Sheet Happens!

BS SUBSCRIBER NOTE:
The Bull Sheet is back following the Canadian Thanksgiving Holiday.  All subscribers have received credit for the missed service day.  And, now…The Sheet (with no leftovers!):

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Michelle Obama knows the power her name carries, which is why she had to personally sign off on the use of her famous moniker to sell swag like candles, pins and yoga mats. The former first lady has applied to obtain a trademark registration for a merchandising line bearing the name of her upcoming book, “Becoming.” The specific phrase Obama applied for is “Becoming Michelle Obama,” and according to the application, she plans to slap the slogan on candles, tote bags, pillows, mugs and t-shirts.
(And once she starts selling this stuff, Michelle will be “becoming” richer!)

★ “Saturday Night Live’s” Pete Davidson thinks Kanye West needs help, and he used his spot on “Weekend Update” to tell him to get on medication for his mental health issues. Davidson called Kanye’s post-show ramblings “one of the worst, one of the most awkward, things I’ve ever seen while working here.” Davidson, who has talked openly about his own struggles with mental health issues, added that: “Being mentally ill is not an excuse to act like a jackass. I’m quoting my therapist, my mom and my mailman.”

★ Everyone knows that Tom Cruise is a dedicated Scientologist, but who would have guessed his beliefs would ever get in the way of his family. Cruise has the right to visit his daughter, Suri, for 10 days per month, but sources claim he skips the visits because she is not a Scientologist. Cruise shares his daughter with ex-wife Katie Holmes, who also is not a Scientologist. The pair tied the knot in 2006 and broke up six years later. The divorce reportedly surprised Cruise, who allegedly forced Holmes to sign an agreement to never talk about the church in public.

★ You may have heard that Meghan Markle’s sister Samantha showed up to Kensington Palace uninvited last week, but security declined to let her in. When she wasn’t allowed entrance, she gave a letter to Kensington Palace security and then went to go check out some souvenirs with Harry and Meghan’s faces on them. What you might NOT know is that even though Samantha issued a public apology to Meghan a few days ago, her visit to Kensington may have been less-than-genuine because paparazzi were on hand for the whole thing, meaning that it all could just have been a stunt for Samantha to get more attention.
(Or money…)

★ Another ‘Halloween’ movie is reportedly already in the works. The reboot of the popular horror franchise – which takes place 40 years after the first movie, and sees Jamie Lee Curtis reprise her role as Laurie Strode – isn’t due to hit cinema screens until October 19, but sources say that work has already begun on the next “Halloween” film, with an unnamed writer on board working on a script.

• Iggy Azalea – has scrapped her “Bad Girls” tour.  She took to Twitter to confirm that the tour won’t be happening, saying that she is “genuinely disappointed” but “The choice was out of my hands and not my call to make.” Rapper CupcakKe — who was slated to open the shows, tweeted last week that she would no longer be appearing on the tour, citing “a change of plans.”
• Robbie Williams — has quit Twitter. He says he will hire a team of people to post on his social media accounts on his behalf, because although he loves reading positive comments from fans, the criticism he gets can make it feel as though his “world is crashing in”.
• ***UPDATE***Ozzy Osbourne — has postponed two additional shows after undergoing hand surgery over the weekend.  On Saturday, he announced he was rescheduling that night’s concert in Mountain View, California, because he needed surgery for an infection in his hand. Now, two more California shows are being rescheduled: tonight in Chula Vista and Thursday at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
• Tina Turner – has revealed that she underwent a kidney transplant last year.  In her new book, “My Love Story”, she says her attempts to try treat high blood pressure with homeopathic treatments led to her kidneys functioning at just 20 per cent. Her husband Erwin Bach offered up his own kidney and the operation went ahead in April 2017.
• Eagles – have announced that they are taking their tour down under.  A run of five dates in New Zealand and Australia begins in Auckland N.Z. on Feb. 26.
• Fleetwood Mac – Their set list on their first tour with Neil Finn and Mike Campbell includes nods to the guitarists’ former bands, including the Split Enz hit ‘I Got You’, Crowded House’s ‘Don’t Dream It’s Over’ and Tom Petty’s ‘Free Fallin’’.

ONCE A PLAYER…
It should come as no surprise that those who play professional sports are, by definition, competitive.  So, it is also a no-brainer that pro athletes would probably be very interested in the hottest video game in the world.  But does playing “Fortnite” create a distraction that can negatively affect their performance?  Some think so.  In fact, the NHL’s Vancouver Canucks has actually instituted a ban on the game for players this season.  One team GM has gone on record as calling the video game a “major distraction/obsession” to players. On the other hand, some teams encourage “video-game nights” for their players as a team-bonding exercise.  Although there doesn’t seem to be definitive word on whether video games have a detrimental effect on what players do on the field or on the ice, one fact remains:  Boston Red Sox pitcher David Price had a 2-4 record in 2018 until he gave up playing Fortnite because of carpal tunnel issues.  He went 9-2 the rest of the season.
(It shouldn’t be a problem as long as they can answer the “Call of Duty…”)
(You can’t say it doesn’t help with their “shooting skills”!!)
(Hey, at least it keeps them out of the bars!)

NO INTEREST:
A big-name financial planner in the U.S. says that the number-one wealth-killer in household budgets is…car payments.  In an article for Forbes, Jeff Rose writes, “These days, we blame everything but our car payments for our inability to get ahead.”  He says the average monthly car payment is US$523 (The average car payment in Canada is $630). Keep in mind that with a new car, you’ll probably enjoy better fuel economy, fewer repair bills and increased safety, but if you find that you are having trouble saving for retirement, he has a few suggestions:  For one thing, avoid the newer 8-year financing option.  Five years used to be the maximum car payment term, so try to stick to that.  How about buying a cheaper car and directing some of your car payment budget to savings?  He also suggests experimenting to see if your family can get by with just one vehicle.
(We could, but then only one of us could have a job…)
(My average monthly car MECHANIC payment is $523!)
(The best way to get back on your feet is to miss two car payments!)

THINGS YOU SHOULD NOT DO BEFORE BED (to get a good night’s sleep):
► Work:  The blue light emitted from your computer is bad enough, but the stress that almost always accompanies work communications can keep your brain active when you’re trying to shut down.  (Then why do I never have a problem sleeping at work?)
► Work out:  Since exercise can increase our heart rate and circulation, it often puts our bodies in a hyper-alert state. When paired with the rush of endorphins you get from a workout, that late night trip to the gym might keep you from nodding off.  (Phew!  Dodged a bullet there…for the last 8 years!)
► Watch TV:  Not only is the blue light emitted from devices like televisions linked to suppressed melatonin production, meaning you’re likely to feel less sleepy after watching a show, researchers have also linked screen time and insomnia among adolescents.  (Please explain then, why I always wake up on the couch in a puddle of drool at 3 o’clock in the morning…)
► Text your friends:  Text conversations — especially long ones — can keep your mind engaged well beyond when you’ve actually stopped texting, and that blue light from your device can affect you here, too.
► Eat spicy foods:  Spicy foods (as well as greasy ones) contribute to acid reflux, which can make it harder to sleep comfortably and may even wake you up in the middle night.  (That’s not the only condition that spicy foods can contribute to!)
► Dial up the thermostat:  You may want to make your room all warm and cozy before bed, but doing so may actually interfere with your rest. People sleep best in rooms that are between 60- and 67-degrees Fahrenheit (16-19 Celsius), so it’s best to play it cool if you want to wake up feeling refreshed.  (And if you’re still too warm, just touch your wife’s feet!)
► Cuddle with your pet:  As much as we love them, having pets in the bed is often a recipe for a sleepless night. That doesn’t mean you should banish them to another room, though.  Research suggests that having pets nearby—as long as they’re not actually in bed with you, can actually help you get a more restful sleep.  (Because what’s more relaxing than listening to a Labrador burp and snore all night?)
(Wow.  What’s left that I CAN do?)
