BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ The “Dune” story will continue. Warner Bros. has announced that “Dune: Part Two,” the sequel to last weekend’s #1 film, will hit theaters on October 20, 2023. The first installment, a science-fiction epic starring Timothée Chalamet, notched an estimated $40.1 million at the North American box office on the weekend — exceeding expectations of $30 million. The strong opening for “Dune” is even more impressive considering the film is also streaming on HBO Max — meaning audiences could have avoided theaters altogether, and watched at home. It is the biggest movie opening for Warner Bros. so far this year.

★ The release of the Alec Baldwin-narrated documentary “Flint: Who Can You Trust?” has been indefinitely postponed after the shooting death of Halyna Hutchins on the set of “Rust.” The film was set for a limited release this Friday with a rollout to more theaters in the following weeks, and digital release in mid-November. But those plans have been shelved for now. The film interviews residents in Flint, Michigan about the 2014 scandal that saw the poisoning of the town’s water supply after utility officials switched the water source from the Great Lakes to the nearby, polluted Flint River.

★ Anderson Cooper shared a heartwarming story on “Late Night With Seth Meyers” about his late mother, Gloria Vanderbilt. In the final years of her life, Cooper set up an Instagram profile for her to display her artwork and share stories. Not only did she garner more than 200,000 followers, she also created a demand for her art and the need for an assistant to manage sales. Cooper agreed to handle her messages, but they both realized he would need an alternate persona because he is a famous news anchor. Cooper said: “She was like, ‘OK, why don’t we invent a lady of a certain age named Monica who’s a long-time trusted assistant and you be Monica? And that’s what I did for 3 years.”

★ Will Cardi B meet Joe Goldberg in Season 4 of Netflix’s “You”? Star Penn Badgley can’t say — but not because it’s not happening, just because he genuinely isn’t sure what showrunner Sera Gamble has planned for the 4th season of the hit stalker thriller. Cardi, a superfan of the show, had pitched her own idea for the guest-star spot. When asked about it on “Jimmy Kimmel” Monday, Badgley said: “I don’t know. I mean, I definitely can’t say.” Badgley went on to point out that “There is an actual Change.org petition” to have Cardi on the show.

• Garth Brooks – his Nashville residency has a new opening night – in a different venue. After more than 22,000 fans couldn’t get tickets for his intimate 2-night stand at Ryman Auditorium last week, he added a Nov. 18 show at the Grand Ole Opry House. His sold-out Ryman shows are Nov. 19 – 20.

SHOOTING THE BULL

OUT OF OFFICE EMAIL:
In Ontario, it could soon be illegal for bosses to bug their employees after working hours. Many workers could get the “right to disconnect” outside of work hours under legislation introduced Monday by the provincial government. The government says the issue of work stress and burnout among workers is one that’s been highlighted by the pandemic, with the lines between family time and work time becoming blurred like never before. The legislation would require employers with 25 or more employees to develop disconnecting-from-work policies, which could include expectations about response time for emails, and encouraging employees to turn on out-of-office notifications when they are not working. The “right to disconnect” concept has been attracting more interest in North America since remote work exploded last year, and had already inspired legislation in France, Italy and Spain well before the pandemic.
(Perfect. Now what can we do about the boss bugging me DURING work hours?)
(They shouldn’t worry. Most of us around here have been “disconnected” from work ever since raises were cancelled last year!)
(I was trying to think of a reason that you actually WANT to be contacted by the boss after work – and I couldn’t come up with ANYTHING!)

WARHOL HAUL:
How would you like to be the proud owner of an original Andy Warhol drawing – for just $250? You could – but you’d never know for sure. An art collective has purchased the pop-artist’s 1954 drawing “Fairies” for $20,000 and is selling it to one lucky buyer — but there’s a catch: It is also selling 999 high-quality forgeries — and even their creators can’t tell them apart. It’s the latest stunt by New York’s MSCHF, the group of artists who were infamously sued by Nike for creating modified “Satan” sneakers containing real human blood. Calling their project “Museum of Forgeries,” the group used digital technology and a robotic arm to recreate the artist’s exact strokes, before using heat, light and humidity to artificially age the paper. Having mixed the 999 fakes with the original, MSCHF now claims not to know which is the real Warhol. Collectors can buy one of the 1,000 works, each titled “Possibly Real Copy Of ‘Fairies’ by Andy Warhol,” for $250. And while the group stands to make substantial profit if all the pieces sell, chief creative officer Lukas Bentel says it is also poking fun at an industry more interested in the authenticity of an artwork — or who created it — than the art itself.
(I’ve already got 1,000 Warhol forgeries…soup was on sale last week!)
(Isn’t Warhol also the guy who said, in the future, everyone would save 15% on car insurance?)

SNOOZE NEWS:
For any of us who are up long before the sun rises, an afternoon nap isn’t just pleasant…it’s mandatory. And now, a new study has proven that a quick “power nap” really does help the body and mind. Researchers at Northwestern University found that napping for just 90 minutes can boost both motor skills and memory. In tests, they found that sleeping during the day can enhance a person’s ability to learn challenging motor tasks, because it helps the brain to process and focus on the new skill. After a short sleep, study participants were able to perform more quickly and more efficiently than if they did not have the extra rest.
(The only thing I’d quibble with is that, to me, a 90-minute nap is NOT a “short sleep” at all. Do these people not have kids?)
(Fine. Except the only “skills” I concentrate on after my nap are eating and watching Jimmy Kimmel!)
(I have a 90-minute nap every night. Then my wife wakes me up and tells me to go to bed…)

• “International Animation Day”, first proclaimed in 2002 to celebrate the art of animation. (So, if you know an animator, send a .gif!)
• “Plush Animal Lover’s Day”, a day to celebrate your stuffed animal collection. ‘Plush’ sounds so much more humane, no?
• “Wild Foods Day”, a celebration of wild plants, fruits, and vegetables. Wild foods are free of preservatives and pesticides, and eating them is part of an eco-friendly lifestyle. Wild plants now often appear on menus in gourmet and raw food restaurants. (I wonder if tomorrow is “Roughage Day…”)
• “National Chocolate Day”, yes, there was also a “Chocolate Day” in July and an “International Chocolate Day in September…don’t fight it. Here are 5 things to know about chocolate:
➢ Switzerland is one of the top countries for chocolate consumption. The Swiss consume about 10 kg (22 lbs.) of chocolate, per person, per year.
➢ Most cocoa comes from West Africa.
➢ Cocoa beans were used as currency by the Mayan and Aztec cultures. Perhaps this is where they saying “Money grows on trees” came from.
➢ White chocolate originates from the cocoa (cacao) plant, but it is not ‘chocolate.’
➢ Allowing chocolate to melt in your mouth produces a similar reaction to that of a passionate kiss.
• “Statue of Liberty Dedication Day”, President Grover Cleveland dedicated it on this date in 1886. The 151-Ft. statue serves as a universal symbol of freedom and democracy. A gift from the people of France, it sits on what is now known as Liberty Island in New York Harbor.
