Sheeters Always Prosper!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Sorry ‘Jason’ fans, but it seems everyone’s favorite goalie-masked serial killer isn’t coming back from the dead any time soon. After reboots of “A Nightmare on Elm Street” and more recently the “Rings” franchise failed to stick, a planned revival of the “Friday the 13th” horror film series is being sent to the morgue. The reboot would have been the 13th film in the franchise, which started in 1980 with ‘Jason’ as an un-killable bad guy who supposedly died as a boy at ‘Camp Crystal Lake’.

★ An ambitious live show based on “The Fast & The Furious” movie franchise is in the works. Universal, the studio behind the film series, is teaming with Brand Events to launch a live international arena tour next year. “Fast & Furious Live” debuts in January, 2018 and features scenes from the movies, cars from the franchise, and stunts based on those performed in the films. A Universal rep claims fans will experience everything they love about the movies in an up-close and incredibly cool live show, putting them in the center of the action.

★ And late “Wizard of Oz” star Judy Garland was reportedly groped by the ‘Munchkins’, her ex-husband Sid Luft claims in a new book. His posthumous memoir, “Judy & I: My Life With Judy Garland”, details his love affair with the Hollywood star who shot to fame as ‘Dorothy’ from Kansas. The biography alleges some of the tiny actors put their hands up the skirt of a then 16-year-old Garland as she filmed the 1939 Oscar-nominated musical. There were 225 Munchkins in the cast. Some of the little men, who were 40 or more years-old, apparently thought they could get away with anything because they were so small.

• Ed Sheeran – Meantime, the 25-year-old flame-haired singer-songwriter has revealed that he and actor Russell Crowe love getting drunk together. The pair are believed to have met in 2015, when Russell presented Ed with ‘British Album Of the Year’ at the BRIT Awards. Sheeran says: “We don’t get anything from each other, other than just a night out.”
• Katy Perry – She’s also teasing new music on her Instagram account with a cryptic video featuring a disco ball chained to her foot and a release date of this Friday. Alongside the footage, she’s written: ”Why are we all so chained.” Eh?
• Kesha – Music producer Dr Luke has launched a counterclaim against her over unpaid royalties. Their unsavory legal battle has been ongoing since 2014. Now he’s claiming he is the one who is owed money … $1.3 million in royalties to be precise.
• Lady Gaga – Here’s why you play the Super Bowl halftime show for free … her digital music sales increased by 1,000% after her performance on Sunday. Sales of “Born This Way”, “Bad Romance”, and “Poker Face” all spiked, with over 125,000 song downloads in total.
• Red Hot Chili Peppers – 54-year-old frontman Anthony Kiedis is currently performing on a torn tendon in his ankle, but won’t be cancelling any shows. He tells “ET Canada”: ”I’m always getting banged up, and hurt, and repairing, and recovering, and hurting, and it’s just normal.”
• Tegan & Sara – The twin-sister singing duo are blasting Canada’s Juno Awards for not nominating enough women. They’ve received 3 nods, but note that in 8 award categories no women have been nominated at all. Drake, Shawn Mendes, and The Weeknd are the leading nominees for this year’s Junos, being staged April 2nd in Ottawa.

COMING ATTRACTIONS:
A BS selection of movies in the making …
• “The Beach Bum” – Matthew McConaughey is starring in a new ‘stoner comedy’ from “Spring Breakers” director Harmony Korine. The 47-year-old actor plays ‘Moondog’, a surf-loving, laid-back rogue who lives life to the fullest. McConaughey has starred in a stoner comedy before, “Dazed & Confused” back in 1993. Shooting on the new project is due to begin in July.
• “The Burning Woman” – Sienna Miller stars with Jacki Weaver, Aaron Paul, and Christina Hendricks in this new family drama. The plot focuses on a woman who has to raise her young grandson after her teenage daughter mysteriously goes missing. It is the latest dramatic role for Miller, following her role as a crime boss mistress in Ben Affleck’s “Live by Night”.
• “Dragged Across Concrete” – Actors Mel Gibson & Vince Vaughn are reuniting for this crime thriller from filmmaker S Craig Zahler. Vaughn starred in the Oscar-nominated film “Hacksaw Ridge” last year, which was directed by Gibson. “Dragged Across Concrete” centers on a pair of suspended police officers who turn to crime to pay their bills.
• “The Price of Admission” – Michael Sheen & Michelle Monaghan have been confirmed to star in this new dramedy-existential thriller that’s said to be in the tradition of “Being John Malkovich” and “Birdman”. Sheen portrays a middling playwright undergoing a midlife crisis whose wife (Monaghan) grows tired of being second-fiddle to his work.
• “Toni Erdmann” – Hollywood legend Jack Nicholson is starring in this English-language remake of a German film alongside Kristen Wiig. The story follows the lonely father of an ambitious businesswoman, who disguises himself in order to follow her on a business trip. The original film is Oscar-nominated for ‘Best Foreign Language Film’ this year.

THE REASONS FOR PDA:
A new survey says that making out in public is all about making others jealous. It’s a way of showing the world what’s yours, kind of like a dog claiming things by peeing on them. For guys, it’s been found the most common reason for PDA is to increase social standing. On the other hand, the most common motivator for women to make out in public is to make their ex jealous, and/or to exact revenge in hopes that he’ll want to get back together. But while the researchers have determined that straight women make out with dudes in public simply out of petty bitterness, they make out with other chicks to seem like a fun and adventurous party girl and to gain status. (Or so the lecherous guys say.)
