Another Sheetload of Bull!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Sylvester Stallone is speaking out following the news that his wife, Jennifer Flavin, filed for divorce last week. Amid rumors that Flavin opted to file for “dissolution of marriage and other relief” after 25 years over a disagreement about Stallone’s Rottweiler, Dwight, Stallone set the record straight, telling a reporter that they simply “went in different directions.” As news of the divorce circulated Wednesday, so did rumors that Flavin decided to file for divorce after Sly decided to get a Rottweiler for protection for the family, something that she didn’t want. The issue over the dog supposedly led to arguments that ultimately led to the divorce filing. According to Stallone, however, that isn’t the case. Although Stallone confirmed that he and his wife had some disagreements over the dog, they, QUOTE: “did not end the relationship on such a trivial argument.”

★ Kelli Giddish, who plays ‘Detective Amanda Rollins’ on “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”, is leaving the show. She joined the NBC drama in its 13th season and will depart in the middle of the upcoming 24th season. Speculation has been rampant of late that Giddish may be looking to turn in her badge, and in a statement, she said: “Playing Rollins has been one of the greatest joys and privileges of my life…She’s grown and changed, and I have as well.” The new season begins September 22, when a 3-way crossover is planned for all of NBC’s Law & Order dramas.

★ Sean Connery will forever be synonymous with the Aston Martin DB5 featured in his ‘James Bond’ films, but the only one he ever owned himself, a 1964 model he purchased in 2018, has sold at auction for $2.4 million. Connery’s son, Jason, said that his father “used to talk about owning his own DB5, for no other reason than he loved the car, and I think in hindsight it did represent something in his life that was unique and captured a moment in time.” The winning bidder paid almost twice the pre-auction estimate of $1.4-1.8 million, but the sale included a chauffeured drive in the car by Formula One legend Jackie Stewart, a fellow Scot and longtime friend to Connery.

• Madonna – Her daughter Lourdes Leon has dropped her debut single ‘Lock and Key’, under the moniker, Lolahol. The dance track was co-produced by experimental artist Eartheater, who also directed the music video, in which Lolahol ventures around New York City’s boroughs. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2p9e56c8
• Nickelback – has teased 10 tantalizing seconds of new music, and the internet is loving it. With the caption “Soon”, the group tweeted a clip of what may be the heaviest song they’ve ever written. • Van Halen – Sammy Hagar says he collaborated on a song with the late Eddie Van Halen in a dream. SHOOTING THE BULL

MARRIAGE PROBLEMS:
Imagine being invited to a wedding – and then, in the words of Alanis, being “uninvited”. Despite the fact that pandemic lockdowns are a thing of the past (at least for now…), it seems some soon-to-be-married couples have returned to the concept of the “microwedding” – and inflation is to blame. Couples blindsided by wedding budgets that have blown up by as much as 100% are scrambling to economize by any means possible in order to contend with the highest inflation in 40 years – and in some cases, that means downsizing their plans, and asking people that they had previously invited to share their big day, NOT to come. The Knot, which conducts an annual survey on wedding trends, found that nearly half the couples who were married last year reduced their guest count, and inflation has only continued to climb since. These days, couples are haggling more, searching for less-expensive substitutes for everything from entrees to engagement rings, and cutting costs any way they can.
(Just wondering: If you’re “uninvited” to a wedding, are you required to RSVP, saying you got the message?)
(In our family, we held a lottery to see who would go to my brother’s 4th wedding. The loser had to show up!)

‘HALF’ A DRINK:
Scientists in the UK say the trick to cutting back on your alcohol consumption may be as simple as using a smaller glass. Their new study found that people who regularly drink wine at home consumed less each week when they switched to smaller glasses and bought smaller bottles. They determined that households drank 6.5% less wine each week when the participants switched out their usual wine glasses for smaller ones provided by the researchers. Opting to buy half-size bottles of wine (375ml) instead of the standard size of 750ml cut down on people’s drinking by 3.6%.
(And having your mother-in-law move out cuts it by 45%!)
(I tried it. All I noticed was more trips to the liquor store!)

NEWS OF THE WEIRD:

➢ A TikTok cooking duo earned their third Guinness World Record by visiting 69 fast food restaurants in a 24-hour period in New York. Chefs Nick DiGiovanni and Lynn Davis, chose Manhattan as the location because they could visit all 69 eateries with a single 8-mile walk. The pair, who previously cooked up the world’s largest chicken nugget and world’s largest cake pop, were required to purchase and consume at least one food or drink item at each location — but the rules didn’t stipulate they had to do the consuming themselves, so sometimes other customers waiting in line were treated to free food. They had 24 hours to complete the record, but they managed to visit all of the restaurants in 7 hours and 15 minutes, despite some time lost by getting stuck in an elevator at Macy’s on 34th Street. (Have these guys never heard of Uber Eats?)
➢ A Tesla owner will never lose his keys again — after spending $400 to have them permanently implanted in his hand. Brandon Dalaly of Detroit shared a video showing him having a chip implanted in his right hand, then using the device to unlock his vehicle, with just the wave of a hand. The implanted chip can also start the car from the inside. He says that now, he uses it as his key when his Bluetooth key fails, or he doesn’t have his key card. Dalaly, a self-described tech nerd, isn’t new to getting microchip implants for the sake of convenience. In his other hand is a chip that can unlock the front door to his house. It also stores his medical info, like his COVID-19 vaccinations. (Great until the battery goes dead…) LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2cwsu7wt

DID YOU KNOW?
Wood is one of the most common building materials, but it obviously has a big weakness – fire. Now, a team in Singapore says it has created an invisible coating which can prevent wood from burning. Researchers from Nanyang Technological University say their invention allows for the “natural beauty” of wood to shine through and only activates through exposure to flames — keeping it fireproof. Current fireproofing methods involve using fire-retardant panels (like gypsum or magnesia boards) or treating the wood with thick mixtures that conceal the natural wood grain. The new coating is just 0.075 millimeters thick and transparent, making it invisible to the naked eye. (Makes poor kindling, though…)
