Sheet For Brains!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network is being accused of stealing an actress’ work and passing it off as their own, and the woman is suing.  Amber Brenner has filed a federal lawsuit over the show “Love Is.” The show was created and produced by Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil, and is said to be based on their real-life relationship in Hollywood. Brenner claims she gave Salim a copy of her work in 2016, and they used her idea and turned it into a show they pitched around Hollywood, eventually ending up at OWN Network as “Love Is.”
(Well, Oprah doesn’t OWN it at all then, does she?)

★ Season 3 of “The Crown” will feature a young Prince Charles meeting Camilla Parker Bowles for the first time, and focuses on the early days of their romance. Netflix has yet to officially confirm who has been cast as Camilla – but images leaked from filming appear to reveal that Emerald Fennell of “Call the Midwife” will play Parker Bowles opposite Josh O’Conner, who was confirmed to play Charles earlier this year.

★ Alfonso Ribeiro has denied ever dating Jada Pinkett Smith after she made the claim in a new episode of her Facebook series. Pinkett Smith said that she went on a date with ‘Carlton’ of “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” before she met her husband Will Smith.  She claimed that Ribeiro took her for a ride on his motorcycle.  He replied on Twitter, saying, “Sorry Jada. Your memory is a little off. We went to lunch with your family when we both guest-starred on ‘A Different World’ the year before you became a regular.”  Jada responded “my fault Alf… I thought it was a date” along with a laughing emoji and a red heart.
(I guess she never got the chance to “Do the Carlton!”)

★ Corey Feldman has announced that his documentary exposing an alleged pedophile ring in Hollywood responsible for the sexual abuse of him and his late friend Corey Haim will be titled “Truth: The Rape of 2 Coreys”.  Feldman has long alleged that a group of powerful men in the movie business sexually abused him and his late friend and frequent co-star when they were child actors.  Corey Haim died in 2010 at the age of 38.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Nicki Minaj – is being sued by folk singer Tracy Chapman for sampling one of her songs without permission.  The song ‘Sorry’ was supposed to be a part of Minaj’s new album but she couldn’t get clearance to use the sample from Chapman’s song ‘Baby Can I Hold You’, so it was pulled. Chapman claims that Minaj has made the song available online anyway.
• Ariana Grande – says she’s “ready” to head out on tour in support of her recent album “Sweetener”.  Fans were unsure whether she would go ahead with the shows, following her announcement that she was taking a break to, as she put it, “take care of myself for a lil while.”
• Jon James McMurray – The Canadian rapper was killed on Saturday when he fell to his death in British Columbia while filming a video in which he was walking on the wing of a plane.  The 34-year-old — who was known as an accomplished free skier and stuntman — had been working on the shoot for months, training “intensively,” according to a statement from his team.
• Mariah Carey — is set to star as an advisor on ‘The Voice’. She’ll join judge Jennifer Hudson on the current season of the NBC talent competition, where she will give advice and assistance to the hopeful singers ahead of the show’s Knockout Rounds.
• Jimmy Page — has loaned a pair of tapestries from his private collection, which display scenes from legends of King Arthur and the search for the Holy Grail – to Tate Britain for a new exhibition of the work of 19th century artist Edward Burne-Jones. Quote:  ”They’re the most extraordinary pieces and never in my wildest dreams…did I ever think they would come to the Tate.”
• Rush – Geddy Lee says that while it is likely that he will make another solo album at some point, “There’s no chance of seeing Rush on tour again as Alex [Lifeson], Geddy, Neil [Peart]. But would you see one of us or two of us or three of us? That’s possible.”
• Def Leppard – will co-headline Download Festival 2019 alongside Slipknot and Tool.  Frontman Joe Elliott has confirmed that Leppard will be performing their classic 1987 album “Hysteria” in full at what will be their only UK appearance of 2019.
• Dierks Bentley – will executive-produce a new TV show. Set at a bar in Nashville, the still-untitled comedy will follow a group of singers and songwriters through the ups and downs of trying to make it big in Music City. The series originates from writer and producer Jack Burditt, the creator of “Last Man Standing” and “Modern Family”.
• Chris Stapleton – will headline Country Music Thunder Arizona, along with Dierks Bentley, Tim McGraw and Brett Eldredge.  Also, in the lineup for 2019 are Brothers Osborne, Trace Adkins, Abby Anderson and more. The event is scheduled for April 11-14, 2019.

HAVE YOU HERD?
If you’ve never thought of snuggling up with a 1,000 lb farm animal, you wouldn’t be the only one.  But it is actually becoming a thing. ‘Cow cuddling’ seems to be the hot new wellness trend.  That’s right, people are paying to spend quality time relaxing in a field or a barn with cows.  And horses.  You might know that it is a fact that humans can decrease their stress levels by interacting with animals.  Mountain Horse Farm in upstate New York has a program offering the ‘Horse & Cow Experience,’ where people can spend time connecting with the large barnyard animals. You can pet them, brush them, play with them, or simply cuddle.  How does this help the “cuddlers”?  The farm’s website explains that “Cows have a body temperature that is slightly higher than humans and their heart rate is lower than ours. Cuddling up with a cow, feeling that lower heart rate and higher body temperature, is very relaxing.”  You can book a cow-cuddling appointment at 60-minutes for $75, or go for the complete “Horse & Cow Experience” at $300 for a 90-minute session. And if you don’t think that three’s a crowd when one’s a cow, you’re allowed to bring a friend.
(They say it’s the wellness trend of the future, but it very well may also be the wellness trend of the pasture!)
(Is this like the politically correct version of ‘cow-tipping’?)
(You’re right.  I wouldn’t be the only one.  I’d be with a cow!)

EVERYBODY IN THE POOL:
With last nights Powerball lottery jackpot hitting over $620 million, and Tuesday night’s Mega Millions lottery jackpot climbing to $1.6 billion, the highest in U.S. lottery history, lottery pools are flooding offices.  Here are the do’s and don’ts of office lottery pools:
DO:
→ Designate a leader:  Make sure he or she is highly organized. Because this isn’t just about collecting money and buying tickets.  (And a criminal records check can’t hurt either…)
→ Give everyone copies or photos of tickets:  This is an important duty of the leader.  In 2013, a group of Indiana hairstylists sued their co-worker after that person claimed she had purchased a $9.5-million-winning ticket with her own money — not the pool’s money.  (And that person might be working in your office RIGHT NOW!)
→ Email the list of players (every time you play): This helps protect the pool leader. At a certain cut-off time before each drawing, email everyone to say who’s paid. This prevents random coworkers from trying to cash in post-victory.  (In the grand scheme of things, that’d be a nice problem to have…)
DON’T:
→ Use cash:  Pay your pool leader electronically – using PayPal or Venmo — so you have a record of all payments made. That also help keep track of who’s in.
→ Make verbal promises: A verbal “IOU” won’t cut it if the pool wins and you say, “Well, I was going to pay.” (My IOU doesn’t seem to cut it with my co-workers in ANY situation anymore…)
→ Get overwhelmed:  It’s a lot of work.  Who said winning an avalanche of cash was easy? But if anyone — especially the pool leader — starts feeling overwhelmed, there are apps for that.
(But hey, going it alone, your chances are 1 in 302,575,350. Team up with some coworkers, and you might improve your odds to, say, a much more optimistic 13 in 302,575,350.  NOW you’re talkin’!)
(And the other great thing about being in a pool with your co-workers is that if you win, you never have to see them again!)

DID YOU KNOW?

The Japanese word “tsundoku” has been making great gains in popularity in the English language recently.  Loosely translated, it refers to the practice of piling up books you might never read, either because you like to collect books for the sake of having them, or because you’ve collected so many that you know there is no chance that you’ll ever have time to read them all.
(I only pile up books to replace the missing leg on my coffee table…)
