Tomorrow’s Show Prep Today!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Sacha Baron Cohen was delighted that U.S. President Donald Trump offered up some “free publicity for Borat” – despite labelling the actor a “creep” and saying he doesn’t find him funny. Trump’s presidency is one of the main topics in the new “Borat” film, but his comments didn’t appear to fazed Cohen, who took to Twitter to share an article about Trump’s comments and wrote: “Donald—I appreciate the free publicity for Borat! I admit, I don’t find you funny either. But yet the whole world laughs at you. I’m always looking for people to play racist buffoons, and you’ll need a job after Jan. 20. Let’s talk!”

★ Earlier this year, Variety reported that a sequel to the cult-classic Halloween comedy “Hocus Pocus” had been greenlit for Disney+. At the time, Disney’s preference was for a sequel featuring original stars Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy rather than reboot the film with a new cast. Now, it appears that will be happening, according to Midler. In an interview, she said: “They’ve asked us if we were interested and of course all of us said yes.” Midler and her co-stars have already reunited, in costume, as their “Hocus Pocus” characters, in advance of a special live, one-night-only virtual event, “In Search of The Sanderson Sisters”, set for this Friday.

★ Suzi Quatro wants Scarlett Johansson to play her in her upcoming biopic. She’s having her life made into a movie after 2019 documentary, ‘Suzi Q’, received rave reviews. And Quatro, who had hits including ‘Stumblin’ In’ as well as the tole of ‘Leather Tuscadero’ on “Happy Days”, says she would love to see Johansson take on the lead role, although Miley Cyrus and Billie Eilish are also in the running.

★ Felicity Huffman has finally put the college admissions scandal firmly in her rearview mirror … and she’s reached the finish line before Lori Loughlin even got started. Huffman is officially off supervised release, and her legal team says she’s completed all other aspects of her punishment — including her 2-week prison stint in the San Francisco Bay Area and 250 hours of community service.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Adele – told fans during her hosting gig on “SNL” that there was a good reason that she wasn’t there as musical guest. In her opening monologue, she said: “There’s a couple of reasons – my album’s not finished, and I’m also too scared to do both. I’d rather just put on some wigs…have a glass of wine, or six, and just see what happens.”
• Drake – His new “Certified Lover Boy” isn’t coming out until Jan., but he’s already teasing fans. He posted a one-minute video that starts with a young boy staring into the dark sky as leaves fall, set to instrumental music.
• Meghan Trainor – Her holiday album will be released on Friday. She has announced that it will include appearances by stars like Seth McFarlane and Earth Wind and Fire, and her father Gary is featured on ‘Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas’.
• Mike Tyson – has partnered with LA-based group Tiki Lau to drop a new EDM tune. The title? ‘Mike Tyson’. In the high-intensity song, he repeatedly says the words: “I’m Mike Tyson.” There are rumors he plans to use it as his walk-out song for his upcoming boxing match against Roy Jones Jr. LINK (brace yourself…):  https://tinyurl.com/y5yepobo
• Elton John – now has his own Barbie doll. He worked with Mattel on the project, which features a blonde Barbie clad in a purple bowler hat; pink sunglasses; a glittery top beneath a bomber jacket with sparkling “Elton” across the front with rainbow hem, flared pants, and rainbow platform boots, recognizing John’s activism on behalf of LGBTQ rights.
• Bruce Springsteen — recorded his new “Letter to You” album in just four days. The album, which was released on Friday, is his first studio album with the E Street Band in six years, and he said his “years of playing” with the band have created an “efficiency” in the studio, and all the vocals on the record are “first takes”.
• Chris Stapleton — released the new song ‘Arkansas’ on Friday. Written after a road trip through the state, he said: “We drove like a bat out of hell through the Ozark Mountains … and that’s what this song is all about.” It will appear on his fourth studio album “Starting Over,” out Nov. 13.
• Cam — will release her sophomore album “The Otherside” this Friday. The 11-song project, which features the single ‘Classic’, follows her 2015 major-label debut album, “Untamed”.
• Charley Pride – will be honored with the CMA 2020 Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award on Nov. 11. The award is to recognize an artist who has “achieved national and international prominence and stature through concert performances, humanitarian efforts, philanthropy, record sales, and public representation at the highest level.”

FANGS A LOT:
Some dentists have been compelled to warn people NOT to use nail products in their mouths. Yup. Why? It seems some TikTok users have been sharing some dangerous techniques for applying fake vampire fangs for Halloween. One user named “Kait” posted a video of her vampire look…quickly followed by videos of her frantically struggling to remove her fake fangs, with the caption “I used nail glue (yes I’m dumb) BUT HOW DO I GET THEM OFF!!!!” The video has more than 10 million views, and received attention from a few dentists, who pointed out that you should NOT use nail glue because it won’t come off – and it is poisonous. It seems a better option would be to use denture glue, which is safe and easy to take off. According to Kate’s videos, she was finally able to remove her fangs – after two hours of trying.
(Mom always said your teeth take a beating at Halloween!)
(It wasn’t long ago that some wackos were filing their teeth on TikTok – also a nail product!)
(I know I’m not the first to say it, but stop making stupid people famous!)

PUT THE GAME INN:
Atari is opening gaming-inspired hotels around the US. The company, forever linked with iconic games like Pong and Centipede, first announced the plan in January, and has now announced that the first hotels will be in Phoenix, Arizona and Las Vegas, Nevada, with plans for future Atari hotels in 6 other US cities. What could one expect to experience in a “gaming-inspired” hotel? According to Atari, they will be styled with ‘retro-futurism’, pop culture and nostalgia themes. They will feature themed restaurants and retro arcades with classic Atari games, plus more recent gaming innovations, such as Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality. Some locations will also have venues for esports tournaments and studios for influencers to produce content. Each hotel will also have a nightclub and speakeasy bar for adult guests.
(So, the kids will be playing video games all night while Dad is downstairs getting drunk. Just like at home!)
(Finally! A hotel with more game than its guests!)
(The only problem? Because it’s run by Atari, once your stay is over, you have no memory!)

GIMME A HYGGE:
Do you remember the trendy term “hygge”? Hygge, which refers to all things cozy and comforting, was a big deal last year. Well, what could be the word of the year for 2020, like hygge, also comes from Denmark. I give you “samfundssing”. The Danish Language Council defines samfundssing as “putting the concern of society higher than one’s own interests.” It could be more loosely translated as “community spirit” or “social mindedness”. After the term was used in March by Denmark Prime Minister Mette Frederikson, in a plea for cooperation and assistance in combating the COVID-19 pandemic, Danish people and companies responded immediately, by assisting to alleviate pressure on healthcare services, and manufacturing much-needed medical equipment. The word is now used on social media as a hashtag to highlight kind acts.
(Wow – And I thought I was having trouble spelling “quarantine”!)
(To make it easier, we’ll just call it hashtag: “keyboard faceplant”!)
(There is an awesome irony in a politician telling people to “put the concern of society higher than one’s own interests”.)

DID YOU KNOW?
Coca-Cola is finally getting rid of Tab, the pioneering diet soda that kept a small but diehard fanbase for almost 60 years. Coke rolled out Tab in 1963 as its first foray into the diet soda market. The saccharin-sweetened drink — which Coke promoted as the soda “for beautiful people” in a 1978 ad — went on to become a cultural phenomenon. It was the leading diet soda by 1980 but fell by the wayside after Diet Coke debuted in 1982, and last year Tab accounted for just 0.1 percent of the world’s $22 billion in diet cola sales. (This is the first non-surprising thing that has happened this year…)

• “Black Cat Day”, In spite of the fact that for many, black cats are associated with bad luck, in many historical settings and cultures, black cats were actually related to positive things. Today, we appreciate them (something that they will acknowledge by remaining completely aloof…)

• “Potato Day”, one of several ‘food holidays’ honoring the humble spud. This root vegetable became one of the New World’s most important discoveries. What’s the best way to cook ’em? Fries? Mashed? Baked? Au Gratin w/Gruyere & Creme Fraiche?

• “American Beer Day”, beer is the most popular alcoholic drink in the United States, where over 5,000 breweries produce more than 9 billion gallons annually.

• “Navy Day”, paying tribute to all US men and women who serve as sailors. TODAY’S SLICE OF BS:
➠ Canada’s Northwest Territories was rocked with an earthquake on Saturday. (And as a country known for Anne Murray and Celine Dion, getting rocked isn’t something they’re [we’re] used to!)
➠ Starbucks has released a ‘Frankenfrapp’ and ‘Wolfman Frappuccino’ for Halloween. (The only thing scarier is the price…)
➠ Using the airport as a shuttle service, Florida Man has been busted for running an international ‘Flying Squirrel trafficking ring’ with Asia.  (I’m really on the fence about this one.)
➠ Today is Black Cat Day. (I find it TOTALLY cool that there is a special day to honor Idris Elba!)
➠ The CDC says that “Flu Season” has begun, and now is the time to get vaccinated. (Another tip for avoiding the flu is to wash your hands after touching things where lots of hands have been — like doorknobs, grocery carts, and Miley Cyrus.)
