Good Morning, Sheetheads!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:

Other “honorees” on this year’s list include the remake of “Hellboy” and “The Haunting of Sharon Tate”. Anne Hathaway is a double-nominee for Worst Actress for her performances in “The Hustle” and “Serenity”, and John Travolta is up for Worst Actor twice for his work in “The Fanatic” and “Trading Paint”.

★ Pamela Anderson and her new husband Jon Peters split up after he sent a text message ending their 12-day marriage. According to reports, the text message described their relationship as a “beautiful amazing love fest,” but also said that “this whole marriage thing…has scared me.” Peters wrote that at the age of 74, he needs “a simple quiet life and not an international love affair”. He then wrote that the two need “to go our own separate ways” and that he hopes Anderson can forgive him. Oh, and then the movie producer wrote that he’d still like her to be in one of his movies.
(The last time she made a movie with a husband, it was definitely before they broke up!)

★ Maggie Gyllenhaal has been cast as Elvis Presley’s mother Gladys in Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming Elvis Presley biopic. She’ll star alongside Austin Butler, who is playing Elvis. Tom Hanks is on board to play Presley’s former manager Colonel Tom Parker, who spotted Elvis’ talent in the early 1950s, initially helping him with bookings and promotion before becoming his manager. The as-yet-untitled biopic is slated for release on October 1, 2021, and production is expected to begin later this year.

★ Simon Cowell has written a children’s book with his 5-year-old son Eric. Simon says that the two wrote it together on a plane, “so whether he likes it or not, he’s in the family business already.” In true Simon style, he also says about the book: ”It’s brilliant, and we’re meeting publishers at the end of this month.” He admits he and his son disagreed about who would be listed first as author. According to Simon, his son asked: ‘Who comes first, Eric or Simon?’ I said, ‘Well S comes before E in the alphabet, so Simon’. But eventually, someone told him that E comes first so now it’s ‘By Eric and Simon Cowell’.”

★ Orson Bean, a familiar face on TV game shows and series from Hollywood’s Golden Age to Netflix, was fatally struck by a car Friday evening while walking across a busy boulevard in Los Angeles. Bean, best known for his roles in “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman” and “Being John Malkovich,” was 91. He was a frequent participant on quiz shows like “To Tell the Truth,” “Super Password” and “Match Game,” and made guest appearances on shows like “The Twilight Zone” and “Grace and Frankie.” He had regular roles on “Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman” and “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman.”

HIGH IMPACT:
The type of music on your playlist can make your workout better, according to a new study. The report, published in the journal “Frontiers in Psychology”, found that listening to high-tempo music can reduce the amount of perceived effort of a workout, and boost cardiovascular benefits compared to slower tempos. Researchers say that for benefits to occur, music should be at least 170 beats per minute (ie: ‘Take on Me’ – A-ha). They also found that music can boost your mood before exercise, and inspire bursts of effort, performance and endurance, while minimizing perceptions of pain and fatigue.
(I’ve gotta tell you, some of the music I hear at the gym is the SOURCE of my pain and fatigue!)
(And I thought women wore earbuds just so I wouldn’t talk to them!)
(Pro-tip: Don’t listen to fast music while at a buffet!)

NOW BOREDING:
You’ve definitely seen some viral videos of people having a “travel meltdown”. Now, Los Angeles International Airport is looking for people to do just that. The airport is looking for 500 people to be their “nightmare travelers” and pretend to need extra assistance, be sick, or just act difficult to help test out its new Midfield Satellite Concourse, which is scheduled to open this summer. They are asking for volunteers to simulate what the 750,000-square-foot facility will be like when operating at peak capacity. The airport plans to test everything from emergency responses to how concession workers operate. Volunteers will be asked to fill out a survey and, if picked, will be emailed their characters the day before the test.
(They’re looking for nightmare travellers? I told them to send my kids back when they’re done with them…)
(I saw the ad. It said “Miserable people needed at the airport. Bring your own baggage. Literally.”)
(It would take a special kind of person to volunteer to spend a day at an airport…)

VALENTINE’S DAY IDEAS THAT YOUR PARTNER WILL LOVE:
…according to relationship experts…
➢ Write a love letter:  A handwritten love letter might seem old-fashioned, but it can be very romantic. For a special touch, present it along with breakfast in bed. (What if my cooking is as messy as my handwriting?)
➢ Romantic picnic:  Restaurants are packed, so if you live somewhere warm, find a nice spot on a beach or in a park. It shows you put some thought into making the day special. (And if you live somewhere cold…at least there’ll be no ants!)
➢ Try something new together:  Indoor skydiving, a cooking class, an art workshop…new experiences have a bonding effect on couples. (This is going to be just like picking a movie. She has automatic veto power!)
➢ Visit the place where you went on your first date:  This will bring back fond memories and help to set the mood. If you’re married, you can also visit your wedding venue and reread your vows. (This time WITHOUT a hangover…)
➢ Track down something from your Valentine’s childhood:  Did your partner have a favorite toy, movie, or collector’s item as a kid? Find one and present it as a Valentine’s gift. (“Oh, yay. A McDonald’s Happy Meal toy. You shouldn’t have. Really.”)
➢ Surprise your Valentine with their favorite thing:  A thoughtful gesture will make him/her feel appreciated. Have your partner’s favorite lunch delivered to work or slip a special snack in their bag that morning. (That can make it awkward in the evening, though: “What do you mean, reservations? I already got you a Valentines’ meal!”

DID YOU KNOW?
On Oscar night, after climbing the stage steps in Dolby Theatre, accepting a nearly 9-pound statuette and thanking the Academy, every award winner agrees to comply with the “spirit as well as the letter” of the Academy’s regulations. As stated in regulation note 10 under “Copyrights and Trademarks,” Academy Award winners “shall not sell or otherwise dispose of the Oscar statuette, nor permit it to be sold or disposed of by operation of law, without first offering to sell it to the Academy for the sum of $1.00.”

BULL’S BITS

BS WHACK OSCAR FACTS:
✓ While an Oscar is of unnamed value to someone who wins (or loses) one, the actual trophy has a raw value of about $600.
✓ Oscar is standing on a reel of film gripping a crusader’s sword. The five spokes of the film reel represent the five original branches of the Academy — actors, directors, producers, technicians and writers.
✓ The official Oscar engravers are R.S. Owens, and they make plates for every nominee so no one knows the winner ahead of time.
✓ The iconic red carpet is 500 feet long and 33 feet wide.
✓ The “golden envelopes” used during the ceremony are made of burgundy satin, lacquered paper and gold leaf foil, and are heavier than an iPhone.
✓ The phrase: “And the winner is…” was discontinued in 1989. Presenters are now required to say, “And the Oscar goes to …”
