Bully For You!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Gerard Butler accidentally got high at a Barbra Streisand concert after his friend gave him a ”hash cookie” without telling him the contents. Speaking during an appearance on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ on Monday,  he said: ”I was at her concert and a friend gave me a bite of a cookie. It turned out it was a little bit of a hash cookie, and I hadn’t really had hash cookies. And I got so stoned.”
(He might have been the only stoned person there!)

★ Golden Globe-nominated actress Mila Kunis has been named Woman of the Year by Harvard University’s Hasty Pudding Theatricals.  Hasty Pudding said it is honoring Kunis because she is one of Hollywood’s “most sought after, vivacious, and engaging actresses.” She’ll be honored Jan. 25 with a parade through Cambridge followed by a roast at which she will receive her pudding pot.
{***see previous story***} (She might as well share it with Gerard Butler…sorry, different kind of pot!)

★ Taraji P. Henson is a big Brad Pitt fan, and she couldn’t say enough nice things about him during her recent appearance on ‘Watch What Happens Live’.  Henson played Pitt’s mother in ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’, a role that earned her an Oscar nomination. And, when a caller asked her the most shocking thing she learned about Pitt while working with him, Henson answered with nothing but praise. She also said that he is so humble that when the paparazzi chased him, it seemed that he couldn’t figure out why.

★ Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have welcomed a new addition to the family.  Kim took to her personal website to announce the baby girl’s birth on Monday. The post was simply titled “She’s Here”.  It went on to say, “Kanye and I are super happy to announce the arrival of our beautiful, healthy baby girl. We are so in love. We’re incredibly grateful to our surrogate who made our dreams come true with the greatest gift anyone could give…North and Saint are also thrilled to welcome their baby sister”.  We are yet to learn the name of the Kardashian’s newest addition to the family.
(Now that she’s born…how about ‘Out’ West?)

★ Troubled “Glee” star Naya Rivera will not be prosecuted for allegedly attacking her now-estranged husband over Thanksgiving weekend in West Virginia.  Naya’s domestic battery charge has been dismissed. A report says that charges were dropped because her estranged husband, Ryan Dorsey, didn’t want to pursue the case.  A week after the alleged attack, Naya filed to divorce Ryan.

★ There’s at least one person who really doesn’t wanna see Oprah in the White House — and he’s aiming to make some cash on the anti-O movement if she runs in 2020.  An Arizona man applied for the rights to use “NOprah” earlier this month on shirts, jackets, shoes, pants and other garments … presumably to sell.
(Does Trump have an Arizona address?)

• Migos – have announced they will be releasing their brand new album “Culture II” on January 26th.  The follow-up to the 2017 release “Culture” includes the lead single “Motorsport”.
• Lana Del Rey – guests on the title track of Borns’ new album ‘Blue Madonna’, which was released this past Friday (January 12th).  She is also featured on the album’s lead single ‘God Save Our Young Blood.’
• Seal – is reportedly under investigation for sexual battery after his former neighbor, actress Tracey Birdsall, accused him of forcefully kissing and groping her in 2016. Birdsall says she was neighbors with Seal in Los Angeles and they became friends, but one day when she went to retrieve her salad spinner, Seal forced himself on her. The incident is under investigation.
• Prince – his estate has announced what is called the ‘Prince: Live on the Big Screen’ concert.  The show will take place April 21 at the Target Center in Minneapolis and will feature “newly remastered and never-before-released audio and video of Prince accompanied live…by a super-group of musicians who performed alongside Prince throughout his legendary career”.

• Kellie Pickler and Ben Aaron – Their show, ‘Pickler & Ben’ has been renewed for a second season. Faith Hill is one of the show’s producers, and Dolly Parton, Tim McGraw, Little Big Town and Reba McEntire are just a few in country music who appeared in Season 1.
• Troy Gentry – The late Montgomery Gentry member was honored by Blake Shelton, Luke Combs, Diamond Rio and other country music stars during this year’s annual Opry Duck Hunt.  How?  According to Diamond Rio’s Instagram post, “All of us dedicated Troy Gentry’s favorite deer stand at the Opry hunt.  The Batman logo.  His favorite superhero.”

39 HOURS AND HOLDING:
Here’s a little something to take to the next “all-staff” meeting:  According to research done by The Australian National University, people who work more than 39 hours a week are putting their health at risk.  They found that the work limit for a healthy life should be set at 39 hours a week.  Lead researcher Dr Huong Dinh says that “Long work hours erode a person’s mental and physical health, because it leaves less time to eat well and look after themselves properly.”  For women, Dr Dinh said the healthy work limit was 34 hours per week, and for men it is 47 hours a week because they generally spend much less time on care or domestic work than women.  Oh, and by the way, according to US researcher Alex Soojung-Kim Pang, most modern employees are productive for about four hours a day: the rest is padding and huge amounts of worry.
(Less time on domestic work? Damn!  They’re on to me!)
(So, when my boss demands at least 40 hours of work per week…is he trying to kill me?)
(I work 39 hours before lunch on Monday…or at least it feels like it!)

A PRE-EMPTIVE ‘GESUNDHEIT’:
If you need to sneeze, let ‘er rip!  This week, the story has been going around (and it’s true) of a 34 year-old British man who tried to stifle a sneeze and wound up on a feeding tube.  He pinched his nose and clamped his mouth shut at the moment of truth and managed to rupture his throat, leading to the feeding tube and a week in the hospital.  Doctors say there are a number of other possible injuries which can occur if you try to stifle a sneeze, including a ruptured eardrum.  On the other hand, letting loose with a big “Achoo!” can also cause problems like neck whiplash, or as in the case of comedian Billy Crystal, a torn rib muscle.  Former baseball slugger Sammy Sosa sneezed such a wildly powerful sneeze that he gave himself back spasms and a sprained ligament that kept him out of action for a whole month.  But just be glad you aren’t  Larissa Stouffer of Melrose, Mass., who usually sneezes not once, not twice, but three times. She sneezes as she gets into a car if it’s sunny outside, but not when it’s cloudy.  As soon as she pops some mint chewing gum into her mouth, out comes an achoo.  And what are some other strange things that cause some people to sneeze?  How about after exercising?  Or while plucking their eyebrows, when in the sunshine, or after sex?
(Oh.  God bless them!)
(All I know if that if I try NOT to sneeze, I end up picking up my eyeballs in the far corner of the room!)

FOOD TRENDS FOR 2018:
Here is what the people who pay attention to what others are eating are expecting us to eat…
➢Plants – 2017, the year of the “plant-based diet”, shows no signs of stopping.  Many more vegetarian and plant-based restaurants are expected to open.   Plants are so popular, celebs are investing too.  In October, Oscar-winner Leonardo DiCaprio put his money into plant-based “meat” startup Beyond Meat.
➢ Medicinal Mushrooms – Look for what the supermarket calls “functional mushrooms,” such as “reishi, chaga, cordyceps and lion’s mane.”  Mushrooom coffee might even be a thing.  And that chaga mushroom I just mentioned?  They can make root beer out of that.
➢ Fermented Tea – Gut health has become a top priority for the health conscious.  One of the elements that is top of mind in the gut health world are probiotics.  Food and drink items high in probiotics, or good bacteria, are more popular than ever. Kombucha (fermented tea) is one of those. Apparently Starbucks is testing this for their menu.  (I’ll ferment my OWN tea according to Grandpa’s secret recipe, thank you very much…)
➢ Fat – Though we once thought that “fat makes you fat,” it’s said that good fats, unlike “trans fats,” can help with everything from weight control and inflammation to heart disease and diabetes. Experts predict that fatty products will become more popular, including things like  full-fat yogurt.  (I’d like an order of “full-fat fat”, please.  For my health.)
➢ Powdered Superfoods – People love a quick way to get in their healthy-eating fix, and powdered substances are seen as an easy way to pack in the nutrition.  Powdered maca root, a new hot ‘superfood’, will be added to smoothies, lattes and oatmeal more in 2018.  (Sounds delicious.)
