Sheet Happens!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Frankie Muniz had a terrible week last week.  After traveling to France for an uncle’s funeral, the “Malcolm in the Middle” actor returned home to find most of his house flooded because of…his cat. His feline friend accidentally turned on a sink, and Muniz posted that he discovered that 4 of the 5 stories of his home were under three feet of water, and “Everything” that he owns is destroyed, including “every wall, piece of artwork, personal photos, furniture… All because my cat accidentally turned on a sink a few days ago while we were gone.”  And as if that weren’t enough, on Saturday morning, he shared that he is staying in a hotel where the fire alarm went off during the night. Muniz, who is co-hosting “Dancing With the Stars Juniors” these days, said his girlfriend, Paige Price, is helping him through this terrible time.
(I’m guessing the cat was found upstairs…)

★ Bill Maher is in hot water after making comments that many are calling disrespectful toward late Marvel Comics creator Stan Lee. In a blog post Saturday, the late-night host wrote, “America is in mourning. Deep, deep mourning for a man who inspired millions to, I don’t know, watch a movie, I guess.” Maher continued, saying he has nothing “against comic books,” but that when he was growing up “comics were for kids, and when you grew up you moved on to big-boy books without the pictures.”   Fans of Lee took to social media to slam Maher for his comments, and comic book artist Greg Capullo tweeted: “I never speak on topics I know little or nothing about. Why? I never want to be the fool. In other words, I don’t wanna make a Bill Maher out of myself.”

★ “American Chopper” star Paul Teutul Sr. is in danger of having his New York mansion foreclosed on and sold off at public auction after one of his creditors went to a judge demanding they be allowed to seize the home ASAP. Last week, MT&T Bank filed court documents in Teutul’s bankruptcy demanding the judge allow them to start the process of foreclosing on his New York mansion.

★ Emmy Award-winning actor Jon Cryer will join the CW series “Supergirl” as one of the greatest comic book villains of all time — Lex Luthor. Best known as Alan Harper on the long-running sitcom “Two and a Half Men” and Duckie in “Pretty in Pink”, Cryer will debut as the master criminal in the 15th episode of the show’s current season.

WAITING FOR YOUR FRIDGIN’ RIDE:
The next time you take a ride in an Uber, you might be able to enjoy snacks from a minifridge.  Cargo Systems Inc. has placed the “Cargo Box” inside 12,000 ride-share vehicles so passengers can buy snacks and beverages on their way to a meeting or on the way home after a late night out.  Cargo boxes are described as a travelling mini-bar without the alcohol.  On Thursday, Cargo expanded its accessibility, announcing a deal with Venmo, the mobile payment service beloved by the millennial set, who just happen to be the prime users of ride-share services.  Cargo’s boxes are currently in ride-share cars in 10 cities across the U.S. and in Singapore.  The boxes are stocked with about a dozen products, which vary but in addition to food and drinks, could include Korean beauty masks and electronics such as iPhone chargers.  Reports are that some of the most popular items among those catching a ride are Extra gum and Skittles, but #1 is definitely Rice Krispie Treats.  Drivers earn a percentage of sales.
(Up until now, you were stuck with what you could find under the seat!)
(New slogan: “Uber: There’s an appetite for that!”)
(How long until they try to sell booze?)

OIL BELIEVE IT WHEN I SEE IT:
You might be enjoying lower prices at the pumps right now, but you know they won’t last forever.  And investment and financial services company Goldman Sachs is warning that by the 2020s, we could see a worldwide shortage of oil.  Not because resources are running out, but because investors are reluctant to put money behind the big oil companies to invest in future oil production.  Why?  Because the companies are feeling the heat from governments and the public to invest in cleaner energy sources. It has become politically incorrect for investors to sink large amounts of money into future oil production, according to Michele Della Vigna, Head of EMEA Natural Resources Research at Goldman Sachs.  He says: “In the 2020’s we are going to have a clear physical shortage of oil because nobody is allowed to fully invest in future oil production.”  That, of course, means that the transition to greener sources of energy will be brought about through higher, rather than lower oil prices.
(If cheap gas lasts into the 2020s, I’ll take it!)
(Somehow, I don’t see Middle East producers being too concerned with this…)

THINGS NOT TO BUY ON BLACK FRIDAY:
➠Toys:  Wait until closer to the holidays. Toys typically get lower and lower in price as the days count down to Christmas. (Hopefully Santa will get it, and you won’t have to!)
➠Christmas decorations:  Chances are the price will drop dramatically by the New Year. Hold on until January and you’ll have the most festive yard on the block for next Christmas.  (Mine are still up from last year.  I had the most festive yard on the block in July!)
➠ Clothing:  While you may see some tempting deals, taking time to search for your size and try on clothes can eat up precious shopping time. Cyber Monday is the better day to get deals on clothing. (Because I’m SO good at ordering the right size online!)
➠ Bedding:  Black Friday is not the time to buy new sheets, comforters or really anything for your bed. Retailers begin “white sales” in January, where discounts can go as high as 70 percent off.  (Also, one of those things that you don’t want to buy used…)
➠ Anything you don’t actually need:  It may seem like common sense, but it’s easy to get caught up in all the deals. Use Black Friday as a time to stretch your dollar, not break your bank. (Thanks for taking all the fun out of it…)

DID YOU KNOW?
Oxford Dictionaries has named ‘toxic’ its “Word of the Year” for 2018.  The British publisher says that “the sheer scope of its application that has made it the standout choice.”  Strictly defined as “poisonous,” Oxford Dictionaries says that its research shows that “this year more than ever, people have been using ‘toxic’ to describe a vast array of things, situations, concerns and events.”
