier…)
(For me, singing in a large group is definitely the way to go. The larger the better!)

THE MOST-GOOGLED SCIENTIFIC MYTHS:
➣ Toilets in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres Don’t Swirl Opposite Ways: Nope. But hurricanes and tornadoes do, due to the ‘Coriolis effect’, involving the rotation of earth. Toilets are too small for this to have any effect. (My wife tells me that they are also too small for me to use without a light on…)
➣ Salt won’t make your water boil faster: Yes, you should add salt to your pot of boiling water for flavor, but it won’t make it boil faster. It will have the exact opposite effect…but you’d have to add way too much to actually notice the difference.
➣ Don’t Trust the 5-Second Rule: Should we need to be told that germs won’t actually wait five seconds before they start to infect our snacks? (Although it doesn’t seem to hurt the dog…or me if I drop something really good!)
➣ Glass is not a liquid: No, it is an amorphous solid: a substance more rigid than liquid, but less than a pure solid. As ‘evidence’ that it is a liquid, some point to the fact that old windows are thicker at the bottom than the top, but that’s more about how old-time windows were made.
➣ It’s OK to swim after eating: Swimming strenuously after eating could potentially lead to cramps, but it is not very likely. Less than one per cent of drownings in the U.S. occur shortly after a meal. (See? The warnings are working!)
➣ Dogs do sweat: But not much. While panting is their main method of temperature regulation, they are able to sweat in the areas of their bodies not covered by fur, such as their paw pads. (That explains the smell of their shoes!)
