Good Morning, Sheetheads!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Today 84-year-old actor William Shatner is embarking on a different sort of ‘star trek’, setting off across America on a 3-wheeled motorcycle in support of military veterans. The 8-day journey with members of the American Legion is a collaboration with motorcycle builder American Wrench. Shatner partnered with American Wrench designers to create the new Rivet motorcycle. The trip is designed to raise awareness of the Legion’s work by traveling 2,400 miles (3,860 km), starting in Aurora, Illinois and finishing up in Los Angeles on June 30th.

★ Love her or hate her, the girl’s got the power! Taylor Swift wrote a blog post aimed at Apple Music on Sunday to explain that she is withholding her latest album “1989” from the new service. She’s unhappy with plans to give customers a 90-day free trial … during which artists and songwriters would receive nothing for streams of their music. Her letter, which garnered online support from the likes of Christina Perri, Elvis Costello, and Jack Antonoff, has apparently caught the attention of Apple Music and it’s now changing their payment plan so that artists will be compensated during the upcoming trial.

★ Other things we need Taylor Swift to make Apple fix …
• Longer cables for everything.
• A better battery on the iPhone.
• Something worth watching on Apple TV.
• Less smashable screens.

★ And “Modern Family” actress Sofia Vergara (jokingly?) threatened to leave her fiancé Joe Manganiello if he refused to get medical attention after tearing a tendon while shooting the new “Magic Mike” movie sequel. The former “True Blood” actor reprises his role as ‘Big Dick Richie’ in “Magic Mike XXL” (out July 1st), but popped a bicep and tore a tendon after an energetic dance sequence went awry. Manganiello fought through the pain to finish the day’s shoot but when he got back to his trailer, Sofia closed the door and said, ‘If I see you at the f—ing gym tomorrow, we’re done! I’m going to f—ing leave you!”

BOT CAN BE BOUGHT:
‘Pepper’, the humanoid robot that its makers say can recognize and respond to human emotions, has gone on sale this week in Japan. Featuring more than 20 motors and highly articulated arms, it’s being touted as a household bot for family use or for assisting the elderly. SoftBank, the company behind the robot, is planning to release 1,000 of the bots every month. They’re selling for a little over $1,500 or can be rented to businesses for $12-an-hour. Although the up-front price is relatively cheap for a sophisticated robot (SoftBank is actually selling it below manufacturing costs), customers also have to pay monthly service fees circa $200 and sign a contract for up to 3 years. So far, there are 100 apps available to download on the device. No date has yet been set for when ‘Pepper’ will go on sale outside of Japan. (Which household chore would you most appreciate a bot taking over?)

SUPERHUMAN THINGS YOU DIDN’T KNOW YOUR BODY COULD DO:
• Anticipate Excitement – In a study, scientists have found that seconds before volunteers are shown frightening or salacious images, their heart rates preemptively increase.
• Bring the Heat – Studies have proven that people in freezing conditions can increase body temperature by using breathing technique while envisioning flames in certain parts of the body.
• Predict Weather – When barometric pressure drops due to inclement weather, it causes the tissue in joints to expand. If you’ve got weak joints or arthritis, you’ll be extra sensitive to this.
• Regrow Fingertips – Fingertips contain similar cells to fingernails called ‘nail stem cells’ that possess the ability to regenerate quickly. You can’t grow your fingerprints back, but you can regrow the tips.
• Super Strength – It’s been called ‘hysterical strength’ and it occurs when something frightens you, causing a surge of adrenaline that brings oxygen and glucose to the muscles.
• Swim Naturally – Babies are born with the natural urge to hold their breath and the swimming reflex, prompting them to move arms & legs in a synchronized motion. These natural abilities disappear after about 6 months of age.
• Switch to Slo-mo – During traumatic events, time seems to move in slow-motion as your brain, under duress, bypasses normal functions to allow swift reaction. Your brain going faster makes everything else seem slower.

FAST FOOD COUTURE:
‘McFashion’ is getting beefed up! In March, McDonald’s introduced a new fashion & lifestyle collection. The first items released included pajamas, raincoats, wallpaper, and bedsheets. Now the company is offering a new Summer line of cheeseburger-themed tents, sleeping bags, rain boots, and board shorts. As with the first group of products, some of the profits go to Ronald McDonald House Charities. The online ‘Big Mac Shop’ originally only shipped to Sweden. Now it also covers Australia, Canada, Europe, and the USA, meaning almost everyone can have a bite of the new line. The Swedes, though, are taking their love for the Golden Arches to the next level. A Big Mac showroom just opened in Stockholm. (When you think of fashion plates, Ronald McDonald comes immediately to mind, no?)

DID YOU KNOW?
Although dogs are notorious for looking like they are ashamed of something they’ve done, according to scientists that is not at all the case. As cute as it looks, your dog isn’t feeling what you think it is. It’s just your own emotions being reflected back at you.
