BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Mark Hamill reassured fans on the weekend that social media reports of his death were greatly exaggerated – but he managed to jump-start some hearts in the process. The Star Wars icon wrote that he was alive and well…with a little joke, posting: “HAMILL DIES: Much of Nation Mourns…GOP(says): Meh. #DontRushMe.” Hamill has been an outspoken critic of Donald Trump and the GOP.

★ Fergie sang the “Star-Spangled Banner” at the NBA All-Star game, but not everyone was impressed.  In fact, a lot of people hated it.  The Black Eyed Peas alum took to a microphone to sing a bluesy rendition of the national anthem, and the A-listers in attendance appeared to be unimpressed. Other people took to Twitter to compare it to Roseanne Barr’s performance of the national anthem in 1990…or to Marilyn Monroe’s sexy version of “Happy Birthday, Mr. President”.

★ Harry Connick Jr.’s daytime show is coming to an end later this year. NBC Universal Domestic Television has announced that “Harry,” will wrap after two seasons. The show, which lagged in viewership behind daytime programs like “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” will tape through September.

★ Lifetime is pulling out all the stops to document Meghan Markle’s epic romance with Prince Harry. The network has officially cast two more major characters: Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Diana. New Zealand actress Bonnie Soper will play Diana while British star Maggie Sullivun will portray Her Majesty. They join Murray Fraser, who is playing Prince Harry, and Parisa Fitz-Henley, who will star as Markle. Fitz-Henley is best known for her role in Marvel’s ‘Jessica Jones’. Filming is already underway in Vancouver and the movie, called ‘Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance’ is expected to premiere sometime this spring.

★ When it was announced that Jamie Lee Curtis would be returning to her iconic role as Laurie Strode in the ‘Halloween’ franchise, fans’ interest immediately peaked. Now that filming has been completed, Curtis took to her social media accounts to mark the occasion with a black and white behind-the-scenes picture. Showing “three generations” of Strode family members, Curtis promises that the horror will be an “astonishingly scary revisit to Haddonfield.”

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Kanye West – has once again deleted his Instagram account. He took a hiatus from Instagram almost a year ago, but returned on Wednesday to share a Valentine’s Day message to his wife Kim Kardashian. But just 24 hours later, he once again pulled the plug on his account – with no explanation. (At least we know he didn’t forget his password!)
• Katy Perry – caught the bouquet, at what was reported to be her brother David’s wedding, and got pretty excited about it. She posted video of herself catching the bouquet and then promptly running off with it, much to the amusement of her fellow wedding guests.
• Janelle Monae – the actress and sometime singer is returning to music with her first album in five years. No release date yet, but it will be accompanied by a narrative film, which is being screened in select U.S. theaters before the movie ‘Black Panther’.
• The Who – A much bootlegged Who concert will soon gets its first official release. ‘Live at the Fillmore East 1968′, which documents the last show of a two-night stand at the New York venue, arrives on April 20.
• Gene Simmons – has a theory and he’s going to share it in a new book. ‘27: The Legend And Mythology Of The 27 Club’, has Simmons exploring the phenomenon of rock stars who died at 27, including Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain and Amy Winehouse. The book comes out August 14.
• Pearl Jam – are lending their support to calls for gun control legislation after last week’s killing of 17 people at a Florida school. Their hit ‘Jeremy’ was about a school shooting. The band has tweeted: “We’re done with ‘leaders’ who refuse to lead on commonsense gun safety laws”, and “It’s time to #ThrowThemOut. We deserve to live in a country where children live free from gun violence in their schools, in their homes, and in their communities. #EndGunViolence”.
• Smashing Pumpkins – The worst kept secret in music was confirmed with their announcement of a North American reunion tour that will be called the ‘Shiny And Oh So Bright Tour’. It starts July 12th in Glendale, AZ, and runs through September 7 in Boise, ID.
• Montgomery Gentry – Troy Gentry’s wife Angie has filed a lawsuit over his death in a helicopter crash in September. Angie Gentry is suing the manufacturers of the aircraft, claiming they failed to make the Sikorsky Model 269 helicopter crashworthy, leaving its occupants no chance of survival.
• Kacey Musgraves – posted a video Sunday complaining about a fan who crossed the line while she walked through the audience after a show. A man can clearly be seen clutching her arm. Musgraves reacted by crying out, “Ow! Stop that,” and wrestling him off. Her caption: “ASSHAT ALERT:…Guess I’m gonna have to start carrying a rolled up newspaper out there with me.”

WASH, DON’T DRY ROOM:
You probably don’t think of a public washroom as the cleanest place in the world, but you also probably thought that once you are through with washing your hands, you are in the clear. Not so fast. Nichole Ward from Carlsbad, Calif., did her own experiment on hand dryers and was amazed at what she found after just three days. According to her, she placed a petri dish inside an enclosed hand dryer for just three minutes. The video shows what she identifies as “several strains of possible pathogenic fungi and bacteria that you’re swirling around your hands, and you think you’re walking out with clean hands. You’re welcome.” Experts believe the featured bacteria in Ward’s image is most likely E.coli, which comes from fecal matter and fungus. Her Facebook post, which started as a warning to family and friends has now been shared more than 575,000 times.

WATCH YOUR STEP:
A new study finds that climbing stairs can alleviate some of the effects of menopause, especially in women with high blood pressure. The report, published in the Journal of the North American Menopause Society, shows that stair climbing led to a reduction in blood pressure and an increase in leg strength. The study assigned women to climb 192 steps…or about 12 flights, every day for 12 weeks.
(Not surprisingly, climbing all those stairs did not, however, help with the hot flashes!)
(Would that qualify as a newsflash…or a hot flash?)
(Those scientists have more nerve than I do…asking women who are going through menopause to go up and down 12 flights of stairs!)
