The BS Press!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Simon Cowell is reported to be still ”very shaken” and in pain after being rushed to hospital on Friday.  Cowell was stretchered out of his London home in a neck brace after fainting and falling down stairs.  He has since been discharged and was expected to defy doctors’ advice to rest by returning to work on ‘The X Factor’ on Sunday.  Cowell has reportedly been warned by medics that the lights and heat in the studio could trigger more fainting spells.

★ ‘Stranger Things’ star Charlie Heaton was denied entry into the U.S. on Thursday when he was allegedly found in possession of cocaine at LAX.  Heaton, an English citizen, was detained, and wound up missing the Westwood premiere of his Netflix show’s second season.  23 year-old Heaton stars on ‘Stranger Things’ as Jonathan Byers, the older brother of Will Byers (Noah Schnapp), whose disappearance is at the center of the show’s first season.

★ Mel Gibson, Danny Glover, and director Richard Donner are all apparently considering the possibility of doing another ‘Lethal Weapon’ movie.  If it happens, it looks like Donner would direct and Channing Gibson, who wrote ‘Lethal Weapon 4′, would handle the script. The buddy action comedy franchise has been a major hit, and together the four movies so far have pulled in $955 million worldwide. The last one was released in 1998. The film also spawned a TV series.
(Wasn’t it in the first ‘Lethal Weapon’ way back in 1987 that Danny Glover said, “I’m too old for this ____”)

★ Jeff Goldblum will be returning to Jurassic World.  Speaking in a podcast, Goldblum teased his upcoming role in ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’: “It’s small… Who knows, they may cut me out entirely!  But if I stay in I’ll be a sprig of parsley or a little garnish, hopefully with some impact!” The sequel to the hugely successful ‘Jurassic World’, which was released in 2015, will see Goldblum revive his role as Dr. Ian Malcolm alongside new series regulars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard.

★ Jesse James is accused of cheating a former New York Giant out of $127,000 for a custom-built motorcycle which he claims he paid for six years ago and still hasn’t been received. David Diehl — who won two Super Bowls with the Giants — says he made a $45,000 down payment to James in 2011 for a motorcycle that was supposed to be finished the following year. He says James claims the bike had to be rebuilt because it “didn’t look right,” but has refused to provide any pictures detailing the vehicle progress.
(Wouldn’t be the first time he ‘screwed’ someone he shouldn’t have!)

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Pink – gave Adele advice on touring as a parent. She apparently warned Adele that it wouldn’t be easy to take her now five-year-old son Angelo on the road.  According to her, “My top tip is don’t try to do it all.”
• Cardi B – has become engaged to rapper Offset. The rapper – whose real name is Kiari Kendrell Cephus – got down on one knee to pop the question to Cardi on stage in Philadelphia on Friday.
• Kelly Clarkson – says motherhood makes her feel even more ”sexy and intelligent”.  She says she feels more empowered now that she is a mother to 3 year-old River Rose and 18-month-old Remington Alexander.
• Taylor Swift – dropped her ‘Ready for It’ video on Friday at midnight, and the entire internet exploded with opinions. One of the recurring ones? That Taylor appears to be naked in the video. Swift wears a bodysuit, as she was quick to point out.
• Morrissey –  has announced a 2018 tour of the United Kingdom and Ireland. The tour will begin on February 16 Aberdeen, Scotland and conclude in London on March 9.  His North American tour begins this week.
• Jon Bon Jovi – GQ is reporting that his 2014 efforts to join a group of investors and purchase the NFL’s Buffalo Bills unraveled as a result of a negative publicity campaign started by political strategist and media consultant Michael Caputo, who was hired to collapse the Bon Jovi bid by Donald Trump.
• Keith Richards – says the intense lyrics of the Rolling Stones’ ‘Gimme Shelter’, which seem to sum up a period of armed conflict and overall social turmoil, were initially inspired when he grabbed a guitar after literally watching people trying to get out of the rain.
• Shania Twain – went on the show ‘The Talk’ to explain the meaning behind the title of her  new album ‘Now’.  Quote: “It’s all about being in the now and celebrating the now.  The album is really celebrating about going from the dark to the light and sad to happy.  I think we need to have those lows to recognize when we’re in a good moment”.
• Tim McGraw – is among the newly announced performers for this year’s CMA Awards.  Faith Hill and Pink are also expected to sing, and the show will open with a musical collaboration from Eric Church, Lady Antebellum, Darius Rucker, Keith Urban and more.  The 51st Annual CMA Awards will be held Wednesday, Nov. 8th.

CHEAP DATE:
Would you select what movie you are going to see based on the admission price?  Soon, you just might be able to do just that.  The Regal chain of movie theaters in the U.S. has announced that they will be testing ‘demand-based’ pricing for films, which could mean that in the future you will pay higher prices for top hits and lower prices to see flops.  Regal plans to test the concept in early 2018 and see if it boosts revenue and fills more seats at non-peak times.  Theater chains have been suffering due to falling attendance as many people choose to get their movie fix through streaming services like Netflix.
(The price of snacks, however, will remain the same…)
(I’ve sometimes said that “You couldn’t pay me to see that movie”.  Now, if it is a big enough bomb, they just MIGHT!)
(“Here are your tickets, just head down the hall past the broom closet and enter where it says ‘Loser’.  I’m sure you’ll have no trouble finding a seat.”

THE POLISH OLYMPICS?
Great news, guys! The Global Association of International Sports Federation has granted pole- dancing “observer status,” meaning it’s officially recognized as a sport.  And why not?  There is no doubt that it takes a lot of coordination, strength, and skill to spin around a pole with a single arm, hang upside down and do all those other complicated maneuvers, much less put them all together to look like some kind of planned routine.  And of course, for those who are really optimistic, with pole-dancing now recognized as a sport, the next logical step will be to make it an Olympic Sport, right?  According to the Washington Post,   “Observer status is the first step international federations must achieve before becoming full GAISF members, which serves as a great boost for any sport hoping to one day land in the Olympics.”
(So there you have it.  But I’m not sure ‘6-inch stilettos’ will be part of the official Olympic uniform…)
(I know this: A lot more people will watch this than curling!)

HALLOWEEN MYTHS, BUSTED:
✖ People are poisoning the candy:   A study going back to 1958 was unable to find a substantiated report of a child being killed or seriously injured by a contaminated treat in the course of trick-or-treating.  Reported incidents are normally hoaxes.  Of course, you should keep an eye on your children’s candy.  (At the very least, it’s a great excuse to sample the goods.)
✖  It’s open season on black cats: The fear that people are adopting black cats to torture or sacrifice around the holiday is so great that some animal shelters don’t allow the animals to be adopted close to Halloween. While it is true that animals too often become the victims of holiday pranks and cruelty, there is no reason to believe that witches are involved, or that shelters are a source, according to the ASPCA.  They say that shelters should follow normal adoption procedures at Halloween.
✖ Satan is the reason for the season:  Henry Kelly, a professor of English at UCLA and author of ‘Satan: A Biography’, says Halloween is best understood as a product of 18th-century folklore traditions of Scotland and Ireland:  “Efforts to connect it with anything earlier are bogus.”
The holiday’s strongest roots sprout from Catholic traditions. The name is derived from All Hallow’s Eve, the evening before All Saints’ Day two nights before All Souls Day.
✖ It’s all about the pumpkins: Originally,  jack-o’-lanterns were carved from turnips and carried a candle to represent a soul trapped in purgatory.  People in England would sometimes carry the turnips while “souling,” a ritual that included people going door-to-door to ask for food in exchange for prayers for the dead. (Tell that to Linus!)
✖  The Legend of Sleepy Hollow’ is a Halloween story:  Washington Irving’s story, ‘The Legend of Sleepy Hollow’, has been called “America’s Halloween Carol”.  Sleepy Hollow, N.Y., changed its name from North Tarrytown in 1996 to rebrand itself as a spooky tourist destination.
Halloween is the town’s peak season. The travel guide ‘Fodor’ says, “there’s no better place to celebrate the holiday than Sleepy Hollow.” The only problem: The Legend of Sleepy Hollow had nothing to do with Halloween. The story never mentions Halloween, which was not widely known or celebrated in America when Irving wrote his tale.

• “Sugar Addiction Awareness Day”, something to keep in mind on what is also ‘Candy Corn’ and ‘Buy a Doughnut Day’!  And by Halloween night, ‘Sugar Addiction Awareness Day’ will be nothing but a faint, sugar crashed, foggy-brained memory…
