Tomorrow’s Show Prep Today!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Tiffany Haddish is opening up about her recent struggles. The comedian recently lost several very important people in her life, went through a public breakup with musician Common, and was arrested earlier this month for DUI. On Monday, she appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and didn’t shy away from the topic. Quote: “I’ve been praying to God to send me a new man, a good man. God went ahead and sent me 4 in a uniform.” Haddish went on to say she has “a really great lawyer” to work things out, and “I’ve got to get my asking of things to God a little better.”

★ Peter Robbins, the voice of  ‘Charlie Brown’ in the classic 1960s “Peanuts” cartoons, has died. The former actor died by suicide last week at the age of 65. In addition to voicing Charlie Brown for 4 years, he guest starred on TV shows such as “Rawhide”, “The Munsters”,  “Get Smart” and “My Three Sons”. Robbins quit acting in 1972, after which he worked for a while as a DJ in Palm Springs. Robbins, who suffered from bipolar disorder, made headlines in 2015 when he was sentenced to 5 years for making threats to several people, including public figures.

★ “Fight Club” has been given a new ending in China — and the authorities win. At the end of the cult classic, narrator Edward Norton’s character kills his imaginary alter ego ‘Tyler Durden’, played by Brad Pitt – and then watches as multiple buildings explode. That cuts to the heart of the film’s message: a plan to bring down modern civilization is under way. Now, more than 20 years after the film was released, the message has been given a makeover. In a new version of the film available through Chinese streaming service Tencent Video, the narrator still kills Durden, but the exploding buildings are replaced with a black screen and the words: “The police rapidly figured out the whole plan and arrested all criminals, successfully preventing the bomb from exploding.” It adds that Tyler – a figment of the narrator’s imagination – was sent to a “lunatic asylum” for psychological treatment and later discharged.

★ Demi Moore and Mila Kunis — the past and present wives of Ashton Kutcher — have paired up for a playfully awkward new Super Bowl commercial. In the funny ad for AT&T called “A Lot in Common,” the women play themselves at a high school reunion. During an uncomfortable moment, Moore says to Kunis: “I had no idea we went to the same high school.” Kunis shoots back, “We have a LOT in common.” Oddly enough, in addition to being married to the same person, Kunis and Moore really did attend the same high school — Fairfax High School in Los Angeles — though 2 decades apart.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Kid Cudi, Halsey and J. Cole — will headline the 2022 Governors Ball Festival, at Citi Field in New York City June 10-12. This year’s lineup also includes: Playboi Carti, Jazmine Sullivan, Migos, Denzel Curry, Skepta, Clairo, Roddy Ricch, Tove Lo, Diesel (aka Shaquille O’Neal), and more.
• Pharrell Williams — is launching a jewelry collection with Tiffany’s. He teased a piece from the line – a pair of diamond and emerald-laced sunglasses – while attending the Kenzo’s Autumn-Winter 2022 show, and indicated the sunglasses are the “first of many things I’m going to do with Tiffany”.
• Taylor Swift — Blur and Gorillaz singer Damon Albarn has apologized after claiming she didn’t write her own songs. Swift quickly replied after a newspaper shared his remarks, writing: “I was such a big fan of yours until I saw this…Your hot take is completely false and SO damaging. She added: “PS I wrote this tweet all by myself in case you were wondering.”
• Elton John – His farewell tour has been put on ice again after just 3 stops because he has tested positive for COVID-19. Shows scheduled for Tues. and Wed. in Dallas, originally scheduled to take place in 2020 and pushed back due to the pandemic, were postponed again. John is fully vaxxed and said to be experiencing mild symptoms. The next scheduled date is Sat. in North Little Rock Arkansas.
• Meat Loaf – Of COURSE his streams and sales increased massively in the immediate wake of his passing last week. So much that his 1977 “Bat Out of Hell” album is a solid candidate to reenter the top 10 next week. His album sales spiked almost 19,000%, and individual digital song sales rose a whopping 34,000%.
• Mick Jagger – Joe Satriani says Jagger got a thrill out of playing tiny club gigs in between stadium shows. Satriani played guitar in Jagger’s solo band on tour in 1988, and recalled of the surprise sets at bars: “It was always great, just to see Mick turn it on when he’s literally 12 inches away from the audience.”
• Neil Young — is demanding his songs be removed from Spotify. In a since-deleted letter to his management team and record label posted on his website, he explained he wants his music gone because Spotify also hosts Joe Rogan’s podcast, which, according to Young, has shared “fake information” about the pandemic, “potentially causing death”. At last word, Spotify hadn’t responded.
• Kacey Musgraves – Monday, she surprised a piano bar full of people with an impromptu performance of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Dreams’ ahead of her Philadelphia tour stop. The venue, Tavern on Camac, is Philadelphia’s longest-running gay bar. Footage of Monday’s surprise performance was posted by an Instagram account called Gayborhood Famous. • Jordan Davis — Fresh off his performance at Luke Bryan‘s “Crash My Playa” in Mexico, he has announced a run of dates in April and May, alongside special guest Tenille Arts. He has also lined up a September 27th gig at the world-famous Ryman Auditorium, with openers Seaforth.
• Dolly Parton — Not long after the reissue of her limited-edition Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream custom flavor, now she’s teaming up with Duncan Hines for 2 signature cake mix flavors: ‘Southern Style Coconut’ and ‘Southern Style Banana’, plus the frosting options ‘Buttercream’ and ‘Chocolate Buttercream’.

SHOOTING THE BULL

WANT-REPRENEURSHIP:
More than half of us believe we have a million-dollar idea tucked away in the back of our brains. A survey delving into the increasing shift towards entrepreneurship found that 59% of adults have considered quitting their current job to launch their own business. The OnePoll survey of 2,000 people found that two-thirds of respondents think they would be successful entrepreneurs. Online content creation is the most popular type of business that people dream of launching (51%), selling products online came second (49%), followed by providing services virtually (49%), in-person (46%), and opening a brick-and-mortar store (39%). When asked what keeps them from taking the leap, a third pointed to a fear of failure, while 37% said they lack the financial means. Three in 5 are already ahead of the game by having a side-hustle or are seriously thinking of launching one.
(Do us ALL a favor and don’t launch a podcast!)
(***CAUTION***So what we’re saying here is that everyone wants to make money, but no one wants to get off their ass and away from the computer!)

(MORE) HUMANE SOCIETY:
➢ A leading French aquarium vendor has decided to stop selling round fish bowls because they say they drive fish mad and kill them. AgroBiothers Laboratoire will no longer sell any aquariums with a capacity of less than 3.9 gallons and only rectangular ones, as it believes putting fish in small bowls without filtration and oxygenation is animal abuse. Goldfish can live up to 30 years and grow to about 25cm in large aquariums or outdoor ponds, but in tiny bowls they often die within weeks or months. The company also says goldfish are social animals who need the company of other fish, ample space and clean water. (***CAUTION***My goldfish seems perfectly happy in a bowl. It’s when you take him OUT that he has a fit!)
➢ Many Hong Kong residents are hiring private jets for their pets. Why? Due to some of the world’s strictest COVID measures, 40% of expats say they are considering moving from the financial hub for good, and many have already left, and are now trying to have their pets relocated. This has led to online groups where desperate pet parents pool their money to cover the cost of renting a charter plane. And it’s not just dogs and cats. One private aviation company reports owners have chartered planes for hamsters, rabbits, birds and turtles. (It wasn’t long ago that those animals were more likely to be on the in-flight menu!)

WEIRD WEATHER:
⇒ Much like the Ontario municipality of Chatham-Kent did late last year, the state of Minnesota is holding a vote to name its newest fleet of snowplows. Some of the names being voted on this year include “CTRL Salt Delete,” “Edward Blizzardhands” and “Scoop Dogg”. All of these entries are very clever and catchy, as are the names ‘Sweet Child O’ Brine’ and ‘William Scrape-Spear’. And every one of them has a fair shot at being selected as one of the 8 new names for snow plows. But the one that we’re ABSOLUTELY SURE will win . . . especially this year? Definitely “Betty Whiteout.” (But still, not a “clear” winner!)
⇒ If you think YOU’VE experienced harsh weather lately, be thankful that you aren’t in Florida…and an iguana. With temperatures in Miami dipping below 50°F (10°C) on Monday morning, meteorologists were warning to watch for falling iguanas. As CNN’s Allison Chinchar put it: “Iguanas begin to get sluggish or lethargic once the temperature drops below 50…but once the temperature drops below 45, all the iguanas go into a dormant or cold-stunned state.” The problem? Iguanas often sleep in trees, so when their bodies go dormant, they tend to fall onto streets, cars, pools, or even people. And keep in mind, we aren’t talking about little lizards. Adult males can reach 5 ft. in length and weigh up to 20lbs., so you don’t one want to land on top of you – or your car! But don’t be too alarmed: the immobilized iguanas return to life as temperatures rise again. (Assuming they didn’t shatter on the sidewalk…)

DID YOU KNOW?
Some scientists believe that COVID-19 lockdowns may have helped decrease the amount of lightning produced in the atmosphere in the year 2020. A recent study presented at a meeting of the American Geophysical Union analyzed atmospheric factors that may have contributed to reductions of 10-20%. The study focused on Aerosol Optical Depth, which measures particles produced by burning fossil fuels. These particles can accelerate and enhance the collection of water vapor and cloud formation. The AGU noted that the reduction in lightning was generally consistent with reductions of aerosol particles.

BULL’S BITS

BS WHACK FACTS:
✓ A white flag is not actually a sign of surrender for boats at sea. It’s just a request to communicate.
✓ Before the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics, Usain Bolt ate 100 Chicken McNuggets a day for 10 days straight — and set 3 world records.
✓ A lot of that weird creepy music in horror movies is performed on one unique instrument called a ‘waterphone’.
✓ According to a 2014 study, the melting properties of mozzarella make it the best cheese for topping pizza.
✓ Mexico’s full name translates to “The United States of Mexico.”
✓ Boring, Oregon and Dull, Scotland have been sister cities since 2012. In 2017, they added Bland Shire, Australia to their “League of Extraordinary Communities.”
