There’s No BS Like Show BS …

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ ‘Iceman’ is returning to sunny San Diego and Air Station Miramar. Val Kilmer has officially announced he’s in the “Top Gun” sequel. He added that he’s “looking forward to working with Tom (Cruise), Joe (Kosinski) and Jerry (Bruckheimer), all such unique pros.” It’s unclear how the film will address Kilmer’s current health woes, including the fact that he has difficulty speaking. It was also recently announced that Miles Teller will be playing the son of the late Nick ‘Goose’ Bradshaw. “Top Gun: Maverick” is scheduled for release in July, 2019.

★ Ashley Greene and Paul Khoury are married. The “Twilight” actress and the Australian TV personality tied the knot on Friday in San Jose. Greene and Khoury wed in front of guests and famous friends including Liam Hemsworth, Zac Efron, Rob Pattinson, Brittany Snow, Lauren and Aaron Paul, and Evan and Ashlee Simpson-Ross.

★ Russell Crowe apparently has his own set of standards when it comes to what kind of movie he considers worthy of his talent. Rob Liefeld, the comic book writer of ‘Deadpool’ revealed in an interview that Crowe harshly turned down a role in the movie because he felt it – or rather the way he was asked – was insulting to his integrity. It wasn’t the character that bothered Russell, it was the fact that a director suggested he would need to audition for a part.

★ Keri Russell is being eyed for a role in ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’, although details of her character have not yet been revealed. Her role calls for action-heavy fight scenes, which is believed to have pushed casting directors toward Russell because of her experience with tough stunts in the FX show “The Americans” and the movie “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes”.
-ContactMusic
★ Steve Ditko, the comic book artist who helped Stan Lee create Marvel superheroes like Spider-Man and Doctor Strange, has died at the age of 90 in New York. Ditko was the creative force behind Spider-Man’s red and blue costume, as well as his web shooting mechanism.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Katy Perry – Is allowing the woman who tried to keep her out of her dream home off the hook for part of the millions she owes to the singer. Dana Hollister interfered with the sale of a former convent to Perry because the nuns did not approve of the singer’s image. Perry and the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Los Angeles have reached a settlement with Hollister to reduce her court-ordered $15 million in damages to a mere $6.5 million.
• Halsey – After announcing her split with G-East last week, she broke into tears on stage on Friday while singing ‘Sorry’ at the Common Ground Music Festival in Lansing, Michigan. While singing the lyrics, “Someone will love you/ But someone isn’t me,” she paused and starting sobbing for a moment before continuing.
• Big Sugar — Bassist Garry Lowe died on Saturday at 65 after a 2-year battle with cancer.  The Jamaica native joined Big Sugar in 1994.  He had also recently appeared on stage with former Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson.
• Elton John – After U.S. President Donald Trump mocked North Korean leader Kim Jong-un by calling him “Rocket Man” last year, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo gifted Kim with a CD containing the Elton song of the same name during their meetings on the weekend. During their June meetings, when the “Rocket Man” incident came up, Trump reportedly asked Kim if he had ever heard the song, and Kim said he hadn’t.
• Elvis Costello – Has canceled the remaining 6 dates on his European tour after undergoing surgery for a “small but very aggressive” cancerous tumor. The 63-year-old said in a statement that he initially thought “normal service had been resumed” but now realizes he needs more time to rest.
• Bruce Springsteen – Has officially released his 1978 performance at Los Angeles’ Roxy to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the legendary gig. While the July 7th, 1978 concert was widely bootlegged, “The Roxy West Hollywood, CA” has been newly mixed and mastered as part of Springsteen’s ongoing archival live series.
• Neil Young – His solo acoustic concert in Detroit on Friday night didn’t go as planned when a few rowdies disrupted things by yelling throughout the show, as if they were attending one of Young’s raucous electric shows with Crazy Horse. From the stage, Young told those who yelled song titles at him “You can keep shouting them, but I’m never going to play any of them.”
• Miranda Lambert – Says that working with her Pistol Annies cohorts Ashley Monroe and Angaleena Presley makes her “more brave”. She says being in a band situation is a “relief,” taking off some of the pressure that comes with writing solo. “It’s fun. It’s a slumber party with songwriting.”
• Wes Cook Band – Facebook has admitted to making an error after rejecting an ad for their patriotic song. It became big news after the group protested when Facebook rejected the group’s request to pay to “boost” a video for ‘I Stand for the Flag’, saying it contained political content. The group says the message of the song is “unity & patriotism”.

SCAREDY-DOG:
Now that the big fireworks occasions are over in Canada and the U.S., we are learning a few things. A study found that of all threatening noises, fireworks are the scariest to our beloved four-legged friends. Norwegian researchers surveyed 5,000 dog owners about their pets’ sensitivity to noise. They asked about four different noise categories: heavy traffic, thunderstorms, fireworks, and gunshots. 21% of dogs were said to “show signs of being fearful” during fireworks, compared to the 14% that were afraid of gunshots, and 10% that were scared of thunderstorms or heavy traffic. Other studies have shown that upwards of half of all dogs are fearful of the sound of fireworks. The other scary new info about fireworks and pets? In the U.S., July 5 is traditionally the busiest day for animal shelters. Why? Because of all the frightened pets who escape their homes in a panic on the 4th.
(Do we really want to do this to our “best friend”?)
(At least we know in time for NEXT year…)

A NEW WORD FOR ‘STUPID-TIRED’:
If sleeping is supposed to be so restful, why do I always feel so groggy when I wake up? And for that matter, for a few hours after I wake up? The short answer? ‘Sleep inertia’. Sleep scientist Daniel Gartenberg says sleep inertia is due to a lack of blood flow to the brain when we first wake up. Yes, it takes a while for the brain to kick into gear. When your brain “kicks back into gear”, that is actually a gradual increase in your cerebral blood flow. Sleep inertia can last for as long as two hours. That’s why you get that groggy feeling, and if you’re sleep deprived, it’s going to be worse. Waking up while in deep sleep also causes your sleep inertia to seem worse. How can you avoid it? Get enough sleep. Barring that, get an alarm app that wakes you gradually. And don’t use the snooze button.
(Two hours? At the 2-our mark, my sleep inertia is just getting warmed up!)
(And this, boys and girls, is why God created coffee.)
(In my mind, the best thing to do is try to sleep it off!)
(What causes sleep inertia? It’s Monday. And I woke up.)

THAT’S A BIG PAIR OF PANTS:
Every once in a while, some designer comes up with a wild new take on jeans. Acid-wash. Ultra-ripped. Jorts. Clear-knees. Extendo Pants. Extendo pants? Yup. Created by New York-based underground streetwear brand, Bronze 56k, Extendo Pants are like an average pair of bleach-wash jeans except they come in a super long length. How long? Not 30 inches, not 34 inches. How about 105 inches? That’d be nine FEET! The legs are nine feet long! How do you wear these things? Just like any pants, you put them on one leg at a time. And pull and pull and pull until they’re all scrunched up in wrinkles on your legs…then you put on some pretty substantial shoes. How much? Only $500. And the company reports that at this point, they’re sold out.
LINK: THIS is what they look like
(How much for ‘big and tall’ sizes?)
(Perfect for stilt-walkers!)

PEANUT BUTTER HACKS:
✓ Dog shower: If your dog hates getting washed, create a distraction. Smear peanut butter on the shower wall and you should be able to wash Doggo in the time it takes for him to lick it all off. (But please know, if there is some left over, you’ll never get him out of there…)
✓ Leather cleaner: Put a small amount of peanut butter (creamy, not chunky) on a soft cloth, then use a circular motion to wipe the spot on your couch or chair. The natural oils dissolve the spot and shine the leather.
✓ Bug Repellent: Mix 2-teaspoons peanut butter with 1-teaspoon borax and 1/2-teaspoon baking soda. Put it where you see ants coming in your home, but be sure to keep pets away. (Got anything for teenagers?)
✓ Fix squeaks: Peanut butter’s natural oils work as a decent substitute for WD-40. If you have squeaky hinges, just apply a bit and wipe it clean.
✓ Remove a sticky mess: If you spill or drip some glue, or find gum stuck in the carpet, rub a little peanut butter on the spot. The natural oils will help loosen the gunk so you’ll be able to wipe the area clean with a cloth. Same with glue residue from stickers.
✓ Mouse Bait: Better than cheese as bait in a mousetrap. Keep your pets away from this one, too. (You could say this is another way that you can use P.B. to fix squeaks!)
✓ Ice Cream Cone Sealant: If you’re having an ice cream party and find some of the cones have cracks, smear some peanut butter on the inside of the cone to help them stay together. The ice cream won’t drip from the bottom and the bottom of the cone will be a tasty surprise. (BEST. HACK. EVER.)
(As far as I’m concerned, the person who decided to add peanut butter to cookies should be knighted!)
