BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Kevin O’Leary’s wife has been charged over the fatal boating accident the couple was involved in on Aug. 24, but officials also validated the “Shark Tank” star’s story about the deadly crash. The Ontario Provincial Police charged Linda O’Leary with “careless operation of a vessel.” It was determined that Linda was driving the boat at an unsafe speed when she slammed into the other boat, killing two passengers onboard. The driver of the other vessel, Richard Ruh, was charged with “failing to exhibit navigation lights while underway,” after evidence pointed that the boat was dark at the time of the accident, which is what Kevin O’Leary’s team maintained all along.

★ Will Smith is trading in his family-friendly aura and big blockbuster stardom to portray American crime boss Nicky Barnes in a biopic for Netflix called “The Council.” The film tells the untold story of a crime syndicate consisting of the seven black men who ruled Harlem in the 1970s and early ’80s. It was made up of men who dreamed of a self-sufficient and self-policing African American city-state, funded by revolutionizing the drug game.

★ Joaquin Phoenix recently walked out of an interview promoting his new movie “Joker”. A journalist asked him: “Aren’t you worried that this film might perversely end up inspiring exactly the kind of people it’s about, with potentially tragic results?” Phoenix spent the next hour talking to a publicist from Warner Bros. to “get things back on track.” He eventually returned to the chat, explaining that he panicked because he hadn’t thought about that possibility before.

★ Nick Cannon has been tapped to host a nationally syndicated daytime talk show next year. Cannon says that once he left “America’s Got Talent”, he focused on developing his own talk show. Quote: “I’ve always dreamed of a platform where I can speak to America and discuss pop culture, as well as the topics on everyone’s minds.” Cannon served as guest host in place of Wendy Williams on her show earlier this year. He says at that point, he “experienced the energy and excitement of a daytime talk show and instantly knew I found my audience.”

★ (***CAUTION: language***) Robert Englund uses his Freddy Kruger voice to frighten drivers when he gets road rage. The star of “A Nightmare On Elm Street” has played the iconic horror movie killer eight times on the big screen and he says sometimes he can’t help but get angry behind the wheel, and channel his terrifying alter ego. Englund says: “He’s never really left me. Sometimes, I’ll be stuck in traffic in LA and he just comes out. I’ll do the Freddy voice and shout, ‘Get out my way, mother [EXPLETIVE]!”

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• The JUNO Awards – The Canadian music award ceremony is heading back to Toronto for its 50th anniversary in 2021. The biggest event in Canadian music will be held in the city of its birth on March 28, 2021 at the Scotiabank Arena. It will be aired live on CBC.
• Ariana Grande — is pressing pause on her lawsuit against Forever 21, in hopes of reaching a settlement. Earlier this month, she filed a $10 million-dollar lawsuit, claiming Forever 21 launched a “misleading campaign” that misappropriated her name and likeness.
• Drake — has been named one of the richest rappers in the world with a $150 million net worth. He is ranked No. 5 on Forbes list of richest rappers in 2019 – he’s also the youngest on the list by 10 years.
• The Who — guitarist Pete Townshend said the only thing he doesn’t argue with singer Roger Daltrey about is the fact that they “are both old.” He says that several songs on their upcoming new album “Who” explore how advancing years changed him, and how his approach to writing for Daltrey has changed too.
• Paul McCartney – says he doesn’t own a single Beatles record. He says that he never thought about collecting his band’s back catalogue because he was ”too busy living it”. The 77-year-old also said that he didn’t expect to still be alive, let alone still touring and making music at his age. The “super deluxe” 50th anniversary edition of The Beatles’ “Abbey Road” comes out tomorrow.
• The Grateful Dead — Robert Hunter, the poet and writer who provided them with many of their vivid and enduring lyrics, died Monday night at 78. No cause of death was provided. His lyrics — heard in everything from early Dead classics like ‘Dark Star’ and proceeding through ‘Uncle John’s Band’ and ‘Touch of Gray’ — were as much a part of the band as Jerry Garcia’s singing and guitar.
• Maren Morris – says this about her recently unveiled second album, ‘Girl’: ”I’m a little bit older; I’m married. I’m approaching my 30s, so it’s more worldly views than a selfish view. A lot more love in the second album.” She says she decided to call it “Girl” because she wanted to reference the gender imbalance in the country music industry.
• Chris Stapleton — has been announced as the Academy of Country Music’s inaugural “Artist-Songwriter of the Decade”. He was honored with the new award at Berry Hill Studios in Nashville in a surprise presentation. Radio success, sales and streaming numbers, commercial media, artistic merit and previous ACM Awards recognition were all considered in determining the winner.
• Lauren Alaina  — is enjoying her role as a competitor on “Dancing With the Stars”, but still feels bad about her breakup with her “best friend,” comedian John Crist. She told Jana Kramer on her podcast, “I mean, it sucks…It’s sad.” But, she says her “heart is good,” regardless.

OVERHEAD CAMERAS DOWN UNDER:
A state in Australia is trying a new way to keep people from using their phones while driving. In New South Wales, they are rolling out a network of 45 “Mobile Detection Cameras”, which will use artificial intelligence to determine if drivers have something in their hand. The image of offending motorists will then be reviewed by a person, who will determine if a $232 fine should be issued. In testing, drivers were found to be using devices in 100,000 of 8.5 million vehicles scanned, including at least one with both hands occupied as the passenger steered. New South Wales is the first jurisdiction in the world to use this technology to catch drivers who are distracted by their smartphones.
(Forget red light cameras, now you have to worry about being caught red-handed!)
(So, how long before I can buy a “Mobile Phone Detection Camera” detector?)
(And the worst thing is, if you spot one of these things, you can’t really text your buddy to let him know!)

GLUTEN. STICK TO IT LIKE GLU…TEN:
According to a new study, there are absolutely NO health benefits to eating a gluten-free diet for most people. The study, published in “Gastroenterology”, found that, despite the fact that Americans spend $2.7 billion per year on gluten-free products, eating flour which does contain gluten is safe for healthy people. Dr. David Sanders, professor of (here it comes again…) gastroenterology at the University of Sheffield and one of the authors of the study, says: “There are no negative effects of gluten if you don’t have any symptoms of celiac (an immune disease that can be determined via blood tests and a biopsy), or non-celiac gluten sensitivity.” In fact, another expert says that even though people can pay two-to-three times more for gluten-free products, they are often more processed, higher in fat and sugar and lower in fiber than their glutinous counterparts.
(I eat so much bread, that’s what my wife calls me…her “glutinous counterpart”!)
(You want to know problem with a gluten-free diet? No gluten!)
(So load up on gluten, because for most, gluten-free is a load!)

SLEEPING POSITIONS AND THEIR EFFECTS:
➠ On your back:  Only 8% sleep in this position, but more should, as it is the healthiest option for most. The head, neck and spine are in a neutral position, which helps the body rest. It also reduces body pressure and acid reflux. (But not so good for your partner, who you may find on the couch because of your honking!)
➠ On your side (legs straight-ish) Can help reduce acid reflux, back and neck pain, and snoring. It is the best option for people with sleep apnea. But it can increase wrinkles since half of your face pushes against a pillow.
➠ Fetal position:  The most common, with 41% of adults sleeping in this position.  Works well with pregnant women and snorers. It provides better circulation and prevents the uterus from pressing against the liver.
➠ On your stomach:  A good position if you are a snorer. But it can cause back and neck pain and put pressure on muscles and joints. You may wake up feeling numbness, tingling, aches and irritated nerves.
(And then there’s my wife: All of the above…every 15 minutes!)

Hand soap doesn’t sanitize your hands by killing germs. Instead, it weakens the structure the germs are holding onto, so they can be easily rinsed off.
