Sweet Sheet!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Starting tonight all eight “Harry Potter” films are being screened in IMAX (as well as 2D) for a week. It’s the first time either of the first 2 films, “Harry Potter & The Philosopher’s Stone” and 2002′s “Harry Potter & The Chamber of Secrets”, have appeared in the IMAX format. Also screening is a first look at never-before-seen footage from “Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them”, the latest flick to emerge from JK Rowling’s literary universe, opening November 18th.

★ If a woman can be president, who’s to say a man can’t be a CoverGirl? This week the makeup company’s current spokesperson, Katy Perry, has announced James Charles as the first ever ‘CoverBoy’. Charles, a 17-year-old aspiring makeup artist, started using makeup only a year ago but has already amassed more than 430,000 followers on Instagram. He’ll appear in TV, print, and digital ads for ‘So Lashy’ mascara later this month and work with CoverGirl through 2017. The company calls Charles “an inspiration”.

★ And Toronto Blue Jays broadcaster Jerry Howarth won’t be using the word ‘Indians’ when he calls the American League Championship Series between Toronto and Cleveland. Howarth tells SportsNet 590 The Fan [CJCL] that he stopped using team names like ‘Indians’ and ‘Braves’ and baseball terms such as ‘tomahawk chop’ and ‘powwow on the mound’ after receiving a letter from an aboriginal fan following the 1992 Toronto-Atlanta World Series. Howarth wrote back, promising to stop using offensive terms. The ALCS starts tomorrow night in Cleveland … home of the no-names.

COMING ATTRACTIONS:
A BS selection of movies in the making …
• “Disobedience” – Rachel Weisz has signed on to star in and produce this film based on Naomi Alderman’s 2006 novel about a woman who returns to her Orthodox Jewish home following her father’s death and reconnects with her old best friend. Rachel McAdams is in talks to play her gal pal-turned-lover. Production is scheduled to begin in early 2017.
• “Impossible Odds” – Clint Eastwood next directs this true-life story about kidnapped aid worker Jessica Buchanan. She was working in Somalia in 2011 when she and a colleague were taken captive by pirates and spent over 90 days secluded in the desert. US president Obama finally approved a SEAL team rescue, which resulted in the death of the abductors.
• “John Wick: Chapter 2″ – Crack shot Taran Butler is teaching Keanu Reeves and Common shooting skills for this sequel due in 2017. Director Chad Stahelski recruited the world champ to give his actors a new skill set, so both would look like sharpshooters in the movie. They’re now both expert in what’s being called ‘gunfu’, as well as judo, jiu-jitsu, and Filipino knife fighting.
• “Love” – Actress Michelle Williams is the latest name linked to director Sean Durkin’s bio-pic about blues-rocker Janis Joplin. The story is based on the book written by Joplin’s sister Laura, which chronicles the letters the late singer sent to family and friends throughout her career. Joplin died from a heroin overdose in 1970 at age 27.
• “Monster” – Music video director Anthony Mandler’s first feature film follows a Harlem NY high school student as he fights to clear his name in a murder case. The cast already includes A$AP Rocky, Jennifer Hudson, and Nas. The project is being executive produced by Nas and John Legend, the twosome who are also overseeing the soundtrack for the film.

DELICIOUS NEW COLOR TREND:
‘Chocolate Mauve’ is said to be the new hair color you should try this Fall. Colorist Hannah Edelman, who owns Brush In Hand studio in Brooklyn NY, says she’s created the new hue by custom-blending 5 different tints: dark brown, a warm medium brown, mauve, and two different pink tones. She takes irregular sections of hair, always on some kind of diagonal, and paints them with the concoction. By melting the different brown hues into mauve, or mauve into pink, she creates delicate variations of the original 5 shades. She offers a professional warning: you need some prior color experience to achieve this look. (Should a hair color sound edible?)

POTTED CAT:
As medical marijuana becomes more accepted, some people are starting to use the drug to medicate their sick pets … and they’re seeing surprising results. Some claim cannabis has helped chronically ill pets return to their normal, happy selves. But you can’t exactly roll ‘Fluffy’ a joint, because THC, the cannabinoid that makes you feel high, is toxic to animals. Cannabidiol, another cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant and known as CBD, apparently gives animals the benefits without the buzz. Veterinarians are prohibited from prescribing medical marijuana, so pet owners who live in places where it’s not yet legal must order non-psychoactive, CBD-based products online. THE LATEST (DUMB) THING:
Still taking ordinary selfies? Prepare to feel as old-fashioned as a flip-phone. The ‘High-Five Selfie’ is the newest trend, thanks to a North Carolina man’s recent Twitter post. The procedure is simple: you toss your phone in the air to take picture of you high-fiving yourself (clapping your hands together) in a mirror. The challenge then, of course, is to catch your phone before it crashes. The original tweet has inspired countless others to attempt the same feat. Many have succeeded, though often with damage to their cellphones. “I saw a challenge. And I accepted. Also cracked my phone a bit but worth it,” one user writes. (What next? Backing over your phone with your car?)

SEX BEFORE THE GAME, YES OR NO?
It’s an old rule of thumb: for peak performance in sports, you should abstain from sex before the big event. But Italian researchers have done some digging, and they report that the advice is not sufficiently supported by recent scientific literature. The researchers note in their meta-analysis of 9 separate studies that the scant scientific research doesn’t consider potential gender differences, type of sport, or masturbation. Based on the limited existing data, they say sexual activity could actually boost sports performance for marathon runners. And overall, unless it takes place less than 2 hours beforehand, the evidence suggests sexual activity may have a beneficial effect all athletes. (What about at halftime?)

WHERE TO BE FEMALE:
Save the Children’s new ‘Girls’ Opportunity Index’ ranks the countries where it’s best to be a girl, based on various issues including education, child marriage, teen pregnancy, maternal deaths, and the number of females in government. Denmark ranks #1 and Niger ranks rock bottom at #144 in the report. Norway, Slovenia, Israel, Algeria, and Kazakhstan are among 31 countries where it’s better to be a girl than the US. America ranks #32, thanks to relatively high rates of maternal death and teen pregnancy, as well as the makeup of the US Congress, where just under 20% of seats are held by women. Canada ranks #19. The report warns that around-the-world, a girl under 15 is married to an older man every 7 seconds. (The 5th annual “International Day of the Girl” was this Tuesday.)

YOU SHOULD NEVER WORKOUT MAD:
Do not exercise when angry! Researchers say it can triple your heart attack risk. Physical activity and emotional upset are both known to trigger heart attacks, and the combination of the two can be deadly. The researchers analyzed information on more than 12,000 patients in 52 countries and discovered that exercising to ‘blow off steam’ when furious is how a lot of people end up having their first heart attack. That’s because anger and exercise are a lot alike; both can raise blood pressure and heart rate, changing the flow of blood through blood vessels and reducing blood supply to the heart. The bottom line: people at risk of heart attacks should find another way to calm down when angry. (Suggested alternatives? Voodoo pins?)
