More From the Sheethouse!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Nathan Fillion is sending his gratitude to a Costco employee in Edmonton who did a big solid for a very special person in his life. He took to Twitter to share this heartwarming story: “The other day in Canada, a woman buying gas at a Costco had trouble with her credit card. The attendant bought her gas out of his own pocket and asked only that she pay it forward…That attendant was Les Thompson, and Les? That woman was my mother.” Fillion wrote: “You restore my faith in humanity, sir. My dad and I are sending three iPads and headphones to a nearby senior care facility so that folks there can visit with their families. Right now, we could all stand to be a little less afraid, and a little more Les.”

★ Bryce Dallas Howard has finally graduated from New York University — 21 years after first enrolling there. She took to her Instagram page to mark the momentous occasion, while also celebrating the graduates of the ‘Nine Muses’ program, which she teaches at the university. She wrote: “I am so overcome with joy to share that I have officially graduated from NYU!!” She first enrolled in undergrad in ’99, then took a leave of absence work as an actor.

★ The “Gossip Girl” reboot has been delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The much-anticipated new version of the drama series – which starred Blake Lively, Leighton Meester and Penn Badgley – was supposed to be released on HBO Max later this year, but it’s been delayed until 2021 because of the health crisis. The makers of the show have also confirmed that the reboot will take place eight years after the events of the original series.

★ David Beckham has reportedly been buying tubs of Big Mac Special Sauce on eBay during lockdown. He and his wife Victoria have been isolating at their English mansion, and they’ve decided to spice up their lockdown experience by having the tasty dip delivered to them. Apparently, they’ve ordered enough to “keep them going for a while” McDonald’s launched the dip earlier this year.

THE OTHER CADBURY SECRET:
Cadbury has finally answered the ages-old question of whether or not chocolate should be stored in the cupboard or the fridge. It seems some people like their chocolate cold, giving it a snap-like effect when they eat it. And others prefer it to melt-in-the-mouth (and to be easier on the teeth, too). The answer? According to Cadbury, chocolate should be kept in the cupboard. When asked the question on Twitter, the chocolate-maker responded: “Chocolate should always be stored in a slightly cool, dry, dark place such as cupboard or pantry at temperatures less than 21°C to ensure the quality isn’t compromised.”
(Like there’s ever a chance to STORE chocolate! Or is that just in my house?)
(Note: If you like those cheap little chocolate eggs,: Fridge, no fridge…it’s not going to make a difference!)
(I suppose next you’re going to tell me that you can leave the butter on the counter!!)

CORONA: TWO MORE THINGS TO WORRY ABOUT:
➢ With the weather heating up, there have been a number of warnings posted about the supposed risks of hand sanitizer containers exploding if left in a hot car. Doctors at Alberta Health Services say people shouldn’t leave it in their cars for too long because it could lead to a fire. And the National Fire Protection Association in the US issued a warning about the possibility, although it noted there must be an ignition source for a fire to occur. It said spontaneous combustion is highly unlikely unless a vehicle were to reach extreme temperatures. But experts still say you should store the stuff in a console or glove box to keep it away from direct sunlight, just in case.
➢ Now the next question: Will hot temperatures render hand sanitizer ineffective? Jamie Alan, an assistant professor of pharmacology and toxicology at Michigan State University, says that hand sanitizer is dependent on the amount of ethanol content. And if enough ethanol [a form of alcohol] evaporates, the concentration could drop to one that is ineffective against the virus. While the interior of your car can reach 157 degrees (F) on a very hot day, alcohol boils at 173 degrees. So, while unlikely, if you live in an especially hot area, it’s not impossible. But if your hand sanitizer did reach that temperature, you’d know it: Your sanitizer would look different or the cap would pop off from the pressure and cause a mess.
(The same thing can happen to beer that’s left under the seat. Or so I’ve heard…)

WHAT’S THE RISK?
Here is how experts rate the risks of summer activities during the pandemic…
⇒ A BYOB gathering with one other household: low to medium risk. Hopefully the other family has been social distancing too. Avoid sharing food, drinks or utensils. (“I’d love to offer you a beer, but corona. Heh-heh-heh…”)
⇒ Eating indoors at a restaurant: medium to high risk. Because even if spacing is OK, the duration of exposure is longer. Pick a restaurant that has adapted for the pandemic. And choose outdoor dining if available.
⇒ Spending the day at a beach or pool: low risk(!!). Be sure to stay socially distanced. The water is an unlikely source of infection. The most dangerous spots may be the change rooms or washrooms. And beaches are better than pools in terms of space.
⇒ An outdoor celebration such as a wedding with more than 10 guests: medium to high risk. The danger varies greatly depending on the size of the gathering and how closely people gather. (And what are the odds that close-talking Uncle Everett is going to keep his distance?)
⇒ Staying at a hotel: low to medium risk. Limit your time in common areas such as the lobby, gym, restaurant and elevator. And bring disinfecting wipes for the TV remote control and other common surfaces. (And remove the bedspread…which you should do even if there isn’t a pandemic – Blech!!)
⇒ Going to a nightclub: high risk. Crowds, ultra-close contact, singing, sweating and inhibition-loosening alcohol are a potent cocktail of risk factors. (Body-shots are probably a bad idea at this point too…)
⇒ Going camping: low risk. You’re outdoors and isolated. What could go wrong? It’s more dangerous if you’re at a crowded campground with a shared restroom and communal picnic areas.

DID YOU KNOW?
Two in three Americans said they don’t remember the last time they wore real pants. In a survey of 2,000 Americans who currently work from home, four in five said they spend their days wearing PJs or comfy clothes. So, it should be no surprise then that seven in 10 said they much prefer working from home than heading into the office every day. (At this point, I’m not even sure whether I wear PJs all day or I sleep in my clothes…)
