It’s Another Running of The Bull!
BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Jason Momoa has set the record straight amid speculation he and Kate Beckinsale are an item. Following the Oscars, the pair found themselves at the center of romance rumors when they were photographed at an after-party, with Beckinsale wearing the “Aquaman” star’s jacket. But now, he’s insisted to a reporter that there’s nothing going on there. He said that he’d given Kate his jacket out of “chivalry”, saying: “The woman was cold… [we’re] absolutely not together. She is very nice, I was being very nice, just being a gentleman.” Then he joked: “Now, I am not giving my coat to anyone.” While on the Oscars red carpet, Momoa shot down reports that he and his estranged wife Lisa Bonet had reunited.

★ Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s royal wedding was full of pomp and tradition, but the couple let loose at their private evening reception at Frogmore House — especially when Idris Elba headed to the DJ booth. Elba co-hosted a BBC rap show over the weekend, and spoke about his setlist at the May 2018 nuptials. When asked what tune it was that “got everyone going crazy” at the royal wedding reception, Elba said that guests “went off” when Whitney Houston’s ‘I Want to Dance with Somebody’ played, then added that ‘Still D.R.E.’ by Dr. Dre featuring Snoop Dogg was another big hit. Of that selection, he said: “It was Meghan’s choice”.

★ Director Hwang Dong-hyuk says he is writing a film that is “more violent” than even “Squid Game”. In a panel appearance at a trade fair, he discussed his plans for a movie tentatively titled “Killing Old People Club”, predicting it will be “another controversial project,” and joking that he may need to hide from elderly people when it’s released. In addition to Killing Old People Club, Dong-hyuk is due soon to return to South Korea, where he plans to finish writing the second season of Squid Game. The director said that he hopes new episodes will drop by late 2024.

★ “Pulp Fiction” co-stars Uma Thurman and Samuel L. Jackson are set to team up again in the dark comedy “The Kill Room”. The pair will return to their familiar territory of hijinks and hired guns, in a story about a hitman, his boss (Jackson), an art dealer (Thurman) and a money-laundering scheme that accidentally turns the assassin into an overnight sensation and forces her to play the art world against the underworld. Nicol Paone is set to direct, and production will get underway this spring in New Jersey and New York.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Cardi B – deactivated her Twitter and Instagram after getting into a heated tirade with fans who criticized her for ditching the Grammys. Cardi was nominated for one award — Best Rap Performance for ‘Up’ — but did not win. Reports say some fans felt mislead that she would be at the Las Vegas ceremony.
• Kanye West – Coachella organizers say they aren’t bitter that he backed out of his headlining Coachella gig, weeks before his scheduled April 17 and 24 appearances. They say although they do not currently have another act booked to take his spot, there’s no animosity toward West — they understand he’s been through a lot lately, and want him to take the time to work on himself. No official word on why Ye pulled out.
• Drake – was so confident in Duke defeating North Carolina in NCAA Final Four action on Saturday, that the noted b-ball fan wagered $100,000 on the Blue Devils moving on to the championship game vs. the Kansas Jayhawks. Whoops.
• Prince – Rare footage of him as a child has surfaced after workers at a Minneapolis TV station happened to spot him in footage from 1970 while working on a story about teacher strikes. WCCO brought in specialists to verify it is 11-year-old Prince in the film, where he is asked by a reporter about kids’ views on the strike. LINK: https://youtu.be/EQe0EoVoGqU
• The Beatles – Paul McCartney’s working lyric sheet for their 1969 song ‘Maxwell’s Silver Hammer’ is going up for sale – for $450,000. He wrote the first of 3 pages on a sheet of paper with letterhead for Apple Corps Limited, the corporation Beatles members founded in 1968. Fun fact: John Lennon once referred to the song as “Paul’s granny music.”
• Everclear – will celebrate its 30th anniversary with a 25+ date North American tour featuring special guests Fastball and The Nixons. Everclear’s out-of-print 1993 debut LP “World of Noise” has been remastered and will be released for the first time on streaming platforms on June 10.
• Jimmie Allen – has announced that his third album “Tulip Drive” will arrive June 24. The lead single ‘Down Home’ is out now. Tulip Drive is the name of the street Allen’s late grandmother grew up on. His 2018 debut album “Mercury Lane” was named for the street Allen grew up on.
• Luke Combs – Sunday, he teased fans on social media with the unreleased song ‘The Kind of Love We Make’. The audio file contains a short snippet of the romantic chorus. In less than 24 hours, the sneak peek garnered over 963.2K views and 182.6K likes on TikTok alone. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4ttzc8j6
• Dierks Bentley — posted photos over the weekend of his 2 youngest kids fishing with Luke Bryan. One shows Bryan helping Know hold up his bass, and another is of is of Bentley’s daughter Jordan proudly displaying her catch. Bentley wrote: “Good day of fishing with Uncle Luke.”
SHOOTING THE BULL
MORE WORDS ABOUT WORDLE:
Sick of Wordle? Or at least sick of seeing other people’s Wordle results in your social media feed? Try one of these . . .
➠ Cloudle: You’re assigned a city, and instead of entering letters, you’ve got weather icons. Sunny skies, scattered clouds, rain, snow, etc. Guess the 5-day weather forecast for that city, and you’ll be shown which icons are correct (green), which are in the solution but are on the wrong day (yellow), and which aren’t in the 5-day forecast at all (gray). You’ve got 6 chances to guess the forecast, and a new city each day. (We do that every day around here . . .)
➠ Weddle: Two highschoolers came up with this game, named after former NFLer Eric Weddle. You’ve got 8 tries to guess an NFL player’s name, team, division, position, height, age and jersey number. And an even harder version is on the way. (We’re pretty sure about half the players couldn’t get this right – about themselves!)
➠ Semantle: It’s been called what happens when Wordle’s difficulty knob is turned so forcefully to “Hard” that it snaps off in cartoonlike fashion. The answer can be any number of letters long. The only way to know if you are on the right path is when the game gives you a number representing how close the word’s meaning is to the solution (a.k.a. how close it is ‘semantically’ — hence the name). It also provides a “Getting close?” indicator of “hot” or “cold.” Creator David Turner says: It’s so hard. It’s, like, beyond anything that you think people should be able to do.” (Ah! Like a tax return!)

WORK JERKS:
➢ An employment expert says in spite of…or perhaps because of…the fact that inflation has hit its highest point in a generation, now is a great time to ask for a raise. Sarah Vermunt, founder of Careergasm, says, right now, job seekers have more power than they used to, because companies are actively looking for new employees AND trying to keep the ones they have. She suggests you do your research ahead of time, and be ready to present a case based on your performance, keep language positive, and pick the right moment to ask. Also, prepare to be patient for your raise to be approved, and consider accepting other perks instead, such as the chance to work from home permanently. (Should I be worried that my boss actually phrased it: “The chance to BE at home permanently”?)
➢ All the attention lately is directed at those who are quitting their jobs, but experts say there may be an even larger group who are still working – sort of. These are the coasters, slackers and cyberloafers. This largely overlooked cohort are the people who are not currently inclined to leave their jobs, don’t hate what they do for a living, but are not motivated or energized. A CNBC report says the pandemic has made coasting widespread. A January study found that only half of employees say they’re engaged at work. 50% said they’re “just showing up,” and 17% describe themselves as “actively disengaged.” (Hey, at least they’re showing up. That’s better than some people!)

RAMPING UP THE FUN:
A British Columbia ski resort celebrated the end of the season with its annual “Downhill Dummy” event, which saw a collection of fake skiers sent careening down the slopes, some on makeshift sleds. Apex Mountain Resort said 13 dummy skiers assembled by employees and local residents took to the slopes during the weekend, resulting in some spectacular crashes. About 500 spectators showed up to watch what the resort claims is the world’s highest-flying ‘dummy downhill’. It involves use of the ski facility’s aerial site, “so these dummies are literally 60 to 70 vertical feet in the air before they crash land,” according to Apex Mountain Resort general manager James Shalman. (And it’s all downhill from there?)
(They say this isn’t just funny, it’s hill areas!)

DID YOU KNOW?
If you want to live longer, the answer may literally be to chill out. A new study says that body temperature can have a bigger impact on your lifespan than your metabolism. Scientists in China used small fans to blow cool air over animals living in high temperatures. Although this didn’t change their metabolism, researchers say it prevented the mice and hamsters from having a high body temperature, which is known to reduce lifespan in mammals. Under these conditions, the animals did not suffer from a shortened lifespan. The study authors concluded that body temperature appears to have a much more important role in determining lifespan than metabolic rate — creating the saying “live cold, die old.” (If that’s the case, my wife’s feet are going to live forever!)

• “Teflon Day”, commemorating the accidental 1938 discovery of the coating used to create non-stick surfaces by Du Pont researcher Roy Plunkett. (How do they get it to stick to a pan?)
• “Caramel Popcorn Day”, the buttery sugar goodness of caramel combined with the light airy nature of popcorn creates an amazing flavor combination that you just can’t stop eating. To make it even better, add peanuts, almonds, cashews, or even pecan (plus lint and cat hair, because it makes your hands so sticky…)
• “Plan Your Epitaph Day”, one of 2 days annually dedicated to the proposition that a forgettable gravestone is a fate worse than death. So, what would you like yours to say?
