Don’t Take Any Sheet, Unless It’s Pure Bull!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ “Party of Five” is coming back.  After ordering up a pilot for a reboot of the 1990s series last fall, Freeform has announced that a full season order is now a go. In the original version, the five Salinger children were left to sort out life after the sudden death of their parents in a car accident. In the new version, the Acosta children (still a party of five!) must band together and move forward after their parents are deported to Mexico.

★ Jimmy Kimmel is taking his show on the road again, this time to his other hometown, Las Vegas. He’ll head to Sin City to shoot five shows starting April 1st. Kimmel’s return to the city where he spent much of his childhood isn’t the first time he’s brought his Los Angeles-based show to his old stomping grounds for a batch of episodes — but it’s the first time he’s taken it to Vegas.  He previously brought the show to his place of birth, Brooklyn…four times.

★ “Dancing With the Stars” has been a juggernaut its debut, kicking off in 2005 and continuing for a whopping 27 seasons, and counting. But the hit show is taking a break this spring for the first time after airing two seasons each year since its premiere.  Long-time judge Carrie Ann Inaba says, “It’s going to be a good season when it comes back” in the fall.  There’s no word yet on what’s in store, but recently producers have switched up the format by introducing a juniors competition and an all-athlete season.

★ The New York red carpet opening of Liam Neeson’s latest film “Cold Pursuit” has been cancelled amid a row over his comments that he once wanted to kill a random black man after someone close to him was raped.   While Lionsgate did not give a reason for the cancellation. Neeson has denied he is racist, but the remarks, published by “The Independent” on Monday, sparked an outcry. He said he had wanted to start a wider conversation about racism.

★ It’s the end of a comedy era: “Modern Family” has been renewed by ABC for an 11th and final season in 2019-20. It’s seen its  audience decline in recent seasons, but it consistently ranks among the network’s top five scripted series. Modern Family has been credited as groundbreaking for primetime in its portrayal of a gay couple as stable, loving and parents of a precocious girl.  Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen and Eric Stonestreet have each won two Emmys for their roles on the show.

★ “Watch What Happens Live’s” Andy Cohen announced the birth of his first child to fans on social media late Monday evening. Sharing a black and white photo holding the newborn, he revealed his name is Benjamin Allen Cohen, named after Andy’s grandfather.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Ariana Grande — A scene in her ‘God is a Woman’ video has potentially landed her in hot water. Artist Vladimir Kush is suing over an image of what appears to be Grande in a candle flame.  The lawsuit argues the image is nearly identical to Kush’s paintings from 1999 and 2000.
• Katy Perry and Kacey Musgraves – will perform a Dolly Parton tribute at the 2019 Grammy Awards. Parton, an eight-time Grammy Award winner, will receive the 2019 MusiCares Person of The Year prize on Friday.
• Madonna — will be presented with the Advocate for Change Award at the 30th Annual GLAAD Media Awards on April 12.  In the announcement, GLAAD President Sarah Kate Ellis described her as the ”LGBTQ community’s greatest ally” and cited her AIDS benefit concerts, her benefit dance marathon and her ”action at a time when AIDS was too often invisible in the media.”
• R. Kelly – isn’t slowing down amid rampant accusations of sexual abuse. On Tuesday, he announced his “King of R&B” tour. Although he did not share specific dates, he plans to make stops in Australia, New Zealand and Sri Lanka.
• Def Leppard — The supermarket chain Aldi will sell a new line of limited-edition cheeses named after some of the big songs of the 1980s.  They’ll be taking on some new nostalgia-themed packaging with their “Pour Some Gouda on Me” and “Sweet Cheddar of Mine” cheeses. Also coming: “Girls Just Wanna Have Fontina”, “Billie Goat Is My Lover”, “Total Eclipse of the Havarti and “Wake Me Up Before You Goat-Goat”.  (Who said ’80s music is cheesy?)
• James Brown – A new investigation suggests he might have been murdered. He died on Christmas morning 2006, after being admitted to hospital with pneumonia. The investigation began after a reporter was contacted by a circus performer and singer who said that she had information surrounding his death.
• Brandi Carlile – has announced additional dates for her North American “By the Way, I Forgive You” tour, including a special debut performance at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on Sept. 14. She is the most-nominated female artist at this Sunday’s Grammy Awards, with seven.
• Thomas Rhett – has joined the cast of Sesame Street for a new song, ‘This is My Street’, which was written to celebrate the show’s 50th anniversary.  In the video, Rhett can be seen doing everything from sharing his cookies with Cookie Monster to drawing with Big Bird and counting with the Count.  LINK:  The Video
• Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban — have both signed their names to the Recording Academy Task Force on Diversity and Inclusion’s ‘Producer & Engineer Inclusion Initiative’, which aims to provide more opportunities for female producers and engineers. Women make up only five percent of the workforce in both fields.

OBVIOUS 101:
A new study says that if you want your child to do well in school, you should help them study.  The research, published in the Journal of Labor Economics, found that a student’s success in the classroom isn’t determined by genetics or by the financial support that a parent feeds into their child’s education, but by the tried and true method of parents spending time with their kids going over their homework and helping them prepare for tests. Researchers say this backs up the findings of other studies which have found that highly educated parents tend to spend more time with their children.
(Give it a try…you might learn something!)
(I might have known…in fact I would have, if my parents went over that research with me!)
(So having a new iPad, like my daughter said, has nothing to do with it?)

CREATIVE RIGHTING:
Yes, if you want to be competitive in the job market, it is important to be constantly learning new skills.  The business networking site LinkedIn analyzed hundreds of thousands of job postings to determine which are the most in-demand skills for 2019, and they found that for the first time ever, creativity is ranked as number one.  LinkedIn’s Paul Petrone says that employers are recognizing those things technology can’t do, such as connecting with other people, engaging in out-of-the-box thinking and quickly adapting to new priorities or problems.  That’s where your creativity comes in.  As far as in-demand “hard” skills go, you’ll want to brush up on your cloud computing for 2019.
(Anyone know where I can learn to cloud-compute creatively?)
(I’ve been spelling creatively for years!)

THE FOODS THAT A HEALTH INSPECTOR WILL NOT EAT:
Lynn K. Richards is a food safety consultant and health inspector, and here is what she avoids:
✗ Unpasteurized milk and juice:  Why? Just listeria, salmonella, E. coli, food poisoning, vomiting, diarrhea, life-threatening kidney failure, miscarriage, and death.  (If those don’t bother you, have at ‘er!)
✗ Raw fish and shellfish:  Raw oysters can contain Vibrio, bacteria that occur naturally in coastal waters. They have also been linked to norovirus. Raw fish can contain vibrio, salmonella and parasites.  (I never liked sushi, anyway…)
✗ Foods that have gone through a meat grinder or slicer:  Those machines are almost impossible to clean properly. (Hey, what’s the worst thing that could happen?)
✗ Baked potatoes in foil sitting at room temperature:  They can produce the botulinum toxin, which leads to botulism, which can kill you.  (Well, so can having sour cream and bacon-bits but nothing to put them on…)
✗ Cookie dough or cake batter:  Raw egg could contain salmonella, while uncooked flour can harbour E. coli. (Of course, it doesn’t count if you’re licking it off the beaters!)
✗ Buffets:  She doesn’t avoid them altogether, but she’s extremely selective about which ones she would go to. Between the coughing, the breathing, the kids’ fingers and the adults’ fingers, you have to be careful.  (I don’t know why she would bother.  There’s nothing left that she’d eat, anyway…)

DID YOU KNOW?
There is a proposed bill before the legislature in Hawaii that if passed, would ban the sale of cigarettes to anyone under the age of 100.  As ludicrous as it sounds, it is effectively a proposal to progressively ban the sale of cigarettes in the state.
(Wow.  Smoke if you got ’em!)
