BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Tom Hiddleston is staying mum about his new relationship with Taylor Swift and dodging questions from reporters. The twosome are in Australia, where he’s filming the 3rd instalment of the “Thor” franchise. The couple’s trip Down Under is the latest stop of their worldwide whirlwind romance since their relationship went public last month. They’ve since spent time together in Nashville TN; England; Rome, Italy; and most recently celebrated the Independence Day holiday at Taylor’s Rhode Island estate.

★ It’s a good time for animated animals at the box office. “The Secret Life of Pets” follows “Zootopia” and “Finding Dory” as the latest success story this year, opening to a massive $103.2 million over the weekend. The film cost only $75 million to produce. Not adjusting for inflation, “Pets” has earned the title of ‘Best Opening Ever Opening For an Original Animated Property’. The previous record-holder was Disney-Pixar’s “Inside Out”, which opened to $90.4 million last year.

★ And the UFC has now confirmed it’s been sold for approximately $4 billion to a group headed by talent agency William Morris Endeavor/International Management Group. UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta will step down following a transitional period, but Dana White will stay on as president and hold a minority stake. Fertitta and his brother Frank will remain as minority owners after shepherding the growing success of the business that they acquired for $2 million in 2000. The pending sale, expected to be completed before “UFC 202” on August 20th, is said to be the biggest in sports history.

The band is continuing its tour schedule without him.

GET YOUR CREDIT CARD READY:
Today is the off-season sale Amazon.com calls ‘Prime Day’. Amazon says it’s offering more than 100,000 deals over the course of the day, more than twice the number of last year. The catch: the deals are only available to members of Amazon Prime, the Seattle WA company’s $99-a-year membership program that offers free 2-day (and sometimes 1- and same-day) shipping as well other perks, including streaming video, music, and photo storage. That said, it’s possible to sign up for a free 30-day trial, then cancel after Prime Day. Amazon’s betting you’ll be so blown away you’ll stick around. But Amazon’s not the only company offering sales this week. A host of others are jumping on the bandwagon. (Think what a feeling of smug calmness you’ll have if all your Christmas shopping is done in July.)

HAIR TODAY, GONE TOMORROW:
In an effort to save time in the morning, a lot of us have become obsessed with dry shampoo. You just spray it on, shake your hair around, and everything looks less oily and smells (almost) fresh. But increasingly you’ll find images of bald patches and thinning hair from dry shampoo users online. A mini poll of 11 hair experts reaches the consensus that dry shampoo is, in fact, too good to be true. One dermatologist recommends not to use the product more than twice a week. Turns out it isn’t actually shampoo at all; it soaks up oils, which irritates the scalp and doesn’t clean anything. It can weaken follicles and cause them to stick together, so that a single hair that would normally shed during brushing may take 2 or 3 others along with it. (Other than all that though … great idea!)
