Sheet For Brains!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Billy Dee Williams is being showered with love and support after coming out as gender fluid. The 82-year-old “Star Wars” actor opened up about using both he/him and she/her pronouns in a recent interview with Esquire, saying: “You see I say ‘himself’ and ‘herself,’ because I also see myself as feminine as well as masculine…I’m not afraid to show that side of myself.” Williams will reprise his role as Lando Calrissian in “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”, out Dec. 20.

★ Pete Davidson has been requiring all attendees at his recent stand-up comedy shows to sign whopping $1 million nondisclosure agreements to prevent leaks and social-media chatter about his material. One (possibly former) fan posted the agreement on Facebook. It reads in part: “The individual shall not give any interviews, offer any opinions or critiques, or otherwise participate by any means or in any form whatsoever (including but not limited to) blogs, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, or any other social networking or other websites.” Attendees who didn’t feel comfortable toeing the line of potential bankruptcy were given full refunds.

★ The official “Game of Thrones” Twitter account has unveiled the secret it has been teasing for the last while — the Blu-ray and DVD release of the whole series. Many fans were left disappointed by the news, because the box sets had actually already been announced. Game of Thrones somehow took over social media all over again last week with a simple three-word tweet: “Winter is coming.” The ominous catch phrase had many fans hoping for news on the prequel series, the books or some other loose end for the franchise, but that was not the case.
-PopCulture
★ Charlie Sheen is selling the Cleveland Indians cap he wore in “Major League,” as well as the ball that was used in the famous scene in which his Ricky “Wild Thing” Vaughn strikes out his nemesis with a 101-mph fastball. Sheen said that he hopes “whoever buys the cap and ball will get as much enjoyment from them as I did all these years. Sheen also said that whenever he had guests over, “They always asked about trying on the cap.” The items are being auctioned online and close on Friday. At last check, the high bid on the hat was $4,600 and $2,400 on the ball.

DON’T GIVE ME ANY STATIC:
Ask any runner, and they’ll tell you: Static stretching improves running performance and decreases the risk of injuries. Not so (ahem) fast. Instead, runners should take part in an active warm-up to help with their performance, and progressive training to reduce risk of injury, according to research by La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia. Their studies showed that ‘static stretching’, or lengthening a muscle to the point of tension for about 30 seconds, does nothing to decrease the likelihood of injury. Instead, researchers suggest that runners build their intensity through progressive training, including an active warm-up that involves 5-10 minutes of walking or light jogging. That could be followed by 6-8 dynamic stretching drills, then (for racers) three short running bursts at the goal running pace, such as three 100-meter dashes.
(At what point should I incorporate my heart attack into this?)
(I do all the static stretching I need just tying my shoes!)
(Aaaaand that’s #26 on my list of things that I’ll never have to worry about!)

SOUNDS APEELING:
Yes, bananas are good for you. But, as it turns out, so is the PEEL. Top dietician Susie Burrell says that eating banana skins can improve your sleep, enhance your skin and even boost weight loss. She says that if you can manage to get them down, you’ll up your fibre content by at least 10%, you’ll get almost 20% more vitamin B6, and about 20% more vitamin C. You’ll also boost your potassium and magnesium intake. But please note, she is NOT suggesting that you just start chewing on the peel once you’ve finished eating the inside. She suggests putting it in a smoothie, baked goods or a curry to boost your nutritional intake.
(***Chewing sounds***) Did she have to wait until the END to tell me that?)
(How can I expect to lose weight if I’m eating all those extra vitamins and stuff?)
(I heard that people were going bananas for edibles lately!)

HEALTH MYTHS THAT WERE DEBUNKED IN 2019:
➢ Hand sanitizer isn’t effective:  A study found that offices that carried hand sanitizer had 23.4% fewer health care claims then those who don’t. Though washing with soap and water helps, using alcohol-based hand sanitizer can lessen your chances of getting sick.
➢ Antiperspirants cause cancer:  Studies found no correlation between cancer and antiperspirants. (So why do some people still refuse to use it?)
➢ You should take multivitamins daily:  A study found that taking vitamins might actually be harmful. Some vitamins are associated with health risks in high doses. It’s a safer bet to get specific vitamins or minerals based on what your diet is lacking. (Good, because I keep forgetting to take mine, anyway…)
➢ Apple cider vinegar helps with weight loss:  Yes, it can boost digestion and manage your cholesterol and blood sugar, but it probably won’t help you drop any pounds. (And if it’s heartburn you’re looking for, that stuff is EXCELLENT!)
➢ Activated charcoal is good for just about anything:  While it can be beneficial in the case of an overdose, there is no evidence that it is useful as a detoxifying agent in any other situation. (Use it for what it was created for: Barbecuing!)
➢ Sugar makes kids hyperactive:  A study showed that though some kids might be more sensitive to blood sugar spikes than others, sugar doesn’t directly affect behavior or cognitive performance in children. (Fine. But every mother knows they’re wrong!)

DID YOU KNOW:
If you’ve ever noticed that your hair ‘hurts’ when you’ve gone a few days without washing it, you’re absolutely right. If you don’t wash your hair for awhile, oils that your scalp produces accumulate around your hair shaft, promoting the overgrowth of yeast on your scalp, which can lead to skin inflammation, redness, itchiness and scaliness. The inflammation may be felt in the form of an ‘ache’.
