We’ve Got Our Sheet Together!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Roseanne Barr says she had a ”complete nervous breakdown” following her Twitter scandal. As you know, she was on the receiving end of a huge backlash after posting a racist tweet which resulted in her sitcom “Roseanne” being cancelled.  Barr says that at one point, she wasn’t able to get out of bed or speak “or think either”.  She claims she was given 48 hours to sign away the rights to her show or she’d be sued, and “They cancelled the show before one sponsor pulled out, which is unheard of.” Barr previously blamed the sleeping medication Ambien for her controversial tweet and says she no longer uses the medication since the scandal.

★ Mark Hamill has got “Star Wars” fans all abuzz after sharing a photo on Twitter. On Sunday, he posted a photo of himself hugging co-star Harrison Ford during the recent ceremony that saw him awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Hamill captioned the pic: “What a Han/Luke reunion might have been like…”, which is a reference to the demise of Ford’s “Star Wars” character, Han Solo, at the end of “The Force Awakens,” and the fact that Luke never had the chance to see Han before his death.

★ Jennie Garth is defending herself after being blasted for not using her social media accounts to pay tribute to the late Luke Perry. She posted on Instagram on Friday for the first time since her co-star passed away, but was criticized for sharing a photo of her three daughters. She wrote: ”Hey everyone … I chose to post a pic of my girls today. Because they are my life. Because today is a day to celebrate all women. It took a lot for me to want to celebrate anything. I thought about it and I know that’s the way my dear friend would have wanted it. ‘His kids were his life.” She went on to write that her “heart is broken” about the loss of a “very special person”

★ Julie Andrews, the star of classic movies such as “Mary Poppins” and “The Sound of Music”, will be honoured with the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 76th edition of Venice Film Festival. The award will be presented to 83-year-old Andrews during the festival, which runs from August 28 September 7.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Marshmello – His spring Las Vegas residency will be a ”one-of-a-kind show”, according to the General Manager of Palms Casino Resort.  Jon Gray says, ”This isn’t just a guy who comes in with the same set list and presses play – he’s creating a show with great visuals, pyrotechnics and all the technology in the space. This is not a DJ set. This is a real concert.”
• Nicki Minaj – For the second time in two months, she cancelled a concert at the last minute. She was scheduled to perform in Bordeaux, France on Saturday, but couldn’t due to “lack of electricity”. Some fans responded by chanting “Cardi B! Cardi B!” as the arena was emptying.
• Justin Bieber – has shared the latest with his fans concerning his struggle with depression. On the weekend, he posted: “Been struggling a lot. Just feeling super disconnected and weird.” About a month ago, he began receiving treatment to ensure his mental well-being.
• John Lennon — Filmmaker Michael Epstein says he couldn’t believe his luck when Yoko Ono gave him access to hours of forgotten footage of her life with Lennon. The footage, from home videos shot at the couple’s homes in England and in New York in 1970 and 1971, is featured in “John & Yoko: Above Us Only Sky”, which aired for the first time yesterday.
• Elton John – will release his “first and only autobiography” later this year.  He confirmed the release of his memoir on his official Twitter account, writing “I’m now ready to tell you my story, in my own words.” The book will be released in October.  No title has been announced.
• Kacey Musgraves — will have her own exhibit in 2019 at Nashville’s Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. It will debut on July 3 and will focus on her musical journey, which began in the ’90s in Golden, TX.  Other upcoming exhibits include Brooks & Dunn and Keith Whitley.
• Brad Paisley – shared video of a song called ‘My Miracle’ which he wrote for his wife Kimberly Williams Paisley.  He wrote: “Who is your miracle?” “Here’s a lil’ song for mine.” Fan reaction showed that he clearly should consider releasing it as a single.

THIS WEEK’S VIDEO RELEASES:
• “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” (PG-13, Action/Adventure):  Grindelwald has escaped custody and has set about his plan to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings. In an effort to thwart him, Dumbledore enlists his former student Newt Scamander. (Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston)
• “Second Act” (PG-13, Comedy/Romance):  A 40-year-old woman struggles with frustrations from unfulfilled dreams until she gets the chance to prove to Madison Avenue that street smarts are as valuable as book smarts, and that it is never too late for a Second Act. (Jennifer Lopez, Vanessa Hudgens, Leah Remini)
• “A.I. Rising” (R-Rated, Drama):  An intimate relationship between a human and an android tests the boundaries of human nature. (Sebastian Cavazza, Stoya)
• “The Last Man” (R-Rated, Action/Adventure):  A combat veteran with PTSD and hallucinations, fortifies his home and builds a secret underground shelter due to doomsday-like weather changes. He gets a security job to pay for it and his boss’ cute daughter for company. (Hayden Christensen, Harvey Keitel)

HOSPITAL LINE BLING:
The traditional hospital I.D. bracelet may soon be replaced, and the new model won’t be a bracelet at all. A number of replacements are being considered…one involves an adhesive strip called “the Shield” which serves the same purpose as a bracelet but can be placed anywhere on a patient’s body.  The strip, which would normally be placed on a patient’s foot or arm, is wider than a traditional hospital bracelet, which makes it easier to read and reduces the risk of mistakes.   Another possible replacement is the use of temporary cosmetic ink that prints patient information directly on the patient’s skin.  Why replace bracelets at all? They can reportedly collect harmful germs, and they can be difficult to read, leading to errors.  And patients don’t like wearing them.
(And they never hesitate to point that out to their nurse…repeatedly!)
(Place it anywhere?  Somebody’s going to have some fun with that!)
(I’m fine with whatever they come up with, as long as it doesn’t take a team of two and a set of garden shears to cut it off after you’re discharged!)

THINGS THAT ARE TURNING 50 IN 2019:
✓ Sesame Street
✓ Firebird Trans Am
✓ Woodstock
✓ The Gap
✓ Wendy’s
✓ Neil Diamond’s ‘Sweet Caroline’
✓ The Brady Bunch
✓ The Automated Teller Machine
✓ Tic Tacs
✓ Scooby Doo
– MentalFloss

MOST COMMONLY REGRETTED PURCHASES:
✗ Pet health insurance: Usually costs more than you spend on pet medical bills
✗ Unused gym memberships:  Even a great deal can be a bad one if you don’t go to the gym.  (Be like me and buy home gym equipment so you can NOT use it there…)
✗ Juicer: Many get used twice before being stored away in the pantry…or garage.  (Funny that I don’t have room for a juicer in the kitchen, but my margarita mixer sits right there beside the sink!)
✗ Hot tub:  Sounds great, but it costs a lot of money and time to maintain it…and how often will you use it after the novelty wears off? (Don’t tell this to my neighbor, please!)
✗ Boat:  Costs of docking, “summerizing” and all the extras just aren’t worth it for most.  (Plus, the BIG extra…a cottage!)
✗ Extended warranty:  Most of the time, they go unused.  So, unless it is for an essential piece of tech that you need for your career, don’t bother.  (Isn’t this pretty much the same thing as pet health insurance?)
✗ Fancy coffee machine:  It makes coffee.  If you think you need an espresso machine, consider how often you’ll use it and if you have room for it.  (And ask yourself if you know how to say “espresso” correctly…)
✗ Expensive wedding:  You may spend the next few years wondering what else you could have spent all that money on. (Unless Mommy and Daddy are paying…then have at ‘er!)
✗ Collectible items:  Once you are over the thrill of spending a small fortune on a one-of-a-kind item, you really won’t get much use out of it.  (Aside from boring your company…)
✗ Virtual assistants:  This could change as the technology develops and people adapt to them, but many early adopters report that they regret purchasing them. (But they’re afraid to say it out loud…)
✗ “As Seen on TV” products:  There is a reason those gadgets that claim to solve a problem are hawked on infomercials rather than sold at Walmart…because you don’t need them.  (But if I call now, I get a second one free!)

DID YOU KNOW?
A 116-year-old Japanese woman has been officially recognized as the world’s oldest person.  Kane Tanaka received the honor in an official Guinness World Records ceremony held at her nursing home in Fukuoka.  When asked during the event what her favorite memory was, she responded: “This right now.”  She indicates that the honor has been a dream of hers since she was 100.
(That and hang-gliding…)
