BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ They say that no good deed goes unpunished, and Lindsay Lohan found that out the hard way.  While leaving a Russian nightclub, she came upon a homeless family sleeping on the street. She offered to buy the family, who are apparently Syrian refugees, a hotel for the night, but they declined.  For some reason, Lohan then accused the mother of human trafficking and encouraged the boys to run off with her. The encounter, which was live-streamed, ended with the mother punching Lohan in the face and knocking her to the ground.

★ Rosie O’Donnell might be in the midst of a television comeback. O’Donnell, who last appeared as a co-host on “The View”, is reportedly being tapped to replace Julie Chen on CBS’s “The Talk”. While the competition is stiff, producers are looking for someone with their own star power who brings an interesting point of view to the show.  Reports are that Rosie is at the top of the list for Chen’s replacement and producers think she could be a huge ratings draw.

★ Princess Eugenie’s royal wedding is happening October 12th.  Apparently, the cost of security for this little get-together will cost in the neighborhood of two million pounds (US $2.6 million).  Understandably, taxpayers aren’t thrilled about the high cost of another royal wedding, especially considering that Eugenie isn’t one of the “main” working royals, and that she and her family are very well off. Now, there’s a petition floating around with thousands of signatures asking that the royals cover the cost of the wedding.

★ Wonder Woman Gal Gadot has signed on to star in Kenneth Branagh’s “Death on the Nile” adaptation. Gadot will play heiress Linnet Ridgeway Doyle in the new movie, which will hit theatres in December, 2019.  The film will center on Poirot’s murder investigation on a cruise ship sailing down the Nile in Egypt.

BS MUSIC NOTES:

• Kanye West – was musical guest for the SNL season 44 premiere on Saturday.  But Ye wasn’t actually SNL’s first choice.  Ariana Grande was originally scheduled to perform, but backed out earlier in the week “for emotional reasons”, according to producer Lorne Michaels.
• The Black Eyed Peas — performed in Melbourne, Australia, on Saturday as the pre-game entertainment at an Australia Football League game.  During the performance, will.i.a.m appeared to check his phone mid-song. Many of those watching took to Twitter to call him out until one fan offered a reasonable explanation: will.i.am was livestreaming the performance on social media, and he made sure the livestream was continuing after the phone accidentally fell onto the stage.
• Tupac Shakur – More “new” music is coming.  His estate has settled a five-year-old lawsuit with Death Row Records, with a cash settlement and a large quantity of unreleased recordings being awarded to his estate.  At least 2 new Tupac albums will soon be released.
• Cher – was happy to receive the call telling her she is a Kennedy Center honoree, but she admits that it could be awkward if President Trump is on hand for the ceremony.  A regular at anti-Trump rallies and marches, she ranks among the most outspoken celebrities against the U.S. president. The White House says no decisions have been made on whether Trump will participate in this year’s Kennedy Center Honors program.
• Led Zeppelin — A U.S. appeals court has thrown out a jury’s verdict that Led Zeppelin did not copy an obscure 1960s instrumental for the intro to their classic ‘Stairway to Heaven’. The lawsuit claimed the song’s famous riff was copied from the song ‘Taurus’ by the band Spirit.  A new trial has been ordered.  (In a courtroom was not the Zep reunion we were hoping for…)
• Jefferson Airplane — co-founder and singer/guitarist Marty Balin died Thursday at 76. He had recently filed a lawsuit after being left “totally disabled” after a stay at a New York City hospital.  Balin alleged that staff botched his recovery from open-heart surgery in 2016, leaving him without half his tongue, his vocal cords, left thumb and mobility in his left hand.
• Today, the country music community will pause for a moment of silence to mark the one-year anniversary of the shooting at the 2017 Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas. Radio stations, record labels and other organizations will participate.  58 seconds of silence will be observed at 10:05AM PT (1:05PM ET / 12:05PM CT) — in honor of the 58 people killed during the tragedy. (***See “Today’s Music Events”, below***)
• Charlie Worsham — married his fiancée, Kristen Korzenowski, at a ceremony in Nashville on Saturday Sept. 22.  Worsham says: “The best part of the day — or my whole life for that matter — was seeing Kristen walk down the aisle.”

EYE EYE:
There is definitely a trend over the past several years where fewer people look you in the eye during a conversation. A recent study found that if you want to make a solid connection with the person with whom you are speaking, eye contact should be made about 60-70% of the time.  Researchers found that we aren’t doing a very good job of it, with test subjects only maintaining eye contact 30-60% of the time.  Experts say that looking someone in the eye is a way of showing respect, understanding, and attention. The appropriate duration of eye contact varies from situation to situation, and culture to culture, but most agree that consistent eye contact lasting up to 7 seconds is appropriate, and eye contact longer than that can signal interest or even attraction.
(Or that you want to beat someone up!)
(I know a lot of people who can’t keep their eyes off their phone for 7 seconds…)

PICTURE THIS:
L.A. authorities are warning against “Doing it for the ‘Gram’” after noticing a dangerous trend: people risking their lives and doing dangerous stunts – all for the perfect selfie.  There are many locations in the area such as Eaton Canyon and Hermit Falls, which are favorite locations for daredevils to post selfies of themselves on steep cliffs, or jumping into pools of water below. Last year, search-and-rescue teams with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department conducted 681 missions, the most in five years.  And the problem isn’t limited to the California hills.   In Montreal, coyotes attacked people who got too close when trying for a photo. In New York State’s Catskill Mountains, 4 people have died in the last 4 years taking selfies near Kaaterskill Falls.  Officials in some areas are considering a public safety campaign on the dangers of “extreme selfies.”
(The most danger I’ve ever put myself in for a pic is when I posted one of my wife before she had done her make-up!)
(Maybe we need a “no idiot” filter?)

NOT-SO-HAPPY MEAL:
A study has found that in spite of the fact that many fast food restaurants offer healthier meal options in their kids’ menus, many children are not benefiting from them.  Researchers found that most parents of school age children opted to buy their kids’ meals from the regular menu rather than from the children’s menu.  And when they did order from the kids’ menu, more than half added an unhealthy side such as French fries, chips, or a sugary drink.
(At least they’re getting ‘healthy’ portions!)
(Or they order a salad and ask for 9 sweet & sour packs as dressing…)
(I say that as long as no one wants to use a straw, we’re good!)

THINGS YOU’RE DOING THAT MAKE YOU LOOK OLDER:
⇒ Hanging onto clothes you’ve had forever:  While you don’t need to jump on every clothing trend, rotating out your worn-out clothing and accessories can have a major impact on how old people assume you are.  (But my velour V-necks won’t ever go out of style, right?)
⇒ Keeping the same haircut forever:  Styles change, and if you keep a style for a long time, it can make you look like you’re still living in that time period.  (But I AM still living in the same period!)
⇒ Not standing up straight:  That minor slouch could be a major giveaway about your age. Poor posture can make you look significantly older—as well as heavier than you actually are.
⇒ Not grooming (or over-grooming) your eyebrows:  While over-plucking your brows can make you look older, doing nothing to them won’t help, either. Those long, unkempt hairs make you look older, plus they draw attention to the wrinkles on your forehead and around your eyes.  (Which I thought my nose hairs provided a nice distraction from…)
⇒ Skimping on sleep:  While being able to pull all-nighters may be a youthful characteristic, getting inadequate sleep is actually making you age faster. Sleep deprivation can increase aging at a cellular level.
(Those things…and losing hair!)
