Why Not Get Sheet-Faced Every Morning?

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Pete Davidson is speaking out about the bullying he has endured over the past nine months, sharing an emotional post on Instagram about how this treatment has affected his mental health.  In a message to fans, he wrote: “I’ve kept my mouth shut. Never mentioned any names, never said a word about anyone or anything. I’m trying to understand how when something happens to a guy the whole entire world just trashes him without any facts or frame of reference.” It’s pretty clear that he’s talking about the aftermath of his recent breakup—during which he’s come under a lot of scrutiny from fans.

★ “Free Willy” star Jason James Richter was able to cut a deal and avoid a lengthy jail sentence after being arrested on allegations of domestic violence.  He pleaded no contest to a vandalism charge on November 29. His charge for battery on a significant other was dropped. Richter was arrested in October on suspicion of domestic violence. He was hit with the vandalism charge for allegedly breaking down a door to get to his girlfriend. Richter rose to fame for playing the lovable bad boy, Jesse, in the “Free Willy” franchise.

★ Ariel Winter is showing that the sisterly bond between her and “Modern Family” co-star Sarah Hyland is bigger than TV. Over the weekend, Hyland’s cousin and uncle were involved in a serious car crash in Omaha, Nebraska. Hyland’s uncle, Bryan, is recovering in the hospital, but her 14-year-old cousin, Trevor, was killed. Hyland posted a GoFundMe to help raise money for her cousin’s funeral expenses. So far, the largest donation is from Ariel Winter who gave $2,500. Hyland donated as well, kicking in $1,000.

★ After an internet uproar over the possibility of “Friends” leaving Netflix at the end of 2018, the streaming giant has announced a renewal to keep the sitcom through the end of next year. Fans of the show went into a tizzy over the weekend after spotting a notice from Netflix indicating it would no longer be available to stream as of Jan. 1.  Netflix has now removed that expiration notice from its website. Under a new agreement with Warner Bros. Television, it will be available in the U.S. and Canada through 2019.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Justin Bieber — has reportedly spent months working on his new album. He posted a video of a little girl speculating that he had quit music to focus on his marriage, with the caption, “Don’t believe everything you read sweet little girl you will hear something from me sooner than you think.”
• Katy Perry — outbid a fan to win a motorcycle date with her boyfriend Orlando Bloom at the One Love Malibu charity auction. A woman put forward a $20,000 bid, but Perry ended up making the winning bid of $50,000. She was also one of the performers at Sunday’s benefit concert to raise funds to help rebuild the city and its community after the devastating wildfires.
• Alanis Morissette – changed up the lyrics to her hit ‘Ironic’ on Sunday at the One Love Malibu charity auction to benefit wildfire victims. After dropping the line of “It’s like ten thousand spoons, when all you need is a knife,” she followed up with “It’s meeting the man of my dreams, and meeting his beautiful … husband.” The original lyric was “wife,” but the crowd loved the progressive twist.
• Cyndi Lauper – sang ‘If I Could Turn Back Time’ in tribute to her long-time friend Cher at the Kennedy Center Honors ceremony Sunday night.  The evening ended with an extended tribute to the iconic singer and actress.
• Queen – will team up again with singer Adam Lambert to tour North America next year. The 23-date arena and stadium “Rhapsody” tour is set to run from mid-July through late August with an “all new concert experience.”  Tickets go on sale Friday.
• Hootie and The Blowfish — announced their first tour in over a decade on Monday. They will begin a 44-city romp with special guests Barenaked Ladies on May 30, and will release a new studio album next year as well. The band took a hiatus in 2008 so Darius Rucker could pursue a country music career, which led to a Grammy in 2013.
• Lindsay Ell – is among those named the New Faces of Country Music 2019 Class by the Country Music Radio Seminar. Also on the list:  Jimmie Allen, Russell Dickerson, Lanco and Dylan Scott.  All will participate in a showcase during the New Faces of Country Music Dinner and Show on Feb. 15, as part of the annual Country Radio Seminar in Nashville.
• Dan + Shay – Their song ‘Tequila’ has been named the best country song of 2018 by “Taste of Country”.  (***Full list here:  http://tasteofcountry.com/top-songs-of-2018/ ***)

GROWN-UP CHRISTMAS LIST:
If your “Young Sheldon” is asking for all the latest high-tech gifts for Christmas this year, here’s a little something you might want to share with Santa.  For kids under about 5 years old, it’s best to stick with the good old-fashioned basics – like blocks, puzzles and even cardboard boxes.  Dr. Alan Mendelsohn, who authored a new report on gift-buying for young children, says studies show that heavy use of electronic media could interfere with children’s speech and language development, interfere with playtime with parents, and lead to obesity.  He points out that something like a box, however, can be drawn on or made into a house.
(And before you know it, Junior will have made it into a smartphone!)
(And no batteries required!)
(But if the kid’s got the box, what is the cat going to play with?)

OH! CHRISTMAS TREE:
If putting up a Christmas tree isn’t an option for your family because of a rambunctious dog, or if putting one up is a dicey proposition because you don’t want to chase a cat with tinsel dragging from its behind throughout the month of December, then here is the tree for you:  U.K. company Argos is selling a 6-foot-tall artificial “half Christmas tree” that only has branches at the top.  That’s right.  Bare trunk for the bottom three feet, traditional Christmas tree branches on the top three feet.  Right now, it’s only available to those living in the UK and Northern Ireland, but we have a feeling that someone else just might catch on to this idea and make it available elsewhere.  It’s also worth considering if you happen to have a toddler.  How much?  Just US $38.
(Get one, and HALF a Merry Christmas!)
(If you have an artificial tree, you can kinda do that yourself…)
(More room for that huge-screen TV under the tree, too!)

BAT DROPPINGS:
Dozens of Australian families have been forced to leave their homes after thousands of bats dropped dead on their properties.  Cairns residents started reporting massive numbers of spectacled flying foxes, or fruit bats, dropping out of trees last week, when temperatures in Australia’s Queensland region rose to above 40 degrees Celsius. A mother-of-two described her home being surrounded by rotting bat carcasses as a “scene out of a horror movie.” Animal experts say that the nocturnal mammals cannot sustain an internal temperature of over 40 degrees, and with no way to cool off, their organs start to shut down and they eventually die. Wildlife rescuers have been working around the clock with spray bottles and drippers to cool off and hydrate the helpless creatures.  Apart from the environmental issues, the massive number of rotting bats so close to people’s houses has now become a become a serious public health issue.
(Not to mention the smell…)
(“I did NOT say to put another bat on the barbie, Mate…”)
(I guess that’s one way to tell for sure if you have bats…)

FEEL-BETTER FOODS TO EAT WHEN YOU HAVE A COLD:
➢ Berries: They have loads of benefits, including being a hydrating source of vitamin C, which is great for your immune system.  Fresh berries are best.  Add them to yogurt, cereal, salads, or smoothies. (Or make someone else do it…you’re sick!)
➢ Bananas:  They’re chock-full of potassium, as well as other powerful nutrients such as fiber and vitamin B6.  Not only are they good for your immune system, the electrolytes in bananas have seriously impressive energy-boosting benefits.
➢ Eggs:  They might not be the first food you think of when you’re feeling under the weather, but experts agree they do wonders for your immune system. They’re loaded with protein, which is an important nutrient to have in your body when you’re fighting an illness of any kind.
➢ Fatty Fish:  A diet containing DHA-rich fish oil, found in fatty fish, boosts the activity of a white blood cell called B-cells, an important part of the body’s immune system response. If you’re not big into seafood, go for fish oil supplements.  (Fatty fish?  I’m pretty sure that was my nickname in grade school…)
➢Nuts: Nuts are an excellent way to increase your levels of dietary protein and add some essential fats into your diet when you are sick. Plus, nuts and seeds are excellent disease fighters.  Nut butters are a good alternative.
➢ Yogurt: Yogurt is a good source of protein—especially Greek yogurt—which plays a role in the body’s defense mechanism.  Choose live culture versions, and you’ll get probiotics, or “good bacteria,” which may help ease the severity of colds.
➢ Ginger:  This flavorful flowering plant is known for its ability help ease cold symptoms by relieving congestion and stimulating circulation.  Try sprinkling ground ginger on roasted carrots, sweet potatoes or pumpkin or buying unsweetened ginger tea, which will also help ease a sore throat.
(When I’m sick, I consider anything that stays down a “feel-better” food!)
