BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ With her sex trafficking trial set to begin Nov. 29, a 3-part docuseries will delve into the story of socialite Ghislaine Maxwell, who’s accused of having helped Jeffrey Epstein sexually abuse minors for years. The doc features author and journalist Vicky Ward, who’s interviewed two Epstein survivors and the man himself, before he died in August 2019, sharing transcripts of some of her conversation with him and, through dozens of other interviews, working to answer the question of why Maxwell was so tethered to Epstein. “Chasing Ghislaine” premieres Monday, Nov. 22 on Discovery+.

★ Lou Cutell, a veteran actor whose career spanned several decades and included a memorable role on “Senfield,” died this week at age 91. Cutell, perhaps best known for his role in “Seinfeld” episode “The Fusilli Jerry” as a proctologist with the job-specific vanity license plate “A—man,” got his first break in a production of the Broadway musical “The Young Abe Lincoln” in 1961. He went on to appear in a number of high-profile series, like “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” “Barney Miller,” “Kojak” and “Alice” into the 2010s. His final role was an episode of “Grey’s Anatomy” in 2015.

★ Next year, Peacock is bringing back Will Smith’s beloved comedy, “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”, which aired its series finale 25 years ago. But the new version isn’t a comedy: instead, “Bel-Air” is a dramatic take on the story of a West Philadelphia teen who is transplanted to the ritzy Los Angeles ZIP code. The just-released first teaser for the series gives viewers a taste of its subdued tone, complete with somber narration from Smith himself. LINK: https://youtu.be/WAfJpyBgcgA

★ Santa finds gay love in a heartwarming new holiday ad in Norway. The 4-minute clip, called “When Harry Met Santa,” depicts the jolly guy falling for a man who looks forward to seeing him every year. Santa watches Harry sleep, enjoys a beverage with him and jokes around with the man that he only sees annually. Harry, meanwhile, is heartbroken that he must wait so long between visits. At the end, Santa tells Harry, “Well, I arranged some help this year, so I can be with you,” and then the two kiss. The spot, for Norway’s postal service, marks the 50th anniversary of the country decriminalizing homosexuality. LINK: https://youtu.be/nDLumk_rQQw

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• The Weeknd – Billboard has announced that ‘Blinding Lights’ has become the new #1 on its Greatest Songs of All Time Hot 100 chart. It overtook the previous champion, Chubby Checker’s 1960s classic ‘The Twist’, which totaled 90 weeks on the Hot 100 Chart.
• Taylor Swift — couldn’t contain her excitement when she found out that her 10-minute, 13 second-long ‘All Too Well (Taylor’s Version)’ officially became the longest #1 Billboard hit of all time, besting Don McLean’s 8:37 ‘American Pie’, which held the title for nearly half a century. Alongside a link to the Billboard story about her latest record, Swift wrote: “FERAL SCREECH”.
• Jennifer Hudson — will be the recipient of the Chairman’s Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival on Jan.6. She portrayed Aretha Franklin in the biopic “Respect” earlier this year.
• Jay-Z — made Grammy history with his 3 nominations on Tuesday. He’s now the most-nominated artist ever with a grand total of 83. That put him comfortably past Quincy Jones’ 80. Paul McCartney received 2 noms, giving him a total of 81.
• Judas Priest – will release a graphic novel next year, in time for the 40th anniversary of their best-selling album “Screaming For Vengeance”. “Judas Priest: Screaming For Vengeance” will be released in soft and hardcover formats, with special limited deluxe and super deluxe versions featuring an exclusive anniversary vinyl LP, prints and more.
• Sting – says he never imagined himself ever having a Las Vegas residency. He recently finished a series of shows titled “My Songs” at Caesars Palace and will return to the Sin City venue in June. Quote: “For me, that was like what Frank Sinatra would have done or Sammy Davis, or Dean Martin or Tom Jones. But Sting?!” Despite his apprehensions, he says he felt “at home” once the concerts began.
• Carrie Underwood, Mickey Guyton, Jimmie Allen and Chris Lane — will all be a part of today’s 2020 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Other performers scheduled for the parade, which will air 9am – noon in all American time zones, include Foreigner, Nelly, Rob Thomas, Darren Criss, Andy Grammer, Kelly Rowland, and Kim Petras.

The camping and country music party is scheduled for Aug. 4-7, 2022 at Burl’s Creek Event Grounds in Oro-Medonte, north of Toronto.

SHOOTING THE BULL

TOSS YOUR NAME IN:
What’s in a name? Maybe Urban Dictionary can answer that question. For decades, the crowdsourced online dictionary has given us the “real” meanings behind some questionable and not-so questionable words and phrases that have cropped up on social media – or from the mouth of your teenager. But did you know that it also provides definitions for people’s names? A recent trend is for Twitter and Instagram users to post the Urban Dictionary definition of their name on their profiles? Sparked by Instagrammer @bymayuuu, the prompt “Show us ur name in Urban Dictionary” quickly went viral. Some examples:
• Stacie:  A girl so beautiful, it can bring you to tears.
• Brandi:  Illest and dopest chick you’ll ever meet.
• Mae:  Is smart but most of the time doesn’t care about what happens as long as she doesn’t hurt and no one hurts her friends.
• James:  is caring, respectful, trustworthy, friendly, smart, sweet…and has the most patience than any other person you know.
• Griff:  A large, testosterone fueled bear-like porn star.
• (***Caution***) Elijah:  Doesn’t give af what ya names mean on urban dictionary
(I’m pretty sure there aren’t the definitions that are in our old ‘baby names’ book!)

(PET) PRESENT ACCOUNTED FOR:
Santa Paws is coming to town, apparently. Supply chain issues or no, one segment expected to go unaffected this holiday season is gifts for our pets. Word is that suppliers of pet presents; those that stock toys, treats and pet accessories, are gearing up for a banner year of gift giving for our pets. The American Pet Products Association reports that 51% of US pet owners bought a gift for their animal in 2020, up from 47% in 2019, and…get this…56% plan to do so this year. And yes, while pet presents might sound like an extravagance, there are sound reasons this market is booming. Demand for animal companions spiked during lockdowns, and as a result, spending on pets soared. Plus, pets are seen as part of the family, and there is a desire to treat them like people. People are even looking for more upmarket ways to spoil their animals — that could mean buying them an advent calendar or taking them to the doggy day spa for a pre-holiday makeover.
(I’m pretty sure that celebrating Christmas and NOT buying a gift for your pet is illegal in many jurisdictions…)
(PLAN to buy their pets a present? We’ve had our doggie gifts tucked away since about June!)
(It’s funny, because when you talk about your dog leaving a gift for YOU, it’s a whole different thing!)

(Grand)MOTHER NATURE:
If it seems to you that your Mother is a lot nicer to your kids than she is to you, blame biology. Researchers at Emory University in Atlanta found that grandmothers shown pictures of their biological grandchildren had a neurological response in the areas of their brain that are important for emotional empathy and motivation. Not a big surprise, right? But the scientists also found in their study of 50 Nanas, that while grandma may be wired to try to understand her adult children’s feelings, she is way more geared to an emotional response when it comes to grandchildren. In other words, the parental area of the brain is re-activated or stays activated late in life . . . or ‘Once a mother, always a mother’.
(I don’t mind my mother spending a lot of time with my kids. I just wish she’d give them back sometimes!)
(So what they’re saying is that when my Mom looks at pics of my kids, her brain does the same thing mine does when I look at cake!)
(Don’t say that last line in your Samuel L. Jackson voice!)

PHRASES YOU MAY HAVE BEEN USING WRONG:
☞ “Hunger pains” vs. “Hunger pangs”: Even though you think you feel “hunger pains” when you’re hungry, “pangs” is actually a medical term referring to cramps that are caused by hunger. (And although the term “hangry” is NOT a medical term, it should be!)
☞ “On tender hooks” vs. “On tenterhooks”:  “On tender hooks” is complete nonsense. To be “on tenterhooks” means “to be filled with painful or anxious anticipation”. It comes from a device used to hang clothes, called a tenter. (Oh! Like a treadmill!)
☞ “Slight of hand” vs. “Sleight of hand”: If “slight of hand” feels to you like it implies a slight move in the name of deception, you’re not alone! But “sleight” means “the use of dexterity or cunning, especially so as to deceive,” and that’s the correct phrase.
☞ “Shoe-in” vs. “Shoo-in”: A “shoo-in” is an easy winner, and it comes from people shooing racehorses to encourage them to run faster. “Shoe-in” is just a common misspelling of the phrase. (I’m not going to go into much detail about the word my father always used after “shoe” and “in”…)
☞ “Hone in” vs. “Home in”: They both technically make sense, but “home in” means “finding and moving directly toward something.” So, you hone your skills, but you home in on a target.
☞ “Butt naked” vs. “Buck naked”: Yes, “Butt naked” makes more sense, but “buck naked” came first – so what are ya gonna do?

DID YOU KNOW?
Tiffany’s has unveiled its most-expensive bling ever. “The World’s Fair Necklace,” unveiled in Dubai on Sunday, features a stunning 180 carats of diamonds set in platinum. Its centerpiece is an 80-carat oval, flawless, D-color (highest grade and virtually colorless) “Empire Diamond,” named for the iconic jeweler’s hometown. The Empire Diamond was ethically sourced in Botswana, cut and polished in Israel and set in Tiffany’s workshop in New York City. The luxury retailer has not yet put a price on The World’s Fair Necklace, but industry experts estimate its value to be $20-30 million.

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Thanksgiving Day” in America, an annual feasting tradition proclaimed for all states in 1863 and made a national holiday set on the 4th Thursday of November in 1879.  The event that Americans commonly call the ‘First Thanksgiving’ was celebrated by the Pilgrims after their first harvest in the New World in October 1621. (No ‘Black Friday’ that year!) A few facts …
– The original Thanksgiving festivities date back 2,000 years to Celtic priests, the Druids, who celebrated a harvest festival.
– Canadian Thanksgiving was originally celebrated at the same time as in the US, but was eventually moved to the 2nd Monday of October to reflect the earlier harvest season.
– The term ‘turkey’ was used by New England pilgrims to mean any sort of wild fowl. It could have been seagull. (Yum!)
• “Shopping Reminder Day”, marking exactly 1 month until Christmas Day. Just what you wanted to hear, huh? (If anyone is shopping for me, I take a size large in cash!)
• “Parfait Day”, saluting the yummy treat that’s concocted from layers of ice cream, whipped cream, and any combination of syrups and fruits. Yes, it’s basically a fancy word for a sundae . . . likely because it’s usually served in a fancy glass.
• “International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women”, initiated by activists in 1981 and adopted by the UN in 1999 to help raise awareness of this worldwide problem. LINK: https://www.un.org/en/observances/ending-violence-against-women-day
• “Blasé Day”, a perfect day for the world-weary to revel in their apathy. (Eh, who cares.)
