BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Ezra Miller, who stars in the upcoming DC film “The Flash” and the upcoming “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore,” was arrested in Hilo, Hawaii on Monday morning. Police say they responded to a report of a disorderly bar patron, and determined that the agitator had become unruly and had begun “yelling obscenities.” Miller allegedly “grabbed the microphone from a woman singing karaoke and later lunged at a man playing darts.” He was charged with disorderly conduct and harassment, and released on $500 bail. His arrest comes at an awkward time for Warner Bros., as Miller plays a key role in its upcoming “Harry Potter” spin-off film, which is set premiere in April.

★ It looks like talent runs all through the Obama family. Donald Glover has tapped Barack and Michelle’s eldest daughter, Malia as a writer on an upcoming series, and is already praising the former First Daughter’s skills. He explained that “she’s just like, an amazingly talented person. She’s really focused, and she’s working really hard.” Glover reportedly enlisted the 23-year-old Harvard grad to share her experiences for his new Amazon series that’s potentially titled “Hive”, a show seemingly about a Beyoncé-like character.

★ Almost 25 years after it became a box office smash, the Brit comedy “The Full Monty” — about a group of unemployed steelworkers turned amateur strippers — is returning as a TV series. It will follow the original band of brothers, including star Robert Carlyle, as they navigate the post-industrial city of Sheffield and the crumbling health care, education and employment sectors. The series will explore the brighter, sillier and more humane way forward where communal effort can still triumph over adversity. Whether there’ll be any stripping involved, we’re not sure. The 8-episode series will premiere on Disney+ globally, and Hulu.

★ Will Smith and Chris Rock got into a physical altercation during the 2022 Oscars (maybe you heard?), and Jake Paul is ready to make a boxing match happen. On Twitter, he was asked how much he was going to offer Rock and Smith for a boxing pay-per-view match. It didn’t take long for the YouTube star to reply: “I got $15m for Will Smith and $15m for Chris Rock ready to go. Let’s do it in August on my undercard.” Paul followed that tweet up with another one saying: “Someone get me on the phone with Will Smith’s boxing representative asap.” (All I can say is: If you thought this was staged, then you haven’t seen Chris Rock act!)

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Taylor Swift – will receive an honorary doctorate in fine arts from New York University in May, and will also deliver the commencement speech at Yankee Stadium. The buzz about the 11-time Grammy winner giving the graduation address led Swift’s name to top Google search trends on Monday, and the phrase “Dr. Swift” trended on Twitter.
• Billie Eilish – her Academy Award, along with her brother Finneas, for Best Original Song made Oscars history. Eilish is now the youngest artist to win an Oscar, a Grammy, and a Golden Globe for the same song. She also became the first Oscar winner born in the 2000s.
• Halestorm — has announced its summer 2022 US tour with special guests The Pretty Reckless. The 16-city trek kicks off on July 8 in Detroit, and wraps Aug. 12 in Norfolk VA.
• Roxy Music – have announced their first tour in 11 years. The dates will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the group’s 1972 self-titled debut album. The tour will span 13 arenas in North America and 3 in the UK, beginning Sept. 7 in Toronto. St. Vincent will be the opening act.
• Kacey Musgraves – She, along with Willie Nelson and Family, and Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, will headline the inaugural Palomino Festival, July 9, in Pasadena CA. The event is the brainchild of Goldenvoice, the promotors behind the Coachella and Stagecoach festivals.
• Carrie Underwood – brought her mom Carole on stage Saturday to sing ‘All-American Girl’ with her during her return to the Resorts World Theatre to continue her Vegas residency. In a social media post later, Underwood gave her mom credit for her success, explaining it was her who encouraged her to audition for Season 4 of “American Idol” in 2004. TRAIN THE BRAIN:
Exercise. Either you love it, or you need to hear this. A new study of the brain’s signaling networks indicates that it is possible for you to learn to ENJOY a trip to the gym. The study, published in the journal Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, says that if you can stick with an exercise routine through a few initially unpleasant weeks, you’ll eventually learn to love working out, thanks to long-term adaptations in how your brain processes mood-altering chemicals. Finnish researchers found in a study of 64 volunteers that not only does your body adapt to a new exercise routine, so too does your brain — although with one caveat: The scientists also admitted “there’s a huge variation between individuals in these responses, and not all people find exercise pleasant or rewarding.”
(Although, just like smashing your forehead on a wall, we can all agree that it feels good when you stop!)
(How long does it take to start enjoying exercise? Apparently longer than I’ve ever been able to keep a New Year’s resolution!)

CRITICISM SCHISM:
Everyone likes to hear a nice compliment, but who wants honest criticism? Surprisingly, a lot of us. Research by the American Psychological Association found that most people underestimate just how much others appreciate and desire constructive criticism that could improve their performance. Earlier studies have concluded that we tend to hold our tongue over fear of confrontation, rudeness, and “negative outcomes.” But in a series of experiments, the researchers found that not only did participants underestimate how much the other person wanted constructive feedback, but the more important or consequential the feedback, the more likely people were to believe the other person didn’t want to hear what they had to say. The scientists concluded: “Even if you feel hesitant to give feedback, we recommend that you give it…imagine you’re in the other person’s shoes and ask yourself if you would want feedback…most likely you would”.
(Uh…I guess I should say ‘Thanks for the tip’?)

ALL MY ROWDY FRIENDS:
Over 40 dogs made a splash in Caracas, at the Venezuelan capital’s first canine pool party on Sunday. With pandemic restrictions easing, cafes and restaurants are livelier now, and pet care providers are getting in on the act, too. Veterinarian Otto Alvarado, who has been operating Pet Suites Hotel for 10 years, said that with things improving, it was time for the dogs to have a chance to socialize as well. The hotel, which costs $13 a day for a morning walk and playtime in the pool, hosted 42 pets for the shindig. Alvarado manages the hotel on a 1,200 square meter (12,900-square feet) grassy lot, with a staff of 6. During Venezuela’s 8-year economic collapse, many people couldn’t afford to keep their pets, and were forced to leave them in shelters. Now, with things looking better for people and for their pooches, the party place for pets, which can accommodate up to 100 dogs, is fully booked during holiday periods like Easter and Christmas. Another pool party is planned for April.
(That’s ALL I need. Just like my kids at daycare, my dog would cry when I came to pick him up. What? Just me?)

No matter what your job is, it likely requires some form of expertise. Here are some things you should know from the people who do know. Or maybe you shouldn’t . . .
☞ Bridges aren’t attached on both sides: They’re traditionally pinned on one side (using 2 super-pins), and rest unfixed at the other end. This helps avoid additional stress as the bridge flexes, or expands/contracts with temperature change.
☞ Airplanes are fixed with duct tape: They develop cracks. It happens. If in a non-critical area, standard procedure is to put some fancy duct tape over it until a repair can be done.
☞ People get hacked, not the device: Most hacking is done by tricking the user, not the computer. This includes credit card hacks.
☞ No website or app really stores your password: That’s why they can’t show or email your password to you. They do a 1-way scrambling of your password, and store that.
☞ Don’t get married near Valentine’s Day: The flowers will be twice the cost, and half the quality. When buying roses, if the head feels squishy, it’s no good.
☞ Your home lock is easy to pick: Most people could be taught to pick it in 15 minutes.
☞ Don’t rinse after brushing: Don’t use mouthwash, either. Just spit, and leave the rest of the fluoride on your teeth for more protection.
☞ Collision coverage isn’t always worth it: If your car is 10+ years old, collision is generally a lose-lose proposition. It can double your cost, and in an accident, your car will probably be totalled anyway. (They must have seen my teen driving!)

A leading climate scientist believes that humanity’s days are numbered. Although it may not come within our lifetime, barring some unforeseen event, the global population could begin to see the start of an inevitable decline as soon as the end of this century, argues palaeontologist Henry Gee, in a Scientific American article. He feels that a lack of genetic variation, falling birth rates, pollution, and stress caused by living in overcrowded cities are a recipe for disaster, and humanity is fast approaching a point where even radical change will not be sufficient to halt our species’ rapid decline. He writes: “The signs are already there for those willing to see them. The real question is ‘How fast?’” (On a more positive note, uh…the weekend is coming?)
