Good Morning, Sheetheads!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Benedict Cumberbatch says he found it difficult to voice “The Grinch” because he had to work by himself. Cumberbatch brings the Christmas-hating character to life in the animated film – based on the 1957 Dr. Seuss book “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” – and he says that he ”got stuck on a couple of things” because as he puts it: ”I was literally in a wee booth by myself. No other cast members. It’s a very peculiar process. Which can be a little bit insane.” “The Grinch” comes out today.

★ Sacha Baron Cohen carried a “bulletproof clipboard” for protection while making his latest TV show. The British comedy star’s political satire series “Who Is America?” premiered in July and saw him disguise himself as various characters to interview politicians and other controversial figures. In the second episode, Cohen pretended to be a far-left lecturer and gave a presentation at a public meeting in Arizona where he announced that the world’s largest mosque outside of the Middle East would be built there – though he now admits that he was very concerned at the time about how the participants would react to his prank.

★ Ashton Kutcher is reportedly in line to turn his MTV prank show “Punk’d” into a movie.  Kutcher created the hidden camera series with Jason Goldberg, and from 2003 to 2007, he tormented numerous unwitting celebrities with “Candid Camera” style pranks. According to a source, ”Paramount is hungry for a new prank-based film franchise now that the ‘Jackass’ movies have run their course, and the buzz is that they’re trying to woo Ashton into participating. He’s on the verge of saying yes.”

★ “Harry Potter” author JK Rowling has launched a lawsuit against a former employee, who she says went on unauthorized spending sprees with her money totalling nearly $31,000US. Rowling claims that Amanda Donaldson broke strict working conditions and guidelines by using her money to buy cosmetics, jewellery and gifts. Among the items that accounted for the huge sum Rowling claims was taken without her “knowledge or consent” are Starbucks and Jo Malone splurges, restaurant lunches and even two cats, on top of assorted Harry Potter merchandise.

BS MUSIC NOTES:

• Migos — will play a concert celebrating the Atlanta hip-hop scene in the days leading up to the Super Bowl. Ludacris, Lil Jon, Lil Yachty, Lil Baby and Metro Boomin will also appear at the show, set for January 31.  The Super Bowl is February 3rd in Atlanta.
• Beyoncé — tried to show support for a senate candidate, but fans are calling her out for getting involved as the polls were closing. On Tuesday, she posted images while wearing a hat for Democratic senate candidate Beto O’Rourke. By then, voting was already in full swing and the polls were nearly closed in Texas.  One person wrote: “Yeah… should have spoke sooner. Too little too late.”
• Hedley — The case of frontman Jacob Hoggard, who faces three sex-related charges, has been put over for three weeks. He was not present at a brief hearing in a Toronto courtroom where the next date in his case was set for Nov. 28. He was arrested in July.
• The Rolling Stones – while rumors continue to swirl about a possible US stadium tour in 2019, which would mark their first run across the states in three years, reports are that Mick and Keith are currently working on a new EP in a New York studio.  Jagger shared a video in September of himself playing the harmonica on ”new tunes”.
• Jack White — has responded after a fan said she was asked to stop kissing her girlfriend at his Edmonton show on Nov. 2. Allyson MacIvor said she was approached by a Rogers Place employee and told “This is not allowed here”.  White shared a snap of two women kissing at a Beatles concert in 1964, with the caption:  “It’s 2018 now and two people expressing affection shouldn’t have to hide.”
• Heart – Singer Ann Wilson says that their 1977 classic ‘Barracuda’ was written “in a true rage” in response to a publicity-stunt rumor, started by Heart’s record label, that she and sister Nancy Wilson were in a sexual relationship together. She says, “I hope that that song will come in handy now when women are thinking about what they want to do and not do.”
• Chris Young – His single, ‘Hangin’ On’ has been hanging on to the No. 2 spot on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart for the last two weeks, but he’s been hanging on to the song for a lot longer than that.  He’s had it in his pocket since co-writing it more than three years ago.  It was considered for use on his 2015 album, “I’m Comin’ Over”.
• Kenny Chesney– will be downsizing (but just a bit) for his 2019 “Songs for the Saints Tour”. The trek will focus on arenas and smaller-sized venues, rather than the massive stadiums that he has been known to play. Why?  He says that it was time for a change: “strip things back a bit, and make it a little more intimate … I also love the idea of really being able to see the back of the room.”

TODAY’S MOVIE OPENINGS:
• “The Grinch” (PG, Animation/Kids):  Each year at Christmas, they disrupt his tranquil solitude with their celebrations. When the Whos declare they are going to make Christmas three times bigger this year, the Grinch realizes there is only one way for him to gain some peace and quiet: he must steal Christmas. (Rashida Jones, Benedict Cumberbatch)

(Emma Roberts, Michael Angarano)
• “Overlord” (R-Rated, Action/Adventure):  With only hours until D-Day, a team of American paratroopers drop into Nazi-occupied France to carry out a mission that’s crucial to the invasion’s success. (Jovan Adepo, Wyatt Russell)

TOO STUPID FOR US TO MAKE UP:
An Australian man has been awarded a house after 20 years of squatting.  In 1998, property developer Bill Gertos found a house sitting empty in Sydney. So, he changed the locks, repaired the property – and began leasing it to tenants.  Now, he has won a legal battle to be declared the official owner of the house – which is estimated to be worth $1.1 million U.S.  In New South Wales, AU, squatters can be awarded ownership if they have occupied a property for more than 12 years.
(I think I know a couple guys around here who own a bar and don’t even know it!)
-BBC
An 11-year-old South Carolina student was sent to his principal’s office for what the school called an “emerging hole” in his jeans — meaning a frayed spot that would soon become an actual hole.  The school called Ethan Orr’s mother Lisa, and asked her to deliver her son a new pair of pants or bring him home. As a result of the ensuing negative publicity, the district’s superintendent has ordered the section of the school dress code that prohibits emerging holes to be amended.
(There is a joke here with the word ‘holes’ in it, but I’m not going there!)
-YahooStyle
Doris Chen, a former NCAA golf champion, was disqualified from the LPGA’s qualifying tournament after her mother reportedly moved her ball.  After Chen’s drive on the 17th hole came to rest outside of the playing area, her mother, Yuh-Guey Lin, moved it back in bounds, according to witnesses.  Chen later issued an apology for hitting the ball after her mother had moved it.
(Talk about a bad lie!)

COSTCO ITEMS YOU THINK WILL SAVE YOU MONEY – BUT WON’T:
⇒ Cold Cuts and Meat:  When they go on sale at your local grocery store, there’s a good chance they’ll be cheaper than at Costco — and you can purchase it in smaller qualities.
⇒  Fruits and Veggies:  While that mega bag of grapes, broccoli, or lettuce looks like a good idea, if you don’t eat them all before they go bad, you’re throwing away your money.
⇒ Clothing:  They frequently offer one or two hugely discounted items of clothing, but that does not mean that all of the clothes sold at Costco are a similar value. (Plus they have no fitting rooms!)
⇒ Tires:  Often tires acquired by Costco are end-of-the-lot or left-over tires that were already over a year old before they got there.  Savings may be limited by the wear and tear or dry-rot potential.
⇒ Books:  You can almost always find books for less—online, or on sale.  And don’t forget about the library! (Or “borrowing” from a friend…)
⇒ Electronics:  In most cases, the price you see on TVs and other electronics at Costco is what you pay, however, that is not necessarily the case at an electronics store. You stand a better chance of negotiating with a store that specializes in electronics.
(So…what’s left??)

DID YOU KNOW?
According to the editors at Dictionary.com, the word “ironic” might be the most abused word in the English language.  And it ranks in the top 1 percent of all word lookups on Merriam-Webster’s online dictionary.
(And they don’t completely blame Alanis Morissette for it, either…)

• “Veterans’ Day” in the USA, the 100th annual observance originally called “Armistice Day”, then renamed in 1954. The day now honors all American military veterans.
• “Origami Day”, celebrating the ancient Japanese art of paper-folding. Scrunch, scrunch, scrunch, hey look what I made … it’s a flu virus!

California-based organic ice cream brand Three Twins has a “The World’s More Expensive Most Expensive Ice Cream Sundae” package that includes a sundae which has been hand-churned with glacial ice from the summit of Africa’s highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro.  Oh, and you actually got to eat it on the summit. And you get to fly there first-class and stay in a five-star hotel. And they toss in a souvenir T-shirt.
• “Singles Day” in China, begun by college students in the 1990s as a version of Valentines Day, honoring all those who’ve yet to wed. It has developed into a major shopping day for gifts to woo that special someone. It’s scheduled on 11-11 because it’s the date with the most ‘singles’.
