BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Paul Rudd has been doing the media rounds in Canada promoting his Netflix show “Living With Yourself,” and recently talked about a number of Canadian things to encourage Canucks to give the show a shot. He confirmed that he’s currently bingeing CBC/Netflix hit “Schitt’s Creek” and proceeded to gush about the show’s cast and characters. Quote: “Catherine O’Hara’s character…is quite possibly the greatest creation since Mars Rovers. It’s something to behold. It’s spectacular.” Later he told Canadians that they would love his show because it involves “a lot of Tim Hortons, a lot of hockey … a lot of President’s Choice cookies.”

★ Christopher Lloyd hopes there will be a fourth “Back to the Future” film. The 81-year-old starred as Emmett ‘Doc’ Brown in the iconic film trilogy between 1985 and 1990, and now says that he would love for there to be a new installment to the franchise, although he doesn’t think it will happen. Lloyd says that although he always hoped the franchise would be successful, he never expected the magic of the series to last for over three decades. “Back to the Future – The Musical” is set to debut in February.

★ Mary Joe Eustace is dishing about making peace with her ex-husband Dean McDermott and Tori Spelling. She stopped by McDermott’s podcast “Daddy Issues” to discuss how she managed to reconcile with her ex and his wife. Because McDermott cheated and left Eustace for Spelling, the road to peacefulness was not easy. It became necessary though for the sake of Jack, the 21-year-old son she shares with McDermott. Eustace says she and Spelling have similar personalities and are now getting along famously. She even shared a photo with the “BH90210” star on social media to document the occasion. (Translation: “He’s YOUR problem now!”)

★ “The Walking Dead” is waging legal war with the creators of a comic book series. According to legal docs, “The Toking Dead” filed a trademark application in August 2017, but AMC fired back with a cease and desist, claiming copyright infringement … and the legal standoff is still going down. For those unfamiliar … “Toking Dead” is a comic strip about 2 friends who open a marijuana dispensary, and when disaster strikes and people mutate into zombies, the guys discover their weed holds the key to saving humanity.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Post Malone – His “Hollywood’s Bleeding” has become the first album released in 2019 to score four weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. The album spent its first three weeks at No. 1 Sept. 21 through Oct. 5, and returns to the top on the latest chart, dated Nov. 2.
• Halsey – hosted her annual Halloween party in LA on Friday night, with the theme of this year’s event being 1960s, 70s, 80s, and 90s rock stars. Avril Lavigne was in attendance, and joined Halsey (who was dressed as Marilyn Manson) on stage to perform her hit ‘Girlfriend’.
• Nirvana — Kurt Cobain’s vintage, olive-green cardigan, which he wore at the band’s famous “MTV Unplugged” performance in New York in 1993, sold for $334,000 at auction on the weekend. The cardigan has never been washed since the concert.
• Elton John – postponed his Saturday night concert in Indianapolis. He posted on social media that he was “extremely unwell”. That comes following the death of Gladys Furnish – the mother of his Toronto-born husband David Furnish. The show will be rescheduled for March.
• Prince – lashed out at the music industry for “trying to ram Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran down our throats” in a series of unearthed notes and letters. Prince wrote: “We don’t like it no matter how many times they play it.” The notes were found inside his home following his death, and will be part of a book, “The Beautiful Ones”, by Dan Piepenbring, who had been asked by the Purple One to work on his memoir before his passing.
• Metallica — Founding Thin Lizzy guitarist Eric Bell has slammed them for allegedly failing to pay him for a guest appearance 20 years ago. He was invited to play ‘Whiskey in The Jar’ with the metal legends in Dublin in July 1999 and expected to receive around 2000 euros (approximately $2,200) for his appearance. He admits there was no agreement on the fee, but feels slighted that he was handed “a big ball” of Metallica t-shirts, key rings and hats instead of payment.
• Little Feat – singer/guitarist Paul Barrere died on Saturday from complications of liver disease at UCLA Hospital at age 71. His songwriting credits include ‘Feats Don’t Fail Me Now’, and his music appeared on “The Sopranos”, and in the films “Major League II”, “Pink Cadillac” and “Road House”, among others.
• Cody Jinks — canceled his concert slated for Saturday night in Nacogdoches, Texas, because of an unspecified “threat of violence.” He tweeted: “The safety for our fans, friends, and staff is first and foremost.” Police say they were notified Saturday morning of a threat that was made over the phone. Kinks has promised to reschedule the show.
• Ned LeDoux – His 2-year-old daughter Haven died due to a choking accident at the family home in Kansas. LeDoux is the son of singer-songwriter Chris LeDoux, and has released one studio album.
• Chris Lane – married “The Bachelor” alum Lauren Bushnell on Friday in Nashville.

• “Mike Wallace Is Here” (PG-13, Documentary):  Relying exclusively on archival footage, a documentary that tracks Wallace’s storied career and troubled personal life, and explores how broadcast journalism evolved to today’s precarious tipping point.

CHECK THIS OUT:
Canadian grocery chain Sobeys is testing a computerized shopping cart that lets customers scan groceries and pay for them without having to line up at a checkout counter. The machine, called “Smart Cart”, operates like a self-checkout on wheels, with a built-in scale to weigh produce, and a scanner plus a screen to show the price total and a card reader for payment. The customer scans their groceries, pays, and leaves. Soon, Sobeys hopes their carts will be able to analyze what a shopper has put in it without the need to scan a barcode. It will also be able to take a customer’s grocery list and plan a route through the store, guiding them to each item using an on-screen map. Or, a customer could choose a recipe and have the cart show them where to find the ingredients.
(You had me at “not having to line up at a checkout counter.”)
(What they haven’t thought of is that with no trip to the cash register, sales of National Enquirer will plummet!)

NOPE:
A haunted house in Summertown, Tennessee promises such a fright that participants must be cleared by a doctor and sign a 40-page waiver before entering. The McKamey Manor experience, which can last up to 10 hours, also requires those-about-to-be-spooked to be at least 18 years old, insured and pass a background check and drug test. Owner Ross McKamey offers $20,000 to anyone who is able to complete the tour, but so far, it hasn’t happened. He records each tour on video, which he says is as much for his own legal protection as it is for the publicity he gets by posting them online. How much does it cost to have the willies scared out of you? It’s free, with a bag of dog food for the owner’s five dogs. McKamey says that the key to inspiring terror is a “mind game” that relies on hypnotism to have visitors tricked by their own minds.

HOW TO HAVE AN ECO-FRIENDLY HALLOWEEN:
(…or How to Make Your Halloween Less Scary for the Environment…)
☞ Parties:  Make yours a zero-waste party. Avoid the use of single-use plastics such as cups, plates and cutlery. (And Dracula teeth?)
☞ Pumpkins:  Buy yours from a local farmer’s market. After carving it, compost the insides, or put it to good use by making pumpkin pie and roasting the seeds.
☞ Costumes:  Instead of buying new, shop at a thrift store, borrow from a friend or make your own pieces from old clothing and textiles. (I’m sure I have some pretty scary stuff right in my closet right now!)
☞ Candy:  To avoid excessive packaging, purchase treats in bulk. Package them in mini paper bags. Buy fair trade chocolate bars. (Where can I get fun-size fair trade stuff?)
☞ Decorations:  Reuse as many decorations as you can from year to year. And get crafty! Gather some art supplies and make your own decorations from household or outdoor items like branches, leaves, cardboard, ribbon, tin cans, etc. (If you’re looking for spider webs, you’re welcome to come visit my basement…)
