Sheet For Brains!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ The family of late comedian/actor Chris Farley has filed a lawsuit against Trek Bicycle for naming its fat-tired bikes ‘Farley’, saying the bike company misappropriated Farley’s name and traded on his “fat guy” brand of comedy. The lawsuit alleges Trek chose the name Farley “to immediately associate their fat bikes with one of their favorite ‘fat’ and ‘loud’ comedians,” and the company’s executives knew what they were doing when they made the decision.
(Maybe they shouldn’t have used the tagline: “Great for riding…DOWN BY THE RIVER!”)

★ The last living munchkin from the “The Wizard of Oz” has died. Jerry Maren passed away last week at the age of 98. He died at a nursing home in San Diego, California, having reportedly suffered from dementia. Maren played the green-clad member of the Lollipop Guild, and had the honor of handing a lolly to Dorothy in the 1939 film.
-TheSun
★ He still has frozen water in his veins. Val Kilmer is returning to his iconic role as ‘Iceman’ in the second “Top Gun” movie, alongside Tom Cruise.  The sequel’s plot line, featuring Tom Cruise, has yet to be revealed, but Kilmer has been spotted in the San Diego hotel headquarters where “Top Gun: Maverick” is underway. The movie is slated to hit theaters on July 12, 2019.
(Looks like he was serious when he told Maverick that “You can be my wing man anytime!”)
-MSN
★ Word has it that Jared Leto is set to star in a standalone movie about the Joker. Leto played the iconic Batman villain in “Suicide Squad” in 2016. As well as taking on the lead role, insiders say that the Oscar winner will act as an executive producer on the film, which is currently without a title.
(But I bet I can make a pretty good guess!)
-Canoe
★ A prequel to the classic children’s film “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory” is currently in the works, and Donald Glover is among the names currently on the shortlist for the lead role. Ezra Miller and Ryan Gosling are also said to be in the running to play the younger incarnation of the eccentric chocolate factory owner, who was first depicted by Gene Wilder in the 1971 film.
The movie is thought to follow the chocolate-maker’s earliest adventures such as meeting the Oompa-Loompas and how he managed to score such an impressive establishment.

THIS TASTES LIKE WATER:
You know how some people claim that this bottled water tastes better than that one? Or how they say they can tell if the water comes from a city water system or if it is sourced from a fresh spring? Scientists have long wondered whether water has a taste of its own or if it is just a transporting system for other flavors like saltiness or sweetness. Well, new research is suggesting that we may have specific taste receptors designed for just that purpose: to taste water. That would give us a sixth taste receptor, in addition to the already-known profiles: salty, sweet, sour, bitter, and umami — aka savory. The research, carried out on mice at the University of California, showed that these receptor cells play a crucial role in helping animals taste water, and to determine if it is good to drink.
(I don’t know that I’ve ever been able to taste water. But then, I’ve never been accused of having good taste!)
(If I wanted water, I’d ask for water!)
(I know my Dasani tastes awful, but I like the bottles!)

SLACKING OFF ON GOING OUT:
I don’t know what your plans are for tonight, but there is a good chance there are the same as mine: Not much. A new report by Mintel shows that 55% of us prefer getting our drink on in the comfort of our own home. And maybe surprisingly, even millennials tend to agree. 28 percent of young adults aged 24 to 31 told researchers that they prefer to sip alcohol at home because “it takes too much effort to go out.” And let’s face it, if you stay in, you don’t have to get all dressed up, you don’t have to wait for a table, flag a bartender’s attention, or worry about a ride home. About a third (35 percent) said sipping wine or cracking open a couple of cold beers together at home is also better way to catch up with friends, as opposed to shouting across a table at a bar or restaurant. Millennials are currently leading the way when it comes to socializing in the home, but experts say the preference for at-home drinking will likely be even greater among the up-and-coming iGeneration, who are generally regarded as more frugal and pragmatic than Millennials.
(And you know, don’t like having to look up from their phones…)
(I love a night in…for all those reasons…plus, I’m cheap!)
(Yeah, as soon as my kids start staying in on Saturday nights, that’s when I start going out!)

HOW TO KEEP YOUR BED COOL THIS SUMMER:
✓ Keep things cool in the day: You’ll stay cooler at night if you keep it as cool as possible during the day. During the mornings and evenings, open windows to let air flow through your home. In afternoon, (or before you leave for work), close the windows and pull down the blinds to keep the cool air in and the hot summer sun out. (I’m guessing this is an “I don’t have A/C” scenario…)
✓ Make a ‘Swamp Cooler’: Spray a sheet with cold water and hang it in front of an open window. Pick a window that has a breeze coming in.
✓ Create another: Put a bowl of ice in front of a fan. (During a heat wave, I’m betting that my ice cubes will already have been spoken for!)
✓ Cool you instead of your home: If you can’t cool your home down, cool your body down with a cold shower right before bed. That can help lower your body temperature enough for you to fall asleep comfortably.
✓ Go all Willie Nelson: If all else fails, wet a bandana in cold water, wring it out, fold it into a rectangle, and drape it over your neck. Having something cool that close to your major blood vessels will help cool your whole body. (And your spouse will be SO impressed when you come to bed wearing a bandana. Just a bandana…)
✓ The big fan: If you have a ceiling fan, make sure you’ve switched it to its “summer” setting. Ceiling fans have two settings. In summer, they should move counter-clockwise.
✓ Hydrate: Drink a glass of cool, refreshing water—even though you may have to get up in the middle of the night to ‘unhydrate’, it’s way better than waking up all warm, headachy and dehydrated.
(Also, ditch the flannel Pjs for a while!)
