Let’s See What BS We Can SCARE Up…!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ More than four years after she broke off their engagement, Sofia Vergara can’t get Nick Loeb out of her life. Loeb has been waging a legal war to gain custody of two female embryos that he and Vergara created and froze while they were a couple, despite multiple judgements against him. According to a new report, the real reason he won’t give up his fight for the embryos isn’t because of his desire to be a father, as he’s claimed. A TMZ source says “It’s pure and simple revenge”. The report states that Loeb is still angry that Vergara dumped him and “his end goal is to ruin her marriage.”  Vergara has been married to Joe Manganiello since 2015.

★ Thanksgiving came early for some lucky citizens in Houston, Texas on Sunday. Matthew McConaughey marked ‘National First Responders Day’ by surprising police, firefighters, 911 operators, emergency room doctors and nurses with personally delivered turkey dinners and other treats. The recepients were all on the front lines following the devastating Hurricane Harvey that hit Houston on August 25, causing flooding and widespread damage.

★ Zoe Kravitz has been secretly engaged to her significant other Karl Glusman for the last eight months. According her, Glusman was planning to propose to her during a romantic trip to Paris, but work intervened so he popped the question while they were at home instead. And she says the atmosphere wasn’t exactly the stuff of romance novels.  Quote: ”I was in sweatpants. I think I was a little drunk. ‘I could feel his heart beating so fast – I was like, ‘Baby, are you OK?’ I was actually worried about him!” Zoe – whose father is singer Lenny Kravitz and whose mother is actress Lisa Bonet, currently stars in “Big Little Lies.”

★ John Cena will NOT be a part of WWE’s “Crown Jewel” pay-per-view event in Saudi Arabia this weekend.  Cena reportedly refused to go to Saudi Arabia because of the controversy surrounding the murder of former Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Turkey.  Apparently, WWE has written in another wrestler to take his place.

Donald Glover – was forced to cancel the final few dates of his “This Is America” tour in the US following an injury which occurred while on stage in Dallas last month, and says that is still unable to put on “100 percent shows”.

• Ariana Grande – Her ex-fiancée Pete Davidson has apparently changed his phone number in an effort to sever all ties with her. Reports are that The Saturday Night Live comedian is trying to “distance himself” from Grande, and focus on himself.
• KISS – have announced the initial dates for their “End of the Road” farewell tour.  They’ll begin the planned 3-year run with a 3-month North American trek that will start in Vancouver on Jan. 31.  They will hit Europe in the summer  Dates here: http://ultimateclassicrock.com/kiss-end-of-the-road-tour-dates/
• Culture Club – Boy George’s group say the ”door is always open” for Jon Moss to rejoin the band once he has had a break. The drummer decided not to be a part of their European tour in support of their new album “Life”, which kicks off November 9 in Nottingham, as he wants to spend time with his family following their American tour.
• Lynyrd Skynyrd — have announced dates for a spring 2019 farewell tour of Canada. They will play a 2-week, 8-show run across the country starting March 2 in Ottawa, ON.  Randy Bachman will open.
• Molly Hatchet — Jimmy Farrar, who sang for the group from 1980-82, has died at 68. A Facebook fan page says he passed away of congestive heart failure, and kidney and liver failure. He suffered three heart attacks in 2017.  Farrar also formed Gator Country, a band comprised of former members of Molly Hatchet.
• Cole Swindell – has scored his eighth #1 hit, with ‘Break Up in the End’.  The song has reached over 39 million Spotify streams.  It is the debut single off Cole’s third studio album, “All of It”, which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart.
• Kelsea Ballerini — will hit the road this spring for her “Miss Me More” tour, which is also the name of her current single.  Brett Young will join on all dates, as well as opener Brandon Ratcliff. The 14-show tour will kick off on April 11 in Salisbury, Md.

ANOTHER REASON TO HATE BAD WEATHER:
Swedish researchers have found that when the weather is bad, more people have heart attacks. In a study published in JAMA Cardiology, scientists report that lower temperature, higher wind speeds and less sunshine are all associated with a greater incidence of heart attack.  The link was most closely associated with temperature.  A temperature decrease from 20 degrees Celsius (68F) to -1 (30F) degrees was associated with a 14 percent increased heart attack risk. Wind speed increases from 0 to 58 kph (36mph) resulted in a 7 percent increase in risk. And when the hours of sunshine without clouds decreased from 10 hours a day to none, heart attack risk went up by 11 percent.  The authors of the study say that changes in physical activity and diet in colder weather may affect heart health. And depression, which can be caused by reduced hours of sunshine, also increases cardiac risk.  They also note that the fact that flu season coincides with colder weather could also be a factor.
(So could your wife’s cold feet on your back when you’re sleeping!)
(Oh, no.  I feel a temperature decrease like that every time my mother-in-law walks in the room!)
(On the plus side, I’d much rather have a heart attack in winter, because who wants to spend the summer recovering?)

20% BATTERY REMAINING:
Why are we all such copycats when it comes to yawning?  While there’s no 100% scientific consensus about why yawns are contagious, there are couple of leading theories:
⇒ Humans “catch” yawns because we’re a particularly compassionate species, and it’s a way of communicating empathy. One study concluded that children were essentially immune to contagious yawning until the age of four—around the time when empathy is learned for most kids.
⇒ Yawning regulates the brain’s internal temperature, working almost like a radiator. This phenomenon was actually observed by researchers at Binghamton University, who studied the behavior of parrots and found that as the temperature in the room increased, the birds’ yawning increased too.  How would that play into contagious yawning? Researchers believe that if we see someone else yawning, we are tipped off that we should start yawning to keep our brains cool, too.
(I yawn so much that people think I’m always crying!)
(It’s contagious, all right.  I get it from listening to my neighbor talk!)
(So could someone explain why I yawn when my dog does?  And vice versa?)

HAVE A GOOD HALLOWEEN:
Here are some variances to some traditional Halloween customs that could help ensure that everyone has a happy Halloween:
➢ Teal is the new Orange: Teal-colored pumpkins announce to visitors that you have nut-free and non-candy items to offer kids with allergies or other restrictions that make it hard to find suitable treats.
➢ Call in the ‘Switch Witch’:  Even if your kid has no food issues, you might not want them to eat a lot of candy, so some families call in the ‘Candy Fairy’, ‘Halloween Fairy’, or the ‘Great Pumpkin’, but increasingly, the ‘Switch Witch’ is the Halloween hero.  Kids get to indulge on Halloween night, and before they go to bed, they pick out an agreed-upon number of treats to save for the future. The rest is packed up for the Switch Witch, who visits at night when children are sleeping.  The loot is placed out for the witch to grab, and in exchange, she leaves a new toy, book, or even money.
➢ Mix it Up:  Shift the emphasis away from gorging on sweets and on to family-oriented experiences: an afternoon of crafts, a movie night, a special family dinner before trick-or-treating, or even a party.
(Are these the kind of people who hand out fruit to trick-or-treaters?)

BULL’S BITS

BS HALLOWEEN WACK FACTS:
✓ Most experts trace trick-or-treating to the European practice of “mumming,” in which costume-wearing participants would go door-to-door performing choreographed dances, songs and plays in exchange for treats.
✓ Halloween is more Irish than St. Patrick’s Day.  Some say Halloween’s origins come from a Celtic festival for the dead called “Samhain.” Celts believed the ghosts of the dead roamed Earth on this holiday, so people would dress in costumes and leave “treats” out on their front doors to appease the roaming spirits.  St. Patrick’s Day, however, was invented in America.
✓ If you’d been around for the earliest Halloween celebrations, you might have worn animal skins and heads.  According to ancient Roman records, tribes located in today’s Germany and France traditionally wore costumes of animal heads and skins to connect to spirits of the dead.
✓ Halloween used to be a great day to find your soulmate.  In Ireland, people celebrated Halloween by playing romantic fortune-telling games.  These games were said to predict who they’d marry, and when.
✓ In some American towns, Halloween was originally referred to as “Cabbage Night.”  This came from a Scottish fortune-telling game, where girls used cabbage stumps to predict information about their future husbands.
✓ Studies have shown that Halloween actually makes kids act more evil.  Putting costume-wearing kids into groups and introducing a clear object of desire, such as candy, has been shown to lead to “deindividuation.” This psychological term explains what happens when a group of maturing young minds begins to care less about the consequences of their individual actions, leading them to do things that they might not do alone.
