★ Victoria Beckham has been named Britain’s most successful entrepreneur for 2014. The 40-year-old pop singer-turned-fashion designer tops the new listing after growing her fashion empire’s sales from £1 million ($1.6 m) to £30 million ($48 m) and her staff from 3 employees to 100 in just 5 years. Beckham, who launched her label in 2008, opened her first stand-alone boutique in London last month. She now has a personal fortune of £210 million ($338 m).

★ And the beloved Labrador on “Downton Abbey” could be written out of the show simply because of her name … ‘Isis’. That’s right, Lord Grantham’s pet shares the same name as the world’s most infamous terrorist organization. The pooch is involved in a storyline about her health in the show’s 5th season, which would provide an opening for her to be killed off. A rep says it’s an ‘unfortunate coincidence’ that she was named after the Egyptian goddess ‘Isis’ years before the terrorist organization ever came to light. She made her debut in Season 2.

‘HOT’ DOG COSTUMES:
And you thought sexy human costumes were strange. Welcome to an age in which people are now dressing up their pets in sexy Halloween costumes. One observer suggests it’s due to a person-to-pet consumer trickle-down effect. There are actual sexy shark, crustacean, and even whale costumes for humans, so maybe it was only a matter of time until dogs got their own sexy costumes too. Such as? California Costume is offering: ‘Lady Is a Tramp’, complete with fake human cleavage (think Snooki); ‘Pop Queen’, featuring a gold-cone bra (Madonna); and ‘Silver Screen Siren’ (Marilyn Monroe). Even Walmart is stocking ‘French Maid’ costumes for dogs. According to National Retail Federation, we’ll spend $350 million on pet costumes this year, up from $220 million in 2010. NO MORE COLD FEET!
Do you struggle to keep your toes cosy in wintery weather? New ‘smart’ insoles heat shoes at the press of a button. The ‘Digitsole’ devices slip inside different types of shoes, are rechargeable, and connect via Bluetooth to a smartphone app so users can change their temperature, setting the level for each insole separately by sliding a bar on the screen up and down. The insoles also have sensors to track footsteps and calories burned so you can track both your activity level and posture. The French company behind the design claims a secret heating element allows warmth to spread from the front of the insoles throughout. They can be recharged via a built-in USB port. The hot foot gizmos can be pre-ordered on Kickstarter for $99. (Or you can just get some really thick socks for about 99¢.)

BS AMAZING HALLOWEEN FACTS:
• The Jack-o-Lantern tradition comes from olden times, though the true origin is uncertain. Some believe it derives from a Celtic tale about a man named ‘Jack’, who tricked the Devil into agreeing to never take his soul.
• In Britain, Jack-o-Lanterns are traditionally made from turnips. The Halloween custom came to North America through Irish immigrants. Since turnips weren’t cheap, the locals used pumpkins.
• The Guinness World Record for fastest face carved into a pumpkin is 20.1 seconds, achieved by the UK’s David Finkle in 2010. The record for collective Jack-o-Lantern lighting was set in Highwood IL in 2011 when 30,919 enthusiasts simultaneously lit one up.
