★ Amanda Bynes made her triumphant return to social media on Saturday, tweeting for the first time in nearly a year. Bynes looked happy and healthy in the picture she tweeted, captioning it, “Dinner with friends at Girasol”. After several run-ins with the law and other personal issues, Bynes has spent the last few years away from the public eye.

★ After her former Sex and the City co-star sent her condolences following the passing of her brother, Kim Cattrall slammed Sarah Jessica Parker, making it very clear that she wants nothing from her. Cattrall took to social media to share a note directed at Parker, saying, “I don’t need your love or support at this tragic time @sarahjessicaparker.” That’s a change in attitude from a few days earlier when Cattrall wrote on Instagram: “I’d like to thank my fans, friends, and my #SexandtheCity colleagues for the outpouring of support.”

★ Guess fashion brand co-founder Paul Marciano prominently displayed a photo of Anna Nicole Smith in his office and multiple alleged victims believe he used it to lure models into lowering their defenses with dreams of stardom before many of his alleged assaults occurred. Now, Guess has hired a law firm to oversee an internal investigation into the accusations made against Marciano. He remains on the board and as the creative director of the company, and by all indications, he maintains he did nothing wrong and is refusing to step down.

★ Omarosa apparently had a rough time during a Head of Household competition on “Celebrity Big Brother” … and was sent to the hospital for treatment as a result. The ‘CBB’ live feeds went down Friday night during the competition — where the houseguests reportedly had to get dizzy and bowl — but when they came back … fans found out Omarosa had been taken to the hospital.  CBS has confirmed that Omarosa received medical attention for an asthma attack.
-TMZ
★ Former Miss Vancouver Sabrina Dhowre has become the envy of pretty much everyone in the world after getting engaged to Idris Elba, the unofficial sexiest man alive. Elba popped the question on Saturday morning on stage at a screening of his latest film ‘Yardie’ at East London’s Rio cinema.  The pair, who have been dating for less than a year, met in Vancouver while Elba was there filming ‘The Mountain Between Us’ with Kate Winslet.

• Ed Sheeran – credits Taylor Swift for his engagement to Cherry Seaborn. According to him, “My relationship started on the fourth of July at Taylor’s house. So the story was, I was at Taylor’s party, and then a girl I went to school with who’s pretty cool ended up being in Rhode Island.” The ‘fourth of July’ line made it into Sheeran’s collaboration with Swift, ‘End Game’.
• Chris Brown – has raised some eyebrows by taking to Twitter to share his idea for a collaborative world tour. “A CRAZY WORLD TOUR,” as he called it, would also feature Beyoncé, Bruno Mars and Rihanna. In 2009, Brown pleaded guilty to assaulting then-girlfriend Rihanna the night before that year’s Grammys.
• Huey Lewis – has announced a musical based on his hits. Lewis made the announcement in a video featuring an appearance by Jimmy Kimmel. The production will be directed by Gordon Greenberg. A book will also be released.
• Bon Jovi – former guitarist Richie Sambora and his girlfriend Orianthi have released two romantic songs just in time for Valentine’s Day: The original ‘Forever All the Way’, and their take on the Sonny & Cher hit ‘I Got You Babe’. Both songs will appear on their debut album in April.
• Mott the Hoople – Ian Hunter is getting the band back together. They’ll headline the U.K. festival, ‘The Ramblin’ Man Fair’, June 30-July 1 in Kent. The Cult will co-headline. There’s no word on the possibility of further Mott the Hoople shows.
• Dierks Bentley – is introducing a clothing line called ‘Desert Son’. Initially, it will feature t-shirts for men and women, plus hoodies and hats for men. More items will appear in the summer.
• Cam – plays the role of the mistress in the video to her new single ‘Diane’. She wrote the song as a response to Dolly Parton’s classic ‘Jolene’, from the perspective of the other woman. In the video, Cam plays a nightclub singer who issues an apology to her wandering beau’s betrayed wife.
• Jessica Andrews – the former teen country star (now 34) and her husband have welcomed their first child, a baby boy named Rockwell.

A NICE, WHITE SNACK:
It’s light and fluffy and beautiful, but is snow safe to eat? A Romanian university says yes…if it’s fresh. But if it has been on the ground for a few days, or if it falls during months when it isn’t very cold, don’t go there. Scientists collected snow in January and February and tried to grow bacteria mold in them. After one day, there were five bacteria per millimeter in the January snow, but 4 times that much in the February snow. They also observed that fresh snow has very little bacteria, but after 48 hours, there are dozens of bacteria. They have determined that microorganisms increase due to impurities in the air.
(And always stick to the white stuff!)
(By February I’m sick of it anyway…literally!)
(And never eat it within 100 miles of (***local industrial city***)

UNEQUAL PRICE:
The March issue of the Canadian news magazine ‘MacLean’s’ will come out with two covers. One for women, and another for men. In bold face on one cover: “Women pay $6.99 for this magazine”. On the other? “Men pay $8.81 for this magazine”. They are asking men to pay 26% more than women for the latest issue in order to bring attention to the pay gap. The magazine says it wants to contribute to the ongoing conversation about sexism and workplace discrimination by focusing on pay equity. The issue has also contains a number of stories on the topic. Statistics Canada reports that the annual salaries of full-time working women in Canada are an average of 26% less than that of men. Maclean’s says it will donate proceeds from the higher-priced issue to a charity that invests in Indigenous education. Oh, and just so you know, people can buy whichever version they want.
(It’s for my wife…honest!)
(I suppose I lucked out if I paid for mysubscription before this!)

FLU LIGHT:
Researchers at Columbia University Medical Center are working on a way to prevent the spread of the flu virus in public places…with lighting. They are developing something called ‘far-UVC’ — a special type of ultraviolet light — that could be used in places such as offices and shopping centers to kill the airborne influenza virus and stop its spread. Broad-spectrum UVC kills bacteria and viruses, and is also used to decontaminate surgical equipment. But it is also a human health hazard and can lead to skin cancer and cataracts. Lead author David J. Brenner says that the new ‘far-UVC’ light cannot penetrate the outer layer of human skin or the tear layer in the eye, so it’s not a human health hazard. But because viruses and bacteria are much smaller than human cells, far-UVC light can kill them in the air.
(You think too many people come to work sick NOW…)
(Yeah, I’ll wait this one out for a few years and see what happens…)
(So I’m OK to sneeze into my hand again?)

ON BUYING GIFTS FOR MEN:
You usually can’t miss by buying a card, flowers, and chocolate for a woman. But what can you get a guy for Valentines Day? A few ideas …
✓ When in doubt … buy him a cordless drill.
✓ If you cannot afford a cordless drill, buy him anything with the word ‘ratchet’ or ‘socket’ in it.
✓ Do not buy men socks. Do not buy men ties. And never buy men bathrobes.
✓ You can buy men new remote controls to replace the ones they have worn out.
✓ Buy men label-makers. Almost as good as cordless drills. Within a couple of weeks there will be labels absolutely everywhere.
✓ Never buy a man anything that says ‘Some Assembly Required’ on the box.
✓ Rope. Men love rope. It takes them back to their cowboy origins, or at least the Boy Scouts.
✓ It’s hard to beat a really good wheelbarrow or an aluminum extension ladder. Never buy a man a stepladder. It must be an extension ladder. No one knows why.
