Another Sheetload of Bull!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Heather Locklear‘s family is so concerned about her health and well-being, they are considering going the Britney Spears route and putting her under a conservatorship after she was reportedly placed on a psychiatric hold over the weekend. Her family believes she ended her most recent rehab trip too early. Locklear wanted to be out for her daughter’s birthday — she turned 21 last month — but people noticed right away that she “seemed exactly the same.” Locklear was arrested in February for felony domestic violence and battery on a police officer.

★ Mandy Moore married “Dawes” frontman Taylor Goldsmith in a romantic ceremony in L.A. on Sunday.  The star of “This is Us” and Goldsmith tied the knot in front of friends and family in an intimate backyard wedding at the actress’ home. Moore, who began dating the musician after her split from first husband Ryan Adams in 2015, quietly confirmed their engagement by flashing an engagement ring while at an L.A. café in September 2017.

★ Danny DeVito has responded to the news that a group of college students has created a bizarre bathroom shrine devoted to him.  That’s right, hidden in a secret room, accessed through a bathroom at New York’s Purchase College is a weird shrine devoted to the worship of Danny DeVito. In a creepy dark room, hidden behind a paper-towel dispenser, the bizarre shrine pays homage to the star of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”.  After students began sharing photos and videos on social media, it went viral, and DeVito responded with typical humor, tweeting, “My heart is filled with love and garbage,” and he encouraged the students to “be kind to each other” and asked that they “pick up trash, recycle, and be aware of plastics in the ocean.”

★ Bindi Irwin has won a Guinness World Records title for being the most-followed TV conservationist on Instagram. The 20-year-old daughter of the late Steve Irwin – who passed away in 2006 when he was stung by a stingray while filming a documentary – was awarded the honor over the weekend for amassing 1.9 million Instagram followers, making her the most-followed TV conservationist and naturalist on the photo sharing app.
(They really have a category for that?)

GREEN PHONES:
Canadian researchers are warning that the habit of buying a new smartphone every two years is not only unsustainable, but it is taking a huge toll on the environment.  A study, done at Hamilton, Ontario’s McMaster University, found that by 2040, the communications tech sector will account for 14 per cent of all greenhouse gas emissions, about half of the transportation sector.  That’s a lot.  The researchers wrote that this “will definitely undermine any reductions achieved from other (greenhouse gas) emissions sources.”  Using a smartphone is not particularly carbon-intensive; it’s the extraction of rare metals used in smartphones, and the manufacturing process, that are the culprits.  That is why buying a new smartphone every two years, a habit created by telecom providers with their two-year contracts and subsidized phones, is so damaging to the environment.  The study determined that “the current business model, while highly profitable…is unsustainable and quite detrimental to the global efforts in (greenhouse gas) reductions.”  They suggest that the life of smartphones should be extended to four or more years, and old phones should be recycled.
(I wouldn’t call replacing my phone every two years a “habit” as much as a “malfunctioning battery”!)
(It doesn’t sound like anything that a new environmental tax on smartphones can’t fix…)
(Reducing greenhouse emissions — I’m guessing there’s no app for that…)

DIRTY LANGUAGE:
Say goodbye to the word “dirty”.  Language researchers say it could be the next word to become extinct.
The English language is always evolving.  That’s why kids today would never use some of the words that their grandparents use.  Can you imagine a child today describing something as “groovy”? Or telling someone that they have to “skedaddle”?  Probably not.  And imagine one of their grandparents referring to their significant other as “Bae” or talking about getting “turnt”!  One language expert says that fifty percent of the words we use today would be unrecognizable to our ancestors 2,500 years ago.  And as quickly as new words come into use, others are dropped.  To determine what words might go extinct next, researchers applied the theory of evolution through natural selection to language, and determined that the word “dirty” will be gone within 175 years.  That will be closely followed by words like “throw,” “stick,” “guts,” and “squeeze”, which should be up for replacement within 200 years.  What words will replace them?  Only our great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandchildren know.
(Somehow, I think that words like “bruh” and “lit” might be gone long before “dirty”…)
(My vote is for “lozenge” to be next.  I hate that word…)
(I think that if the word “dirty” becomes extinct, it only stands to reason that “Tide” would be next!)
