BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Ricky Gervais is back! The comedian is returning as host of the Golden Globes for the fifth time. In a statement, Gervais said: “Once again, they’ve made me an offer I can’t refuse. But this is the very last time I’m doing this, which could make for a fun evening.” Hollywood Foreign Press Association  president Lorenzo Soria said, “When Ricky Gervais is at the helm of the Golden Globes Awards, we can always expect the unexpected. We’re excited to see it all unfold on Jan. 5!”  Gervais hosted the Globes in 2010-12 and returned in 2016.

★ After a four-year break, “The Soup” is coming back. E! has announced it will return early next year with actress-comedian Jade Catta-Preta as host. The “reimagined” and “supercharged” new version of The Soup will continue its long tradition of skewering pop culture. The show premiered in 1991 as “Talk Soup” and famously launched the career of original host Greg Kinnear, who hosted until 1995. E! most recently canceled the show at the end of 2015 after 22 years.

★ Fans are eagerly anticipating the third season of “The Crown”, as the storyline moves into the tumultuous 1960s and 1970s. Some of the upcoming storylines are already causing some serious pearl-clutching among royal watchers. One involves the Queen’s obsessive interest in horses, resulting in her leaving Buckingham Palace on a mission to visit stud farms in Kentucky, accompanied by her childhood friend Lord Porchester, who shares her passion for all things equestrian. When she returns to Buckingham Palace, a chilly scene finds Prince Philip gently wondering if her friendship with old “Porchie” may be something more.

★ “Avengers: Endgame’s” Robert Downey Jr. dedicated his E! People’s Choice Awards 2019 accolade to Stan Lee on Sunday night, as the film took home three prizes. He was presented with the Male Movie Star of 2019 gong for his role as ‘Tony Stark/Iron Man’, and he paid tribute to the ”late, great” comic book writing legend who passed away a year ago at age 95. Downey Jr. told the crowd: ”I just got to come up here and open the show so I’ll just say thank you Disney, thank you Marvel, thank you Russo brothers. ”And most of all, to the late, great Stan Lee, this is for you, buddy.”

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Tyler The Creator – Fans who attended his Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival in L.A. were disappointed that the surprise headliner was – Drake. Posters for the event featured question marks instead of naming the actual headliner. It seems the crowd was expecting to see Tyler’s former bandmate Frank Ocean, but instead, they got Drake, who performed nine songs, and when he asked the crowd whether they wanted him to continue, they straight up booed him.
• Ariana Grande – is teasing a new “Sweetener” live album. She shared clips on her Instagram stories of her scrolling through audio files with the names of different cities she played in on the ‘Sweetener’ world tour. Last month, she tweeted: “so …. i got a bunch of my live vocals from tour on my laptop…about to start comping thru and picking my favorite…performance moments…just in case u want a live album one day.”
• Brian Setzer – has canceled his “Christmas Rocks!” tour with the Brian Setzer Orchestra. According to a press release, Setzer has been diagnosed with a severe case of tinnitus, a condition that causes sufferers to hear a constant noise or ringing in their ears.
• The Who – Pete Townshend says their new song ‘I Don’t Wanna Get Wise’ is ”a twist” on ‘My Generation, except instead of being about ”not wanting to die before you get old”, ‘I Don’t Wanna Get Wise’ is written from a young person’s perspective and is about that ”discomforting” feeling when you realize you ”know nothing” as you look to the future.
• Ozzy Osbourne — has announced his rescheduled ‘No More Tours 2’ dates in the UK and Europe after having to postpone things when he was hospitalized with pneumonia and later suffered a bad fall. The new dates kick off in Newcastle, UK on October 23, before wrapping on December 7 in Helsinki, Finland.
• Fleetwood Mac — Mick Fleetwood has assembled an all-star lineup, including Steven Tyler, Billy Gibbons and David Gilmour, to pay tribute to founding guitarist Peter Green. Also on the bill: former Rolling Stone Bill Wyman, Christine McVie, John Mayall, Zak Starkey, Andy Fairweather Low and Jonny Lang. The concert will take place on Feb. 25 at the London Palladium.
• RaeLynn – “The Voice” alum has been added to the roster of Round Here Records. She is the first female artist signed to the label launched by Florida Georgia Line members Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley. Hubbard shared the news on social media, along with a tease of RaeLynn’s new single, ‘Bra Off’.
• Shania Twain – will perform at The 2019 American Music Awards. The AMAs air live on Sunday, Nov. 24. The performance will be Twain’s first at the awards show since 2003, and will see the Queen of Country Pop singing a medley of her greatest hits spanning her career.

IN BAD TASTE:
If your kids gag when you try to get them to eat certain vegetables, it might not be picky eaters that you’re dealing with. You might have “super-tasters” on your hands. Super-tasters are people who are genetically predisposed to taste food differently. Super-tasters are extremely sensitive to bitterness, a common characteristic of many dark green, leafy veggies such as broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage and Brussels sprouts. People with the “bitter gene” are 2.6 times more likely to eat fewer vegetables than people who don’t have that gene. Although food scientists are developing ways to reduce the bitterness in veggies, experts say cooking techniques such as adding a little fat, a little bit of sweetness, strong flavors like garlic or roasting them in the oven, which brings out natural sweetness, can all enhance the taste of the vegetable and block the bitterness.
(I don’t know if I’m a super-taster, but I sure get a bitter taste in my mouth when I have to eat Brussels sprouts!)
(Of course, because it is a genetic condition, if your kids are super-tasters, chances are that you are too. So if you aren’t, don’t fall for the old “I’m a super-taster” line!)
(If I didn’t taste food differently from others, I could never eat my own cooking!)

WHEN PIGS FLY:
Brace yourself. It’s the world’s first therapy pig. 5-year old ‘LiLou the therapy pig’ is part of San Francisco International Airport’s “Wag Brigade” — a program that brings therapy animals to the airport to cheer passengers up and help ease travel anxieties. When on duty, LiLou dresses in a pilot’s cap with toenails painted bright red. She raises a hoof in greeting, poses for selfies and entertains departing passengers with a tune on her toy piano. When not at work, LiLou lives in an apartment with her owner, Tatyana Danilova, where she enjoys a diet of organic vegetables and protein pellets, sleeps in her own bed and goes for daily walks around the neighborhood. Danilova says that LiLou loves interacting with people, but, as a prey animal, doesn’t like having anyone approach her from behind.
(I’m not sure how therapeutic it would be to see a pig wearing a captain’s hat…at the airport!)

TELLING OUT-OF-SCHOOL TALES:
Although most young people still believe in the value of higher education, many believe that a high school diploma alone is enough to succeed in life, according to a survey by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research. While more than half of Americans ages 13 through 29 do see college as a path to economic success, about half said their high school education has provided the skills they need to get a good job right after they graduate. And 45% say a high school diploma is good preparation for future successful workers. Researchers say it has been decades since a high school diploma was enough to ensure a good living.
(Well, that’s ONE school of thought…)
(You know what high school prepares you for? College. Hopefully.)

DID YOU KNOW?
Many airports make you walk a certain distance to the baggage claim so that you don’t get there before your luggage does. People don’t mind walking to get their luggage, but will complain if they have to stand around for five minutes.
