We’ve Got Our Sheet Together!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ “The LEGO Batman Movie”, opening Friday, shares one major facet with its predecessor, 2014’s “The LEGO Movie”, the love of cameos. Many, many cameos. Alongside the primary voice cast of Will Arnett’s ‘Dark Knight’, Michael Cera’s ‘Robin’, Ralph Fiennes’ ‘Alfred’, and Rosario Dawson’s ‘Batgirl’ are brief appearances by Adam Devine, Channing Tatum, Conan O’Brien, Ellie Kemper, Jonah Hill, Mariah Carey, Zach Galifianakis, and Zoe Kravitz. But that’s not where the cast list ends, far from it. There many more surprises being kept under wraps (ie: a bigscreen debut for Apple’s ‘Siri’ … shhh!)
– “The Independent”
★ Brit pop singer Kylie Minogue has won a battle to prevent Kylie Jenner from trademarking the name ‘Kylie’. It’s a legal issue that’s been contested since April 2014, when Kylie Jenner applied to trademark the single name. Minogue’s legal reps reportedly sent a letter to the US Patent & Trademark Office outlining why they should not grant the trademark, describing the 19-year-old as – ouch! – ‘a secondary reality television personality’. The patent office rejected the application last week, but it’s believed that Jenner, who also runs her own fashion and beauty line, has already launched an appeal.

★ Christie Brinkley is returning to the cover of the annual “Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue” … at age 63. The former supermodel landed the coveted front page of the publication 3 years in-a-row back in the 1970s, marking her breakthrough in the industry. Now she’s back alongside her early-30s daughters Alexa and Sailor. In the new photospread, Christie models a curvy black one-piece suit. Brinkley vowed she’d never model in a swimsuit again 38 years ago, but is now saying she’s grateful to be asked to feature in the upcoming issue despite her age.
– “People Magazine”
★ And Brad Pitt’s “World War Z” sequel has been pulled from the movie release schedule. Paramount Pictures has confirmed the follow-up to the 2013 zombie film is no longer being released June 9th. No new release date has been announced, but there are hopes to have it ready to screen by 2018 or 2019. As it stands filming has yet to begin, though it’s likely Pitt will reprise the main role of protagonist ‘Gerry Lane’. Despite production problems and reshoots, the original move became one of the biggest hits of Pitt’s career, collecting $540 million in worldwide box office.

BS CUTTING-EDGE VOCAB:
New terms entering the lingo …
• ‘Computer Vision Syndrome’ – A condition of the eye caused by spending a large amount of time looking at electronic screens. Symptoms include eye strain, double vision, and temporary short-sightedness.
• ‘Gameboy Disease’ – A spinal condition in children caused by looking down at hand-held devices for long periods of time. It began with gaming devices but is now more likely to involve excessive use of smartphones.
• ‘Resistance Fatigue’ – Mental exhaustion brought on by the constant protesting of unpopular government policies.

MUSHROOM COFFEE IS NOW A THING:
If Finnish company Four Sigmatic gets its way, we’re all going to be sipping fungus-based java as part of our morning routine. It’s being touted for its health benefits, some of which check out. The beverage-maker is selling instant coffee blends, hot cocoa mixes, and elixirs infused with dried fungus. Research suggests that maitake mushrooms lower blood glucose in patients with Type 2 Diabetes, while the chaga mushroom variety could help lower coffee’s acidity to make the morning brew easier on the digestive system. However, detractors warn that consuming a concentrated form of any healthy compound can have potential side effects and interactions. (Considering how mushrooms are grown, another downside could be: “This coffee tastes like sh–!”)

FOR THE RECORD:
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson can now boast an unusual new culinary honor after helping create the ‘World’s Largest Seven-Layer Dip’. The “Furious 7” star recruited employees at his Seven Bucks Studios in Los Angeles to put together the monster appetizer, constructed in a giant glass fish tank as a Guinness World Record official looked on. The colorful dip, featuring sour cream, refried beans, guacamole, cheese, olives, and salsa, weighed in at 540 lbs (245 kg). The feat was filmed and posted on YouTube, then the whole shebang delivered to LA’s Midnight Mission for the homeless. (Which immediately needed 7,000 bags of nachos.)
