You’re Fulla Sheet!
BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Kim Kardashian is officially a billionaire, according to Forbes. The outlet estimated that the reality TV queen and social media mogul-turned businesswoman is now worth $1 billion, up from her former net worth estimate of $780 million in October. She made the jump to billionaire mainly thanks to two of her latest business ventures: KKW Beauty and Skims. Forbes estimates Kardashian’s stake in KKW Beauty to be worth about $500 million, and Skims at about $225 million. Besides her growing businesses, Kardashian also pulls in cash from her reality TV show “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” — estimated to be at least $10 million pretax every year since 2012. (You think THAT’S a lot? Just wait until her divorce settlement!)

★ HBO is celebrating the 10th anniversary of “Game of Thrones” with a month-long event called “The Iron Anniversary.” The network announced the event on Monday, promising “a curated spotlight page on HBO Max, a cause-driven 73-hour ‘MaraThrone,’ special-edition products, and more.” Additional events will follow throughout the month, including fan participation for three couples who were married in Game of Thrones-style ceremonies.

★ Former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein is seeking a new trial, arguing that a New York judge denied him an impartial jury when he was convicted last year of sexual assault and rape. His court filing says he was denied a presumption of innocence when Justice James Burke allowed the jury to hear testimony from women who alleged Weinstein assaulted them even though their allegations did not result in a criminal charge. Weinstein was sentenced in March 2020 to 23 years in prison. He has denied any nonconsensual sexual encounters.

★ Is “Schitt’s Creek” headed for the big screen? There’s been talk about the cast reuniting for a potential feature film, however, it’s unclear if this will come to fruition. Sarah Levy, who played the café owner, ‘Twyla’, says she would absolutely be on board for something like this. Quote: “I keep hearing about a movie. This remains to be seen, but I’m here for it if that’s the case.” She starred in the series alongside her brother Daniel Levy and father Eugene Levy.

SHOOTING THE BULL
BABY TALK:
➢ According to a study, babies love listening to “baby talk,” especially if it’s in English. UCLA researchers say the sing-song sounds of baby talk can help a child learn any language and is more effective than regular speech in terms of holding an infant’s attention. And for bilingual parents who are worried their child may be confused if they grow up juggling two languages, don’t be. The study authors found that infants can develop their language skills faster if their parents use what they call “child-directed speech.” The study found baby talk is also more effective at language teaching than regular speech. (It works on the dog, too!)
➢ A new study has found that babies begin understanding what’s going on earlier than most people think. Researchers from the University of Edinburgh say infants are capable of recognizing word combinations and phrases long before they ever utter their first word. They found that 11 to 12-month-old infants, who are on the verge of speaking, are already processing and understanding various “multi-word phrases” such as “clap your hands.” It’s the first time researchers have demonstrated that young infants are capable of understanding these statements before they begin speaking themselves. And this work disputes the long-held belief that babies learn language by first understanding individual words and moving on to sentences. The new study suggests babies learn words and phrases simultaneously. (When can we expect all those Facebook “medical experts” to learn English words and phrases?)

DOG AND PONY SHOT:
Russia has registered the “world’s first” COVID-19 vaccine for animals. Named Carnivac-Kov, the shot was developed by the Federal Center for Animal Health. According to an announcement, the vaccine is now ready for mass production, and is suitable for use on dogs, cats, ferrets, minks, foxes and other animals. Carnivac-Kov will be commercially available for pet owners, but the question remains: Do pet owners need to vaccinate their animals? And the short answer is “probably not”. While a number of different animals have been infected with COVID-19 around the world, including at least 115 cats, 81 dogs, 27 captive big cats, and at least 3 captive gorillas, there are relatively few reports of pets falling seriously ill with the infection. And it’s believed that dogs and cats do not play a significant role in transmitting the virus to humans.
(So, it’s OK if my dog just keeps on wearing his mask?)
(That’s great. I can’t get a shot for my 80-year-old mother, but in Russia, they can vaccinate a stray dog for 7 bucks…)
(Well, it IS Russia, where they “shoot first, ask questions later”!)

BEER DIET FOLLOWUP:
A Cincinnati man has lost 40 pounds (18kg) by giving up food for Lent and drinking beer instead. Del Hall started his mission back on Pancake Tuesday (Feb. 16), and since then has existed on just beer, tea, coffee and water. At this point, it is important to point out that this is NOT a healthy way to lose weight, but Del has done it a few times before, and always for a good cause. This year he decided to raise money for bar and restaurant workers who have been hit during the pandemic, and so far, he has raised more than $12,000. Hall participated in his “Beer diet” for 46 days, ending on Good Friday. During his ordeal, he “enjoyed” 3-5 beers per day, in addition to his other beverage choices. While it’s not a normal way lose weight, he says he has gone down 3 pant sizes, from an XXXL to an XL. And as Lent came to a close, how did Hall break his fast? He said that he planned to make his special home-made “killer” guacamole, and “have a margarita.”
(Ohio man forgoes food for 46-day beer diet? “Florida Man”, you have competition!)

DID YOU KNOW?
A tire startup has teamed up with NASA to develop the world’s first space-age alloy bicycle tires that never go flat, and could last a lifetime. The SMART Tire Company has announced their innovative airless bicycle tire originally developed by NASA for Mars Rover missions. The revolutionary tire, named “METL,” is made from smart memory metal that rearranges its molecular structure when bent, but instantly goes back to its original shape. It has the flexibility of rubber but is as strong as titanium, which means that you probably won’t have to change another bicycle tire in your lifetime. (Good! Because I still haven’t figured out how to do that…)
