It’s Your Daily Constitutional Sheet!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Controversial Simpsons character ‘Apu’ is reportedly being axed from the show. Producer Adi Shankar says that the show isn’t “going to make a big deal out of it, or anything like that, but they’ll drop him altogether just to avoid the controversy.” The show has come under scrutiny over its portrayal of convenience store Kwik-E-Mart owner Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, voiced by Hank Azaria.  A documentary was released last year titled “The Problem With Apu”, which made the case that the character and his thick Indian accent were based on hurtful stereotypes.

★ Jenna Dewan Tatum has gone ahead and filed for divorce from Channing Tatum.  Her papers were filed on Friday afternoon in Los Angeles, citing irreconcilable differences. She is asking for joint legal and physical custody of the couple’s daughter, 5-year-old Everly.  She is also seeking child support and spousal support. According to the filing, Jenna is also seeking to have her name restored to Jenna Dewan.

★ The buzz in Hollywood is that first-time directors Bradley Cooper and Jonah Hill very well could garner serious Oscar consideration.  Going from actor to director is a strategy that often pays off when it comes to awards.  In the past, voters have often taken a shine to A-listers who can transfer their talents to the craft of filmmaking; take Clint Eastwood, George Clooney, Ben Affleck, Angelina Jolie, Mel Gibson, Robert Redford, and Jodie Foster for example, all of whom have parlayed their vast acting careers into successful directing gigs.  Cooper, served as director of “A Star is Born” and Hill made his directorial debut in “Mid90s”.

★ “13 Reasons Why” star Katherine Langford has joined the cast of “Avengers 4”. As with most things Marvel, Langford’s role is a heavily guarded secret.  Langford also has a new gig at Netflix. She will play the lead role in “Cursed,” a spin on the tale of King Arthur. In that series, Langford will play ‘Nimue’, a teenage heroine with a mysterious gift who is destined to become the powerful (and tragic) Lady of the Lake.

★ Mike Tyson is shopping a new TV show, loosely based on his life now as a marijuana grower and marketer. Tyson will star in the scripted comedy, called “Rolling With the Punches”. The former heavyweight champ is shooting the show at his Tyson Ranch office in El Segundo, CA, with Chuck Zito reprising his real-life role as Iron Mike’s bodyguard and comedian Russell Peters playing his “useless best friend.” Tyson’s business partner says he expects the show to be on air in five months.
(Who’s gonna tell Tyson “No”?)

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Justin Bieber – is apparently not in a hurry to work on new music now that he is a married man.  Reports are that he has decided to put his career on hold for now as he enjoys his new life alongside Hailey Baldwin. She, however, is said to have a number of projects that she’d like to do, according to an insider.
• Justin Timberlake – denies that he stole music from a disco star for his 2006 song, ‘Damn Girl’ and has asked that the lawsuit filed against him be thrown out of court. In 2016, PK Music Performance sued Timberlake, Will.i.Am and Sony Music, accusing them of ripping off the song, ‘A New Day Is Here At Last’.  The song was a hit for the 70s disco band, “A Taste of Honey”.
• Katharine McPhee – has been forced to postpone her tour due to “vocal fatigue”.  She tweeted on Friday that “It is with deep regret that I must postpone these live dates… I’ve been struggling with extreme vocal fatigue these last few weeks following my Broadway run, and have been on strict vocal rest for weeks.”  Dates will be rescheduled for next year.
• George Michael – Some unreleased music of his will be featured in the new movie “Last Christmas”. While his holiday classic of the same name will appear in the film, it will also premiere brand-new unreleased material.  Michael died Christmas Day, 2016.
• Lenny Kravitz – says Virgin Records offered him his first record deal within five minutes. He was only granted a five-minute meeting with record executives, but they were so blown away by his music that he was quickly offered a contract. He had already recorded his first album on borrowed money.  His new album is called “Raise Vibration”.
• ZZ Top – guitarist Billy Gibbons is one of many guest stars on William Shatner’s new Christmas album, “Shatner Claus”, which was released Friday.  Gibbons appears on ‘Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer’.  Other cameos on the album are made by Iggy Pop, Henry Rollins, members of the Cars, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Jethro Tull, and many more.
• Sinéad O’Connor – has converted to Islam and changed her name to Shuhada Davitt, which means “witness” in Arabic.  In 2017, she legally switched her name to Magda Davitt. O’Connor, who is a long-time critic of the Catholic Church, said that converting to Islam was the proper “conclusion of any intelligent theologian’s journey.”
• Sara Evans – tweeted her frustration with state of country radio.  Quote: “The obvious and most maddening change to me has been the blatant stonewalling of female artists.  One day I’m a country artist with hits on country radio and the next, I can’t even get one spin on ANY of my new music.”
• Keith Urban — turned 51 on Friday, and his wife Nicole Kidman Instagrammed a picture of herself and Urban together in what appears to be their kitchen. She’s giving him a hug and kiss, with a half-eaten chocolate cake in the foreground, and balloons in the background.  He also posted a pic of his bus filled with red and white balloons, courtesy of his crew and band members.

HAPPY BATH:
Yes, a hot bath certainly goes a long way toward making you feel relaxed, but new research has found that taking a warm bath twice a week may also help to relieve symptoms of depression.  Even more so than exercise.  Trial subjects were assigned to either soak in a 40C degree bath for up to 30 minutes twice a week or to take part in two 45-minute sessions of moderately intense aerobic exercise (walking, jogging, stretching and strength training).  They found that those who took regular baths saw a significant improvement in their depression score, a reduction of nearly six points, compared to a three-point improvement for those who exercised.  The researchers suggest that taking warm baths may help those suffering from depression because it changes our circadian rhythm (or “body clock”) that tells us when to eat and sleep, which is disturbed among people who suffer from depression. The study results suggest that bathing regularly may be a more effective means of helping to treat depression than exercise.
(Regular bathing also improves the mood of those around you!)
(Maybe we can exercise….THEN bathe?)
(They didn’t happen to have a glass or two of red wine while in the hot-tub, did they?)

LEST WE FORGET:
Now, even the act of showing your respect for those who serve or served our country is going digital.  The Royal Canadian Legion has made ‘digital poppies’ available to Canadians in time for Remembrance Day on November 11.  Digital poppies can be created, dedicated, and shared via social media, and personalized with stories and images.  Not only is it a revolutionary new way to observe the day, but this is the first-time online donations have ever been accepted by the Legion’s national poppy fund, which helps pay for services for veterans and their families.  Legion deputy director Danny Martin says that digital poppies were conceived as a way to reach younger Canadians on the platforms they use most.  The digital poppy campaign is being backed by prominent Canadians including Margaret Atwood, Justin Bieber and figure skater Joannie Rochette.  But don’t worry, traditional poppies are in no danger of going extinct.  Martin says this new initiative is about reaching out to an audience that isn’t being reached at the moment.
