BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Demi Lovato – Her mother Dianna De La Garza says Lovato has reached 90 days of sobriety.  She has been in rehab since being hospitalized for an apparent drug overdose in July.
• Kanye West — has designed some new clothing — but if you don’t share his political views, it’s not for you. There are three different t-shirts and a hat available for sale on the BLEXIT website, all of which say “Design by Kanye West.” “BLEXIT,” is meant to represent “the black exit from the Democrat party.”
• 50 Cent — found an innovative way to reignite his nearly twenty-year-old feud with Ja Rule.  Fiddy apparently personally purchased 200 seats near the stage for Rule’s gig on November 9th in Texas – just so they will be empty come showtime.
• David Bowie – his widow and former supermodel Iman says she doesn’t ever plan to remarry.  Quote: “I mentioned my husband the other day with someone, and they said to me, ‘You mean your late husband?’ I said, no, he is always going to be my husband.”
• Roy Orbison – His son Alex understands there are skeptics when it comes to his dad’s hologram tour, 30 years after his death.  He says of the trek, which some have called gimmicky or disrespectful, “The reason why it is (happening) now is just because finally the holograms have made a huge jump with the technology so they look much more real…But there’s a benefit too from the amount of attention of doing something first.” The “Roy Orbison In Dreams” tour runs through November.
• The Kinks — Frontman Ray Davies says he is considering recording with his brother Dave in 2019, after the experience of listening to archive material for the 50th anniversary version of their album “The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society.”  He indicated they may do an album together, which may also involve the other surviving original member, drummer Mick Avory.
• Dierks Bentley – will hit the road next year for his “2019 Burning Man Tour”.  Jon Pardi, Tenille Townes and Hot Country Knights will open the shows. The tour is named after the hit single “Burning Man” with Brothers Osborne.  It is set to start Jan. 17 in Hamilton, ON, and run through March 30 in Grand Rapids, MI.
• Stompin’ Tom Connors — his iconic ‘The Hockey Song’ is being immortalized in the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame. The catchy ditty celebrating “the good ol’ hockey game” was honoured on Saturday as the Toronto Maple Leafs hosted the Winnipeg Jets.  During the ceremony, the late singer’s son Tom Connors Jr. was presented with a hall of fame plaque, and country singer Tim Hicks performed the song.

THIS WEEK’S VIDEO RELEASES:

• “The Darkest Minds” (PG-13, Mystery/Suspense):  Imprisoned by an adult world that now fears everyone under 18, a group of teens form a resistance group to fight back and reclaim control of their future. (Amandla Stenberg, Mandy Moore)
• “Mandy” (R-Rated, Action/Thriller):  The enchanted lives of a couple in a secluded forest are brutally shattered by a nightmarish hippie cult and their demon-biker henchmen, propelling a man into a spiraling, surreal rampage of vengeance. (Nicolas Cage, Andrea Riseborough)
• “Our House” (Not Rated, Drama/Mystery):  A young genius accidentally invents a device that amplifies the paranormal activity within his family’s house, possibly bringing back the spirits of loved ones, and unleashing things far worse. (John Ralston, Thomas Mann)

SCARY IDEA:
October 31st is definitely the spookiest day of the year.  But that could change if a group called the “Halloween & Costume Association” gets their way.  They have started a Change.org petition to move Halloween in the U.S. to the last Saturday of October.  They claim that if kids could go door-to-door during the daylight hours of a Saturday, they would be safer, and besides, according to them: “Why cram it into 2 rushed evening weekday hours when it deserves a full day!?!”  As of Sunday, the petition, titled the “Saturday Halloween Movement,” had garnered almost 26,000 signatures, far exceeding its original goal of 7,500.
(Hey!  Hold on here…This is about a lot more than changing the day that kids go trick-or-treating.  This is about changing the date that Halloween candy goes on sale for half-price!)
(Uh, has anyone checked with the Great Pumpkin about his availability on weekends?)
(Over the years, some have called Halloween sacrilegious.  That’s an argument for another day, but THIS idea, to me, is sacrilegious!)

MOMALERT:
A study has found that a mother’s recorded voice will wake a child and get him or her out the room much faster than a standard smoke alarm in a case of fire.  Researchers recruited 176 5-to 12-year-olds for the alarm test.  Once the kids entered a deep stage of sleep, the researchers set off either a standard tone alarm or one of three versions of their mother’s recorded voice shouting instructions and the child’s name.  The study found that the tone alarm woke the children about 50 percent of the time, and it took them an average of nearly five minutes to get out of the room.  The sound of Mom’s voice shouting names, instructions or both — caused almost 90 percent of children to awaken and leave the room in an average of under 30 seconds.  The study, published in The Journal of Pediatrics, makes the case for smoke alarms featuring voice recordings rather than the use of tones in homes with children.
(I know when MY Mom hollers, I listen…and we don’t even live in the same city!)

THINGS YOU SHOULD NEVER DO ON HALLOWEEN:
✗ Wear an Offensive Costume: If you think your costume might hurt someone’s feelings or worse, don’t wear it. It’s that easy.
✗ Carry a Toy Gun: In the dark, a toy gun can look exactly like a real gun — even in the light, it can be mistaken for a weapon.  Just don’t.
✗ Scare Little Kids: Don’t jump out at them or yell or wear any sort of costume that will cause them fright!
✗ Trick-or-Treat Over the Age of 13: Once you’re in high school, you should probably stop trick-or-treating. (No one wants to give free candy to someone who can get a job!)
✗ Give Out Healthy Treats: Kids are looking for candy! No kid wants an apple.  Or rice cakes.  (And they might return the favor with some nice, healthy Grade A eggs!)
✗ Not Have Candy: It’s Halloween, so you have to be prepared for trick-or-treaters! (Somewhere it is spelled out in the rules of life that you get free candy for Halloween for your first 12 years, and buy it for neighborhood kids for the next 80!)

• “Devil’s Night” or “Mischief Night,” traditionally a night of pranks before Halloween.

• “Sugar Addiction Awareness Day”, something to keep in mind on what is also ‘Candy Corn’ and ‘Buy a Doughnut Day’!  And by Halloween night, ‘Sugar Addiction Awareness Day’ will be nothing but a faint, sugar crashed, foggy-brained memory…
