★ Jussie Smollett is under arrest after turning himself in to the Chicago Police Department, who wanted him for filing a false report. The “Empire” actor told police he was attacked on Jan. 29 by two men who threw a chemical on him, called him anti-gay slurs, and put a rope around his neck. In a later interview with police, Smollett also said one of the attackers shouted, “This is MAGA country.”  Smollett, who is black and openly gay, has maintained that he was the victim of a hate crime.
-BuzzfeedNews
★ Heidi Klum marked the end of an era with a tweet. She took to Twitter to officially say goodbye to “America’s Got Talent,” where she’s been a judge for six years. Klum wrote: “I wanted to say THANK YOU and how amazing the past 6 years have been…I love my fellow judges, our hosts & AMAZING CREW…” Earlier this year, NBC announced that Klum and Spice Girls singer Mel B would not be coming back for the show’s upcoming 14th season. They will be replaced by Julianne Hough and Gabrielle Union.

He says he will be making “sizeable donations to animal protection groups in each city that I play.”
• Foreigner – Original singer Lou Gramm has teased the possibility of new material. He also says that he dreams of reuniting with the group for a Las Vegas residency, which would allow them to play to thousands without the gruelling routine of going on the road. Gramm says, “I haven’t floated the idea, but I may at some point.” (You just did.)
• AC/DC – Angus Young has made a $19,260 donation to support dementia music programs in support of fan Steve McNeil, who is participating in skating marathons of 19 hours and 26 minutes in each Canadian NHL city.  McNeil has been raising cash for a Montreal Alzheimer’s charity in memory of his mother Eunice, who died in 2013 with Alzheimer’s.  Young’s brother Malcolm died in 2017 with dementia.

TOO STUPID FOR US TO MAKE UP:
It seems that love doesn’t last forever.  Even for a pair of giant tortoises who have split up after living together for 115 years. Bibi and Poldi were both born around 1897, met soon after, and became a couple.  They shared space at a zoo in Switzerland before spending the last 40 years together at Haoo Reptile Zoo in Austria.  But a few years ago, things turned ugly when the female (Bibi) bit a chunk out of Poldi’s shell.  Although zoo staffers have tried to help the pair reunite, nothing has worked, including “couples counselling.”  Bibi still hisses at her former partner, and workers have been forced to build separate, though neighboring, living facilities for them. Zoo chief Helga Happ says, “We get the feeling they can’t stand the sight of each other anymore.”
(She probably found a blonde hare in his bed…)
-MNN
➢ Yes, socks go missing.  It happens.  But Kim Crosland of New Zealand knew that the rate at which hers were disappearing over a two-year period was extreme.  After speaking to a neighbor with the same problem, she had an idea. She wrote her phone number on a sock with the message, “Please call if you find this sock.” She received a text the same day from a neighbor who is the owner of a 12-year-old cat named Billy.  That neighbor says Billy has been bringing socks home for years and leaving them in the driveway.  She even displays them on a wall in hopes that they will be claimed.
(Bobby is currently being treated for severe halitosis…)

➢ A Russian teenager has been charged for driving a backward car.  Not driving a car backwards — a backward car.  He was stopped by police in a battered Lada in which he had moved the engine to the trunk compartment and turned the driver’s seat around, allowing him to drive the vehicle in reverse, but with his eyes pointed in the direction of travel.  Although his ingenuity was enough to get a shout-out on Twitter from Elon Musk, police were less impressed.  The teen was charged with illegally refitting a car…and for driving without insurance.
(Of course.  Who would insure that thing?)

ALSO STUPID – BUT COOL:
Taco Bell is opening the world’s first “Slide Thru” Take Out Window.  Hungry snow-tubers at Horseshoe Resort near Barrie, Ontario will be able to place their order at the top of a steep hill, slide down, and grab their food from a custom-built take-out window at the bottom.  The “Slide Thru” will only be operating on Saturday, March 2nd as a promotion for Taco Bell’s new Cheetos Crunchwrap ‘Slider’.  This is the same company that installed a billboard in Toronto last month which included a free “Unlimited Nacho Cheese” dispenser, to prove that “everything is better with nacho cheese”.
(“How many runs does that place have?”  “Today? A lot.”)
-Narcity

DID YOU KNOW?
A poll says that by age 18, the average American has spent 1,000 hours arguing with his or her parents (almost 42 days).  The top reasons for friction?  Chores, messy bedrooms, messy shared spaces, homework, and bedtime.
(Not tattoos?  Lucky parents!)

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Be Humble Day”, Just for one day, try not to brag or to boast; and try not to talk about your success or accomplishments. Why? Because humility is a good thing. (And then tomorrow, you can brag about how humble you were!)

• “Cook a Sweet Potato Day”, And the best way to do that? Sweet badayda fries. Mmm!

• “Margarita Day”, Tequila, triple sec, lime juice, and ice are everything you’ll need to celebrate … well, that and some good friends. And a tropical beach wouldn’t hurt.

• “Walking the Dog Day”, But wait a minute, don’t you walk your dog just about every day?
(So, we’re not talking about the yo-yo trick here?)

• “World Thinking Day”, an annual celebration of Girl Scouts/Girl Guides founders Lord & Lady Baden-Powell’s joint birthday. Scouts & Guides are encouraged to “think” of good deeds.

• “Stand Up to Bullying Day”, a semi-annual event in which participants sign and wear a pink shirt to take a visible stance against bullying. The color of the shirts is based on a campaign started by Travis Price and David Shepherd, two students who took a stand for a fellow student who was bullied for wearing a pink shirt to school.

SATURDAY-
• “Curling is Cool Day”, celebrating the Winter sport of curling … basically a drinking game with some housecleaning interspersed.
• “Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day”, A recent poll of pet owners finds that about ⅓ have eaten dog food at one time or another, most likely just to see what it tastes like (Or to gross out their sister!)
• “Diesel Engine Day”, on this day in 1893, Rudolf Diesel received a patent for his diesel engine. Instead of gasoline, this engine burns fuel oil and uses compressed air in the cylinder instead of a spark to ignite the fuel.
• “Banana Bread Day”, the first cookbooks mentioning banana bread were published during the Great Depression. Culinary historians believe that a resourceful housewife who did not want to throw away over-ripe bananas may have invented the original recipe.
• “Open That Bottle Night” … you know, the one that’s gathering dust in your wine cellar, or maybe that 20-year-old bottle of Scotch you were given as a gift. What are you saving it for?

SUNDAY-
• “Tortilla Chip Day”, saluting the invention by Rebecca Webb Carranza of Los Angeles during the 1940s. Rather than tossing misshaped tortillas from an automated tortilla machine into the trash, she decided to cut them into triangles, fry them, and sell them for a dime a bag. They were an immediate hit!
• “World Bartender Day”, a day designed for you to appreciate the staff at your favorite watering hole. They work hard to keep their customers happy and often aren’t well-paid.
• “National Trading Card Day”, the first baseball cards, made in the 1860s, were trade cards for a sporting goods company. By the early twentieth century, most baseball cards were packaged with candy or tobacco products. The most valuable baseball card ever, the T206 Honus Wagner card, was manufactured by the American Tobacco Company in 1909. There are thought to be less than 100 of them in existence, and one has been sold for over $3 million.
