BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Leonardo DiCaprio spent years trying to get an Oscar of his own, and now he’s being forced to hand over an Oscar in his possession to the feds. Don’t worry, though, it’s not the one he earned for his role in “The Revenant”. It’s actually Marlon Brando’s 1954 Oscar for “On the Waterfront”. DiCaprio was gifted the Oscar by Malaysian financier Jho Low, who originally bought the Oscar for $600,000 at an auction. Low is being accused by prosecutors of committing fraud against an investment fund for billions of dollars. DiCaprio has handed over the Oscar, as well as a painting by Pablo Picasso, and any additional gifts given to him by Low.

★ Charlie Sheen is celebrating one year of sobriety. He posted a photo Tuesday of a one-year sober medallion, writing, “so, THIS happened yesterday!” Sheen has famously battled addiction over the years, and it was brought to the spotlight during his public meltdown on “Two and a Half Men.” Although he has claimed he was sober for 11 years, he says he returned to drugs and alcohol to deal with his HIV diagnosis.

★ It was all waterworks Tuesday morning as Kathie Lee Gifford revealed that she’s done with “Today.” During the show, Gifford said, “I’ve been here almost 11 years … I thought I would stay one year, but something happened along the way.” Co-host Hoda Kotb couldn’t keep it together, and began sobbing while saying to Gifford, “The moment you stepped into my life with both feet, everything changed.” Gifford will make her exit from the show in April.

★ Carol Burnett will receive a brand-new Golden Globe award named after her. At the 76th Annual Golden Globes next month, the inaugural Carol Burnett Award will go to the lady herself, who celebrated her 85th birthday in April. She became TV royalty with her CBS variety hour in the 1960s and 1970s. The prize will be given for the recipient’s work in television throughout his or her career, and will not be limited to onscreen personalities.

★ Nicole Kidman has donated $500,000 to support human rights. Kidman recognized both Human Rights Day and her late father’s birthday on Monday by making the whopping donation to the United Nations Trust Fund to End Violence Against Women while speaking at a UN luncheon. She then took to Instagram to post a picture of her later father, Dr. Anthony Kidman, who passed away in 2014, and praised him as an ”advocate for human rights”.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Ariana Grande — took to social media on Tuesday to share the news of the release of her next single, ‘Imagine’. On Twitter, she simply wrote, “‘imagine’ thursday night.” On her Instagram story, she posted a countdown which reveals the song will be out tonight at midnight EST/9 p.m. PST).
• Mel B — Her recent injuries are the result of a fall down stairs. She was staying at a friend’s house in London and, when she woke up and decided to go downstairs, she fell down a narrow staircase. She has undergone surgery. She reported on social media Monday that she was suffering from a severed hand and broken ribs.
• Avicii – The Netflix documentary of his life will drop Dec. 28. It was filmed over the course of four years, and at one point in the doc, he is seen saying that touring can be so stressful and difficult that “it will kill me.” His April death at 28 was ruled a suicide.
• Def Leppard — has won the fan vote ahead of this morning’s announcement confirming the lineup of 2019 inductees into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. They tallied 547,000 votes, ahead of second-place Stevie Nicks with 427k and Todd Rundgren with 365k. While winning the fan vote doesn’t guarantee induction, all of the artists who have won it since its introduction in 2012 have gone on to receive the honor.
• Queen – ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ is now the most-streamed classic rock song ever, according to Universal music. With more than 1.6 billion streams, it has surpassed Nirvana’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ and Guns N’ Roses’ ‘Sweet Child of Mine’.
• Chris Young – revealed on social media this week that his next single is going to be ‘Raised on Country’. To promote it, he is running a contest which he describes thusly: “I reference a whole lot of artists that I grew up listening to in the song by name, so I’m going to post this link, you guys can go vote, and every week, whoever gets the highest number of votes, artist-wise, I will go record one of my favorite songs of theirs that I grew up on and really made me raised on country.”
• Florida Georgia Line – Have announced the release of their fourth album, “Can’t Say I Ain’t Country”. It is set for release on February 15.
• Dolly Parton – Her brother Floyd Parton has died at 61. Together the siblings wrote many No. 1 hits, including Dolly’s 1991 duet ‘Rockin’ Years’ with Ricky Van Shelton, and 1978’s ‘Nickels and Dimes’.
CAN’T WEIGHT FOR CHRISTMAS:
Stats show that adults tend to gain about two pounds per year. And yes, much of that extra poundage can be attributed to extra calories taken in during the holiday season. Unfortunately, weight gained at this time of year often stays with us, and although these gains are small, they can amount to a lot over time. Researchers at the University of Birmingham monitored 272 people throughout their holiday revelry, and discovered that those who weighed themselves at least twice per week and recorded their weight on paper were better able to restrain their eating and drinking, and were therefore better able to control their body weight. Those who didn’t weigh themselves regularly, in spite of the fact that they received information encouraging healthy eating, generally ended up gaining weight.
(Or did they just lie when they wrote down their weight?)

MARKING YOUR TERRITORY:
Facebook is working on a new feature that might know where you are going before you do. Reports are that Facebook has filed a patent application entitled “Offline Trajectories” for a technology which can predict where you’re going “based at least in part on previously logged location data.” The plan is for the feature to use your previously logged locations, as well as other people’s, to make predictions. If, for example, you tend to go to a specific restaurant after visiting the gym, whenever you are in the area of your gym, Offline Trajectories will compute for the probability that you’re going to that restaurant next. If it determines that you are indeed heading to that restaurant and that location has spotty coverage, it can pre-load your News Feed for you. Facebook also plans to monitor nearby Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cellular and near-field communication (NFC) signals. If people the same age as you typically visit a set of specific locations in your city, it can make a prediction based on that behavior, and plan your route to Starbucks before you even realize that you need a Toasted White Chocolate Mocha.
(Great. So now Zuckerberg not only knows my history…he also knows my future!)

• “Geminid Meteor Shower”, this annual event peaks tonight and into tomorrow morning. As Earth crosses the debris field of asteroid 3200 Phaethon, we will enjoy a predicted rate of 120 meteors seen per hour. Tiny particles will enter our atmosphere at 35km/second, producing long, slow and very bright streaks vaporizing about 80 km high. Some consider this the best meteor shower of the year.
• “Hot Cocoa Day”, because there’s nothing like a steaming mug of the stuff on a bitter cold December day. (Ouch! Burned my freaking tongue!)
• “Violin Day”, so pick up your Stradivarius and let’s make some sweet music together.
• “St Lucy’s Day”, honoring her 304 AD birth.
