Another Sheetload of Bull!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ All the celebrities sharing their cute transformations in the 10-year challenge have been silenced now that Caitlyn Jenner has dropped the hammer. As you know, things have changed drastically for Jenner recently.  In a side by side photo of Bruce and Caitlyn, the reality star wrote, “Now THAT is a #10YearChallenge,” adding, “Be authentic to yourself.” The challenge has taken the internet by storm, and involves posting a picture of yourself taken in 2009, and one in 2019. Celebrities like Reese Witherspoon and Jessica Biel have gotten in on the viral sensation, but no one’s holds a candle to Jenner.

★ It looks like the world is going to get some more action-packed “Mission: Impossible” adventures in the near future. Director Christopher McQuarrie has signed on to helm two new installments, with the high-octane thrillers expected to hit theaters in the summers of 2021 and 2022. Tom Cruise, who has starred as super spy Ethan Hunt all six films in the franchise so far, has confirmed that new Mission: Impossible adventures are on the way.
(If he has managed to accomplish 6 “impossible” missions, I’m going to come right out and say it that I don’t think his missions are quite as impossible as they are making them out to be!)

★ Paris Jackson is seeking treatment to get herself back on track after a busy stint of work and travel took a toll on her mental and emotional health.  ET is reporting that Jackson checked herself into a treatment facility, and is taking time to “reboot” before jumping into some new projects. The 20-year-old daughter of Michael Jackson has openly discussed her issues with depression in the past, which included multiple suicide attempts during her teen years.

★ Vera Farmiga and Jon Bernthal will star in the “Sopranos” prequel film “The Many Saints of Newark”. “The Conjuring” star and “The Walking Dead” actor have been cast in unspecified roles in the project which is being created by David Chase 20 years after the Mafia TV drama first aired on HBO. The movie will be set in 1960s America as riots sweep through Newark, and tensions between African American and Italian residents boil over into violence.

A NOT-SO-PERSONAL THANK YOU:
A New York woman is a true believer in thanksgiving.  Or at least in giving thanks…over and over again.  It’s her job to write thank-you notes to complete strangers.  If you think you are too busy (or let’s face it, are too lazy) to pick up pen and paper to write a personal letter thanking Grandma for the socks she knitted you for Christmas, or to tell Aunt Irma that the shower gift was perfect, that’s where Taryn Singer’s company, “With Thanks” comes in.  She will write, address, stamp and mail handwritten letters of gratitude for $4-$5 depending on order volume, plus postage and stationary costs.  Singer provides clients with a spreadsheet so they can fill out the names and addresses of the recipients and what to thank them for.  From there, she writes 4-5 lines of appreciation for the amazing gift, gift-card, or good deed. Customers give final approval before the letter is sent via snail-mail.  You can even arrange to have it sent from your own city so it has a local postmark.
(Does she have a “messy handwriting” option for those of us who are penmanship-challenged?)
(Depending on volume?  It kinda loses the personal touch if she’s doing them for you by the dozen, doesn’t it?)
(Right now, anyone under 30 is saying, “Mail a thank you letter?  People do that?)

STAYIN’ ALIVE:
A biotech company is about to embark on a project to bring dead people back to life.  In what is sure to be a controversial experiment, Bioquark has received permission to recruit 20 clinically dead patients and attempt to bring their nervous systems back to life.  The goal is to eliminate patients’ need to rely on machines by using stem cells to reanimate parts of the upper spinal cord near the brain stem, which could re-energize vital body functions such as breathing and heartbeats. Trial participants will have been declared clinically dead and kept alive through life support machines. The goal is to eventually be able to facilitate a full recovery.  Company CEO Ira Pastor says that this is a step toward the eventual “reversal of death in our lifetime”.
(Cue the thunder SFX and evil laughter!)
(And if that works, they’ll move on to something REALLY challenging:  Reviving the Ottawa Senators’ playoff hopes!)
(No patient is more patient than a dead patient!)

• “Cable Car Day”, on this date in 1871, the first cable car railway patent was bestowed upon Andrew Smith Hallidie. Legend has it that he invented the cable car after he saw a horse-drawn streetcar slip and fall on San Francisco’s steep roadways (unfortunately resulting in the death of 5 horses)

• “Bootleggers Day”, honoring the makers of ‘hooch’ throughout history. Why today? January 17 is the birthday of famed bootlegger Al Capone (also because Templeton Rye Whiskey came up with this lame excuse for free promotion).

In addition to being one of America’s founding fathers, he was a prolific inventor, author, printer, politician, diplomat, musician, and postmaster. He also stopped attending school at the age of 10.
