Ahhhh, It’s Your Daily Constitutional Sheet!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Donnie Wahlberg (New Kids On the Block) and Nick Lachey (98 Degrees) are teaming up to produce a scripted TV comedy series about a fictional boy-band that reunites after 20 years apart. “Encore” is the result of conversations between Donnie and Nick about how their lives have changed between their days as teenage heartthrobs and now, balancing family life with boy-band reunions. It’s the 2nd boy-band series announced of late, after Zayn Malik’s drama “Boys”, which the former One Direction singer is co-producing.

★ A movie remake of “A Star is Born”, starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, has been given a September 2018 release date. The musical drama has previously been adapted for the screen in 1937, 1954, and 1976. Cooper plays a fading movie star who helps aspiring up-and-comer (Gaga) find her feet in the world of fame whilst his own career spirals downward. 41-year-old Cooper is also making his directorial debut with the project. It’s also been revealed that actor Ray Liotta is in talks to join the cast, though it’s not clear what his role would be.

★ A rare 1st edition of the book that introduced ‘Harry Potter’ to the world has sold at a London auction for circa $55,000. The 1st edition run of JK Rowling’s “Harry Potter & The Philosopher’s Stone” is unique because of a spelling error on the back cover. The excerpt reads “Acclaim for Harry Potter and the Philospher’s Stone” where the second ‘o’ in ‘Philosopher’ is missing. The book had been expected to sell for $25,000-to-$30,000 but reportedly became the subject of intense bidding. Published in 1997, the book has sold more than 400 million copies worldwide.

★ And Meghan Markle, the actress-girlfriend of Prince Harry, has asked for time off from filming the USA Network show “Suits”. Markle, who stars as ‘Rachel Zane’ on the Toronto-filmed show, has told producers she has ‘something important to do’ and will not be on-set this week. Insiders speculate she’s meeting with lawyers to help manage her turbulent and sudden rise to international fame. Prince Harry appeared in public on Friday for the first time since news of his relationship came to light, joining Prince Philip at a Remembrance Day event in London.

DA BIG MOON:
The largest, brightest Full Moon in nearly 7 decades is on display this morning. The Moon is nearer to Earth than at any time since 1948, astronomers say. The closest approach occurs at 6:23 am EST this morning, when the Moon passes within 216,486 miles (348,400 km) of Earth’s surface, about 22,000 miles (35,400 km) closer than average. The Moon’s distance from Earth varies because it is in an egg-shaped, not circular, orbit around the planet. If skies are clear, the Full Moon is appearing up to 14% bigger and 30% brighter than usual, making it what is called a ‘Super Moon’, according to NASA. The next time a Full Moon comes as close to Earth will be in 2034. (Unless you use your binoculars.)

HOKEY POKEY:
“Pokémon Sun and Moon” aren’t being released until Friday but details of the new twin games have been trickling out online from those with early copies. They include both ‘Red’ and ‘Blue’ species, but some critters are only available from one version, which means owners of the other edition will need to acquire them via trading. Gibbon-like ‘Passimian’, lava tortoise ‘Tortunator’, and Lycanroc’s ‘Midday’ forme are all exclusive to “Sun”. Orangutan-like ‘Oranguru’, smoke dragon ‘Drampa’, and Lycanroc’s ‘Midnight’ forme are all “Moon” exclusives meanwhile. (Hey, whatever happened to “Pokémon Go”? That was really hot … for about a minute.)

THE NEXT BIG THING?
Lat week the company formerly known as Snapchat started selling its new ‘Spectacles’. The $130 sunglasses with built-in camera are only available from cartoonish vending machines. The ‘Snapbots’, as they’re being mysteriously pop up temporarily before moving on to the next location. The official website tells buyers where ‘Snapbots’ will be on a day-to-day basis. The treasure hunt smacks of marketing genius, whip fans into a tizzy trying to tap into the extremely limited supply of the newest gizmo. (Hey, whatever happened to ‘Google Glass’?)

BEDTIME SORRY:
The more time we spend on our smartphones, the more our quality of sleep suffers say researchers in a new study in the journal “PLoS ONE”. It’s the first study to directly measure actual screen-time and compare it to sleep quality. The study uses a mobile app that runs in the background to capture exact screen-time duration. And the results seem to back previous research suggesting that screen-time close to bedtime affects both the time taken to fall asleep and overall sleep quality. It may be that a screen’s blue light suppresses the sleep hormone melatonin, or that using a phone at bedtime simply keeps the brain more active. (Life would be a whole lot better if you’d just put the friggin’ phone down.)

HELPFUL HACKS FOR YOUR NEXT BIG ROAD TRIP:
✓ Traveling with man’s best friend? Bring an extra suitcase and wedge a pillow inside to serve as a cozy dog bed in the car or hotel.
✓ To make sure headlights are shining as brightly as they should, polish them up with toothpaste. Just rub the paste (not gel) on with a rag, then rub it off with a clean rag.
✓ Leaky radiator? Locate the leak, then crack an egg or two over it. The egg will cook in the hot water and plug the hole … if the leak is in the radiator and not the hoses, that is.
✓ Don’t drive down the middle of country roads. Driving slightly off the beaten path, even by just a few inches, can make for a smoother ride and put less strain on your engine.
✓ If you need to pull over at a rest stop and take a 20-minute nap to keep going, do it in privacy. Get fabric screens that adhere to windows with suction cups or double-sided tape.
