BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Reese Witherspoon has invited her “The Morning Show” co-star Jennifer Aniston to star in “Big Little Lies”. The two first worked together in 2000 when Witherspoon played ‘Jill Green’, the younger sister of Jennifer’s famous alter ego ‘Rachel Green’, in “Friends”. Witherspoon says that over the years, Aniston has “would always drop everything” to give her advice and support. Now, she has extended an offer to Aniston to join her and the rest of the star-studded “Big Little Lies” cast – which includes Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern, Zoe Kravitz and Shailene Woodley.

★ Dwayne Johnson as a fighter? Art will imitate life when The Rock produces and stars in “Smashing Machine”, a biopic of retired UFC fighter Mark Kerr. Johnson made his name as The Rock when he competed as a wrestler in WWE, but will enter the world of mixed martial arts with the feature about Kerr, a pioneering fighter who was widely regarded as the world’s best during his career. The film will have a darker side from Johnson’s usual roles in action and comedy features, as Kerr struggled with an addiction to painkillers, which was detailed in the 2003 documentary “Smashing Machine”, which was also Kerr’s nickname.

★ Harry Potter star Scarlett Byrne has wed Playboy heir Cooper Hefner after a four-year engagement. Byrne’s most notable work is when she was on the TV series “The Vampire Diaries” and “Falling Skies”, but her most famous character is ‘Pansy Parkinson’ in the 2009 movie, “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.” She reprised her role for part 1 and part 2 of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.”

★ Matthew McConaughey is in talks to play ‘Two-Face’ in the upcoming film, ‘The Batman’. In the DC Comics canon, attorney Harvey Dent is left hideously scarred on the left side of his face after a mob boss throws acid at him during a trial, and his injury drives him insane, leading him to become the villain Two-Face, who makes all his decisions by flipping his lucky two-headed coin. “The Batman” will be released in 2021 and will star Robert Pattinson as the Dark Knight.

★ Priyank Chopra has been receiving some social media backlash thanks to a selfie she shared on Sunday while filming in New Delhi, India. Her pic showed her wearing a respirator mask while riding in the back of a car. The city of New Delhi is known for its poor air quality and pollution. Her followers were quick to criticize her for her lack of action. One fan commented: “Here’s a thought. Instead of praying, why don’t you make a contribution or buy masks for those who can’t afford it?” Chopra is in India filming for the Netflix project, “The White Tiger.”

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• MTV EMAs — Women dominated this year, with Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish both taking home two awards. Eilish won for best new artist and best song, for ‘Bad Guy’, and Swift was voted best U.S. act and best video for ‘Me!’ Neither was present to receive their awards.
• Selena Gomez – Has hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the first time with ‘Lose You to Love Me’.
• Harry Styles — his second album, “Fine Line”, will be released on December 13. Last month, he released the new song ‘Lights Up’, which was his first new release since his debut solo album in 2017.
• John Legend – His new take on ‘Baby, It’s Cold Outside’ featuring Kelly Clarkson has been met with complaints that he’s “ruined” the holiday classic by including new lyrics to emphasize consent. Now Dean Martin’s daughter is joining the fray. Donna Martin said: “He should write his own song if he doesn’t like this one, but don’t change the lyrics. It’s a classic, perfect song.”
• Dave Matthews – says he feels “unqualified and undeserving” of induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He does admit, however, that he likes the idea of being named among the varied artists who make up the 2020 nominations, including the Doobie Brothers, Judas Priest, Soundgarden, Pat Benatar Whitney Houston and Depeche Mode.
• Iron Maiden — frontman Bruce Dickinson could be forced to fork out a share of his $116 million fortune after reportedly leaving his wife of 29 years and moving in with his “super fan” girlfriend Leana Dolci. He has been married to Paddy Bowden for 29 years, but they quietly separated last year.
• George Michael – The posthumous single ‘This is How’ will be released today. It will be used in the soundtrack to the forthcoming film “Last Christmas”, which is a festive romantic comedy inspired by the music of Michael.
• Kacey Musgraves – has her own Christmas special. “Schitt’s Creek” actor Dan Levy will narrate “The Kacey Musgraves Christmas Show”, and it will include appearances from Fred Armisen, Leon Bridges, Camila Cabello, James Corden, Lana Del Rey, Zooey Deschanel, Kendall Jenner and more. It will debut on Amazon Prime Nov. 29.
• CMA Awards — The presenters for this year’s ceremony have been announced. Jim Gaffigan, Bobby Bones, Trisha Yearwood, Martina McBride, Craig Morgan, Vince Gill, “The Bachelor” alum Hannah Brown and more will hand out trophies. CMA Awards will air live next Wednesday.

CHRISTMAS BILLS:
Millennials are more likely to overspend during the holiday season than any other generation, according to a new survey. The survey of over 2,500 adults by CreditCards.com found that just over half of gift givers between the ages of 23-28 are willing to add to existing debt to complete their holiday shopping. Among Gen-Xers, 49% were good with adding to their debt to add to others’ joy, and for baby boomers, the number was only 34%. Patriot Bank executive vice president Judith Corprew says in a blog for CreditCards.com that the trend is concerning, especially since it can involve high-interest credit card debt.
(I just wish I were on more millennials’ Christmas lists…)
(Are you telling me that some people actually DON’T go heavily into debt at Christmas?)
(It would appear it’ll be avocado toast for everyone this holiday season!)

LAME DUCT:
You’ve probably had a telemarketing call or two over the years from someone trying to convince you to have your air ducts cleaned. In fact, you’ve probably had a call or two THIS WEEK. Air ducts are in buildings with forced air heating and cooling systems, and they are magnets for dust and other particulates in the air. But according to Jeffrey Siegel, who studies indoor air quality in his role as a professor at the University of Toronto, you might as well save your money. He says that duct cleaning doesn’t make a difference. Siegel says there has not yet been a study that has shown that it consistently improves indoor air quality. Nor does it save energy, contrary to the claims of some services. In fact, he says that air duct cleaning can make indoor air quality worse because the process kicks up dust and other particulates that were otherwise settled in the house, and the cleaning apparatus may not pick it all up. In addition, some companies use chemicals that are not good to breathe in. And in cases where duct cleaning is warranted, such as homes with a moisture problem, or one which has undergone recent renovations, he doesn’t recommend using the services of a company which “calls you out of the blue”.
(We’ve got 2 dogs and 2 cats…and I’m pretty sure another cat’s worth of fur in the ducts!)
(If those guys quit calling me, I wouldn’t know if my landline is working!)
(I asked to be put on their “Do not call” list, and they started faxing me!)

WONDERFUL WORDS WITH NO ENGLISH EQUIVALENT:
In some other cultures, people can say in a word what it takes us a whole sentence to say…like…
➢ Kummerspeck (German):  Weight gained from emotional overeating. (Ah! Grief bacon!)
➢ Tartle (Scots):  That panicky hesitation just before you have to introduce someone whose name you can’t quite remember. (And that’s pretty much the sound you make too…”Tartle!”)
➢ Greng-jai (Thai):  That feeling you get when you don’t want someone to do something for you because it would be a pain for them. (And then they do, so you kummerspeck…)
➢ Mencolek (Indonesian):  That old trick where you tap someone on the opposite shoulder from behind to fool them. (So, idiots do that everywhere?)
➢ Gigil (Filipino):  The urge to pinch or squeeze something that is irresistibly cute. (#MeToo)
➢ Lagom (Swedish):  Means something like, “Not too much, and not too little, but juuuuust right.” (I’m thinking Goldilocks was Swedish?)
➢ Seigneur-terraces (French):  Coffee shop dwellers who sit at tables a long time but spend little money. (We call them ‘Wi-Fi loiterers!’)
➢ Shemomedjamo (Georgian):  When you’re really full, but your meal is so delicious, you can’t stop eating it. (So, it pretty much means, “I accidentally ate the whole thing.”)

DID YOU KNOW?
People are good at figuring out strangers’ names based on their faces. Studies show that when given a random face and a list of names to choose from, people guess the right name more often than when left to chance. Scientists think it might be because stereotypes are subconsciously associated with names, and that people unknowingly change their own appearances to fit the stereotype of their name. (We’re sorry if your name is ‘Ralph’!)
